Political posts here? Well I am glad this country had the guts to elect a black President, a woman too is long overdue. It is his policies I disagree with.
Well, then they could have fired all those American workers in Suffern and hired more intelligent Swiss workers instead. Of course, the rate of pay per hour is not Bangalore wage rate. Stupid comparison.
Anybody remember OS/2 WARP??? I have a copy and IBM invested so much money into this dog that they could not kill it easily. Same with Windows 8, which MSFT is promoting at the expense of a damn good product, Windows 7, which American firms are migrating to now that XP is set to die. And I note that malware support for XP is being extended to 2015. Hmmm, maybe to avoid lawsuits. All those POS systems are mostly XP based and usually ignored by IT management. But 7 is a great operating system and Microsoft seems dead set to kill it off entirely.
So, how goes the decision to oursource IT to this snake oil sales firm???? Betcha productivity has really increased with their legendary protocols and methods to slow things down.
eh, don't think so this Friday. You were right a bunch of other Fridays, but not this one. Try, oh, Shrove Thursday for a change. Or a Celtic calendar may be more interesting.
I knew that shills hate Cringley, so I decided to spare some pain here. I am offended by the initial comment on this thread that companies HAVE to find qualified IT workers in India, or H1-B crowds, because Americans are just too damn stupid. Pardon? Tell me what innovative products have come OUT of India, and not those invented or created HERE and then sent to India. Doesn't IBM hold a rather large patent inventory out of the Thomas J. Watson Research Center??? Hmmm, must have moved that out of Yorktown Heights to Bangalore, right??? I despise that American firms are firing legions of QUALIFIED IT workers just because the damn salary in Bangalore, below minimum wage here BTW, is ecomonically great for shareholder value. Ever hear of W. Edwards Deming??? One of his famous 14 points was for firms to cease aiming for shareholder value at the expense of everything else. So you can see I am not a drone unit dummy.
Yes, it was Cringely, a name IBMers and shills hate. But, is the article itself wrong???? Or is ServiceMaster still a client of IBM????
Really? IT workers lacking in America. Biased opinion, I guess you think that Bangalore is the home of the only smart IT workers, at $4 an hour, in the world. Contrary. IBM lost ServiceMaster earlier a few years ago, when the firm fired IBM and insourced staff to replace the, presume, Bangalore crowd from Big Blue. Read this about their job fair in Memphis.
When ServiceMaster announced its decision to cancel its contract with IBM and to in-source a new IT team, the company had to find 200 solid IT people immediately. Memphis is a small community and there can’t be that many skilled IT workers there, right? ServiceMaster held a job fair one Saturday and over 1000 people attended. They talked to them all, invited the best back for second interviews, and two weeks later ServiceMaster had a new IT department. The company is reportedly happy with the new department whose workers are probably more skilled and more experienced than the IBMers they are replacing.
IBM had over 400,000 employees back in 1992, and Microsoft Windows 3.1 was on the release, the world was FAR different than today. Bangalore did not exist as a tech support niravana and outsourcing was far from as prevalent as it is today. Poor comparison.
We are moving to Georgia and in throwing out a ton of books, I found my old 1990 vintage MARKETING EDUCATION book from IBM. How many old IBMers remember the name Gene Rinaldo, a young IBM sales rep, full of promise, being mentored by Joe Armstrong of ARMSTRONG SPORTING GOODS. A different day and time for IBM wasn't it. BTW, the poster on the former chairman, it was JOHN AKERS moron.
As in House of Cards 2013. She is a woman - check. She is a person of color - check. And she is friends with powerful people in Washington. Check check check.
Which of course explains the cut of 4,000 jobs and the closing of the Suffern NY facility, doesn't it????
Like Aon, this firm is firing thousands of overpaid, of course, deadwood, of course, workers and sending those jobs to the paradise of low cost labor, INDIA. WHEN WILL MANAGEMENT LEARN!!!! Good is never cheap.
Yet another firm that believes you can fire overpaid domestic workers and hire cheap Indian labor at a fraction of salary cost. If this in IT, service will rocket downward fast. Another snake oil sale.
Actual biased POS posting, this scam artist is posting hundreds of these on alphabetic series of message boards in sequence. Has to be a mass mailing software running this #$%$. And this is #$%$.
Damn tab key. Deliver a good service through trained professionals NOT stationed in India, performing poor work at poor pay. Secondly, do the job RIGHT and do not just meet customer expectations as an excuse. That is why AstraZeneca, Texas, Australia, Service Master, Hilton Hotels among others are all gone. All that needed revenue. Stop outsourcing American jobs. Yes it costs more for salary but it costs far more to lose an account through shoddy work performed by low paid drone units in Bangalore. Gee, this whole thing sounds like this doesn't it......
