Another way to put this tj, is a request, I request that YOU DO THE MATH for me, and show me the money. Seriously, show me the math and how the buybacks have helped put money in my pocket. I don't mean "theoretical value" which means nothing if nobody is going to pay what we think a stock is worth, I mean REAL VALUE that puts real money in my pocket. Where's the money? We have had share buybacks, is my stock worth more? My math says that going from $17 to $12 isn't a good thing. This is part of my point I'm trying to make.

tj, due to the fact that I stayed in Smith and Wesson when I could have sold at $17.28 or the $17's, you bet, I am NOT calling myself an investor, I F'd up big time but I took my chances. If you too followed this stock down from $17 I certainly hope you are not calling yourself an investor.

Also, I do understand what a share buyback is and how it works, I just don't see how it is benefiting us, the investors, there is no more money in my pocket, my stock is now worth tens of thousands of dollars less, so where's the beef? That's my point.

Superbowl, thank you for taking the time to explain what you explained. I understand that about the pizza pie, but what I don't understand is how this matters to us. So now my slice of pie that was worth $1 is now worth $2 because there are now half as many shares, but what does this have to do with me when the shares are in the $12 range and if the shares are still in the $12 range because investors believe this stock is broken, and Smith just bought back more shares, how does any of this help me when my "one share" is still only worth $12 regardless of a buyback?

See what I mean? I do understand the text book definition, the pizza pie analogy, but in the end, in the final analysis, I don't see any benefit, my shares are now worth a hell of a lot LESS than a month ago, and this stock is now kind of a pariah.

My slice may be worth more now that there are fewer shares, but what does that have to do with anything if nobody is gonna pay more than $12.91 for those shares?

That's what I mean. I don't see the material benefit, in my pocket, of a share buyback in this case, so I wonder what all the hullabaloo is about with share buybacks.

  • I posted a message within the last month or two but I could not find it to bump it so I'll start this new one. I read all the explanations about how it reduces the number of shares, it makes the EPS "look better", but I still don't see how it helps US, WE THE INVESTORS. Does it put money in our pockets? From what I understood, NO.

Does it reduce the shares? Yes. Does this mean fewer shares, sure, but how does this HELP US? So what if there are 40 million shares instead of 55 million shares. How does this materially affect the investor?

What is the concrete way this helps us? That never really was explained despite all the words and fancy talk. In other words, what do share buybacks have to do with the price of provalone in China? HOW do I see the benefit, to me, the investor?

  • First let me say I know the definition of stock buy backs and I know of the reasons for them but I want to read YOUR PERSPECTIVES and your knowledge of reasons for stock buy backs. Thanks

Libertee, I despise hillary clinton, she's a wretch, anyone can see for themselves how much of a wretch she is by going to youtube and typing: "hillary clinton I'm the secretary of state" in the search bar.

Now that you understand I have no positive regard for that wretch let me say this, her statement of "what difference does it make" was not a statement that the loss of their lives made no difference. It was not.

I've watched that Benghazi hearing video and it was clear that she was not saying their lives did not matter, she was saying that whether it was due to a protest or whether it was due to some guys out who just wanted to kill Americans, but she was not saying that the lives of those Americans do not matter.

I believe we will look foolish if we try and twist the obvious truth of what she was talking about when it is plain to see and hear in that video.

Whether she is guilty of deeper negligence of her duties that lead to their deaths is another matter, and if she is guilty of an error or negligence that lead to their deaths, she must fry.

Do I like her? Heck no. Do I believe she should be president? FKCU NO! But I wanted to keep the record straight on that one detail. She's got enough going against her that will hopefully sink her disgusting self.

Again on youtube, search "hillary clinton taking sniper fire". She lied, loud and clear, it's documented, like her husband, she's a blatant liar.

Next, she supported the arrest of the man who made the video that angered terrorists in Libya. In other words, she blames the man and the video for their murderous character. That's like blaming a woman who was raped, saying it was her fault for dressing sexy. NO, it was the criminal's fault for being an animal. Same with Benghazi, it was the terrorist's fault for being murderous animals, not the video maker's fault..

hillary is trash, but she did not say the lives of those dead Americans make no difference, saying otherwise makes us look bad.

  • Five or so years ago when I was first invested in S&W I had no problem finding the charts for the NICS background check numbers but now I cannot find them.

I checked the FBI website, I see the part that has NICS stats, but it does not bring me to the charts that have the current year and prior years broken down into the monthly numbers and state by state. I'm not so concerned as the state by state numbers, just the total NICS checks for the USA each month in 2014, and I'd like to compare it to prior years going back a few years, 2013 on back.

Anybody wanna clue me in on how to find these numbers, I checked and checked again when looking at the FBI site but I must be missing something. Thanks
