PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., Feb. 17, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:INO) announced today that preclinical testing of its synthetic vaccine for the Zika virus induced robust and durable immune responses, demonstrating the potential for a SynCon® vaccine to prevent and treat infections from this harmful pathogen. Health authorities have observed neurological and autoimmune complications potentially associated with Zika virus, including microcephaly in newborns and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Inovio is developing its Zika vaccine with GeneOne Life Sciences (KSE:011000) and academic collaborators.

Zika virus belongs to the flavivirus family, which includes dengue and West Nile virus (WNV). Inovio previously published robust immunogenicity and challenge protection data for its SynCon dengue and WNV vaccine candidates. Inovio’s Zika program builds on its extensive previous preclinical development experience with flavivirus-related vaccines.

This will likely mean greater focus on preventing Dengue...

Florida-based researchers said yesterday they have uncovered early lab evidence that seems to affirm a suspicion some experts have had about Zika—that earlier dengue illness might boost the severity of Zika virus infection.

Scientists have known about Zika virus since its discovery in the 1940s, but it didn't appear on anyone's radar as a serious disease threat until it became associated with serious complications such as Guillain-Barre syndrome and birth defects such as microcephaly, in which babies are born with small heads and malformed brains.

Both viruses are members of the flavivirus family, and both are carried by Aedes mosquitoes. Researchers have already seen a similar pattern, called antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE), in patients sequentially infected with different dengue virus strains. And ADE has been seen with Zika virus as the result of antibodies from other flaviviruses.

Big money is already buying, thats why almost every day at the open the close and sometimes during the day there are large block trades going through - 10-100k. Watch the trading patterns, its been going on for 3 weeks. Funds and insiders are buying, products about to earn significant revenues and also a more speculative play on Zika virus. In the short to medium term INO is only going up.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

Two orders for $700k just went through and popped the price $.20c. This has been going on for the past 10 days... huge orders usually at the open and close. This stock is clearly under accumulation by big plays who are buying in chunks of 10-70k share bundles. Nowhere but up for INO its just a case of how fast...

    Sentiment: Strong Buy
