(Reuters) - South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has raised its production target for the new flagship Galaxy smartphones following positive market reception, the Electronic Times newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The South Korean paper, citing an unnamed source, said Samsung increased its total production target for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge devices to 8 million units for April from 7 million previously. The company's production target for March remained unchanged at 5 million units, according to the paper.
Himax Technologies, Inc. (ADR) (NASDAQ:HIMX) was continuing to move lower on Monday after reports Apple is looking to diversify its LCD driver IC suppliers and move away from its dependence on Synaptics. Novatek Microelectronics, Himax Technologies and Parade Technologies are all vying for orders from Apple, according to reports. Rumors circulated previously that Apple approached other driver IC suppliers after RSA was acquired by Synaptics. Synaptics, in order to maintain orders from Apple following its RSA acquisition, has reportedly stepped up efforts to transition to 55nm process technology from 80nm.
