    yes, it is surprising.

Perhaps it is because they only missed sales by a little, and, if there was strength in the inventory, they would have beaten everything nicely.

I don't know if there was a conference call - I would be interested in a transcript if one was issued.

If they sold so much in the prior quarter, the prior quarter wouldn't have been so bad.

We will see within the next 17 hours or so.

It seems that the sale will close this week. And with that, this board.

Good bye to all those who have contributed to this board. Maybe we will meet again somewhere else.

And thanks to the Seltzers, Peterson, and all those whose efforts we appreciate at hitk.

I usually am too optimistic. But $100 million in sales from a product that I don't think was factored in is quite a nice plus.

And I remember reading that the Sports Illustrated Barbie was flying off the shelves.

A late Easter will hurt. But don't count Mattel out.

But I am usually too optimistic.

We will find out by the end of the week.

  • robinfamily1818 by robinfamily1818 Apr 14, 2014 9:57 AM Flag

I think we might see a nice surprise on the earnings that will be coming out soon.

Last year Mattel had about 995 million in sales, and the estimates are for 955 this year. Yes, the last quarter had bad numbers for barbie, but mattel had a little bump on barbie with the sports illustrated bathing suit special. Further, I read that Disney's Frozen had $100 million in sales for Frozen - Mattel does these dolls.

On the negative side, we had an ealier Easter last year (March 31st), so this quarter will miss out on any sales for Easter presents. And the harsh winter didn't help on sales. But I believe the integration of Thomas products are probably more along now.

If we could see a bump over $1 billion, we would have put aside the disappointing last quarter.

  • robinfamily1818 by robinfamily1818 Apr 3, 2014 7:03 AM Flag

I expect that we will get an announcement any day that the SEC has approved the sale, and then this board will be closed.

So good bye to all those who have profited. It could have been better, but you can't complain when you make a profit.

One caution and question - AKRX seems to have a delay in its audited financial statements, and took a little hit. I would usually be worried, but hitk hasn't really suffered. Any thoughts.

And any thoughts on AKRX's future or any other generic stocks? I would like to invest in another generic.

But, as this is probably my last post - good luck to all and thanks to the Seltzers, and other (including Peters who should have held onto more of his options) for their good work.

The real trick is that it is the largest grossing animated movie is because of the overseas market. That is the reason for the growth in the price.

you should be happy. it has been steadily climbing.

maybe because some saw its dividend (then a little over 4%, now a little under 4%) as a nice return.

maybe their purchase of the lego competitor was saw as a nice purchase.

I personally think that these are the immediate cause, but I think we will see nice earnings - barbie sales should be up (the sports illustrated spotlight cause a small run), and things are never as bad as they seemed per the last quarter.

maybe we can pull over 42 and hit the higher 40'

Although I think this is a wonderful stock, and we haven't seen the end to this nice price rise, I think that the analysts will be wary of increasing their targets right now. A good year is on tap, but even a good year will have a hard time going over earnings of $4.00, and that at a pe ratio of 20 puts it at 80. If it hits $4.50 (which is possible although very difficult) that would put you at 90.

The real problem is that the studio will have difficult comparisons this year, with no Avengers/Iron Man, and no Pixar. So, although I think the high 80's is possible, it will have a very hard time of breaking 90 and staying over that number.

    But I have been so wrong since 40, 50, 60, 70, and even 80.

And I will say this - I would not sell.

We actually have some high expectations for tomorrow.

But if we meet them, it could do nicely. Having less shares around helps put some pressure on it.

I think we've turned a little corner, now that the buyback is over. Less shares mean that, if there is more demand, there will be less stock to satisfy it, pushing prices. Further, they seem to have some momentum on turning things around. They seem to be doing a lot of little things right, which may bode well.

I think the low teens may be in our future.

It would have been in Disney's interest to buy back stock when it was in the 30's or 40's or 50's.

That being said, Disney has consistently bought back its stock, and it will continue to do so.

That said, Frozen and Thor will bolster sales and profits. Thor could have been a little better. Don't get me wrong - $200 million is nothing to sneeze at. But the original did about $180 million the first go round, and I think Disney was hoping for a little more (maybe 250?) I will admit that the overseas sales have been good, but I think they were hoping for just a little more.

Frozen has been marvelous. It keeps on packing them in. $400 million is not out of the question. And I would even suggest that worldwide total may help it hit $ 1 billion (although this is a stretch). But a fair amount of this may be in the New Year, so that the december 31 quarter may not be as extreme as hoped.

Savings Mr. Banks got off to a slow start, but is still tracking well.

What does this all mean - I believe that the last quarter, although nice, may not be as excessive on movie sales as you suggest. That may actually still bode well for the quarter that we are in, as Frozen and Mr. Banks is certainly doing more now than expected.

But this year will also be missing a pixar movie. And there is no Avengers III this year.

But next year, watch out - Avengers 3, pixar, and even Star Wars. Disney will be over 100 by 2016,

    No this isn't a promo.

It is stupid - research on a company that has accepted a buyout offer.
