you suck at math, don't you.
Note: not a question, medievaleducation
Big Thumb Up for you. Knowing that is why I said I'd probably short MKL @ $589. That is not the only reason the divergence between the two has its limits. ALas, MKL didn't get going in time and I had to sell 20% of my BRK @ $125.10. Divergence had to snap back.
1. BRK just pulls MKL up, partly due to the holding you mentioned
2. You MKL Mental Midgets got rewarded for the $6 BB of bonds Gayner (aka The $6BB Bond Man) bought for you. Rates fell the last 2 days.
Hilarious thing is how even these stocks have been taken over by HFTers.
SHould we call Gayner the "$6 BB Bond Man"?
How are the $6 BB of Alterra bonds working out for you guys?
What was Gayner's 2013 portfolio ROI again?
LMAO@ MKL Mental Midgets
Give me $550 & I'll put on my MKL Mental Midget badge again.
I LOVE paying huge capgains tax on my HUGE capgains. I do. Uncle Sam & I have a gentlemen's agreement. Uncle keeps AMerica a safe, vibrant place to live. I, as a hard-working American, make LOTS of money EVERY year. EVERY year. Then UNcle gets his share. Works for me.
btw, my NET returns are as good as your GROSS returns and you'll pay taxes someday. Death & Taxes, dude. Death & Taxes.
Yes, my NET returns are as good as your GROSS returns.
lousy yhoo msg board cut off half my msg. I'll have to write it again later to show you MKL Mental Midgets how far you're lagging behind my switch into BRKb on Feb 13 & Feb 18
More MKL Mental Midgetry.
I made my MKL my largest holding at avg price $536 a week before they announced earnings.
I sold half of my MKL at $563.60 on Feb 13 for a 5% gain in about 1 week.
On Feb 13, I switched into BRKb at $114.40.
I sold the other half of my MKL at $572.44 on Feb 18 for a 7% gain in
It is funny how this guy is always wrong and yet always pretending otherwise. Not funny "Ha Ha".
I guess he posts so much so he can keep reversing opinions and always point to something that wasn't totally wrong.
" I say it will continue to lag unless buffett changes his thinking."
quote GaynEr's 2013 portfolio performance.
They must be ashamed. It was LOUSY.
The original Dumbigo.
lafeebleminded has been pumping AMSC since $40. When I told lafeetstink that I sold my AMSC at $39, lafeverish told me "AMSC will soon be worth $50 and $60 not long after that."
quote GaynEr's 2013 portfolio performance.
or are they just ashamed.
And MKL's under-performance continues. Yawn. I came really close to going short again. WHen it hit $582.9, I had a short in at $583. Next time.
I also have a GTC buy in lower, a lot lower.
Which will hit first? Tick tick tick
more blithe blather by MKL mental midgets. Over the last 2 yrs, MKL has barely kept up with the SP500, and trails the SP500 in total return since MKL pays no dividend.
BUt, nice try. Dumb, but nice. Blithe too.
It is highly illustrative that you would say incorrect things so blithely.
"Gayner mentioned the overall portfolio return himself in the cc"
Incorrect, but you would think he should, shouldn't he.
" and I believe it is in the press release."
Incorrect, but you would think it should be, shouldn't it.
I'm pretty darned sure you are wrong.
You're not a moron, since you actually tried to answer instead of just parroting more dogma, but you're wrong. GaynEr didn't state the PORTFOLIO return. He stated the EQUITY portfolio return. He also gave you enough info to calculate the OVERALL PORTFOLIO return. But, none of you bother to do it. You're too busy parroting.
I've calculated it, though with such a large influx of assets mid-yr, the calculation depends on how he links the "pre-Alterra" & "post-Alterra" periods.
Bottom line: It is poor & the reason it is poor is that he did a poor job of asset allocation. Most of you seem ignorant of the fact that ASSET ALLOCATION is Job 1 for a portfolio mgr. GayEr got asset allocation, seemingly on purpose.
Not just stocks.
another obtuse moron. MKL shareholder base must be mainly obtuse morons.
Firstly, it is GaynEr. GaynEr. Idiot
Second, I made no decision based on the call. I have traded MKL for the last yr or so. I first bought Dec2012 when it got smashed. Since then, I've been long it multiple times & short it twice. I was recently short a lot above $573. I covered $550. THen I bought again avg price $536. When I bought I had every intention of selling in $560s - $570s unless it was a great Q3. It wasn't, so sell I do, as I planned.
$540 or so & I'm back in.
"Gaynor ... very good investor"
Not so much. He is a good stock-picker. His asset allocation is pretty bad.
"Alterra ... seems you are the only one who doesn't understand the 118% ratio."
I understand it quite well, but here is what went right over your head (or thru, since it is just air), I havent focused on the 118%. I know the real #. I have focused on that. The real # was lousy also. You don't know the real # because you are a moronic sheep. You just listen to the "kitchen-sink" #, hear someone say "well, that's a kitchen-sink #, dont worry", and then you stop thinking. You dont calculate the real #, never mind understand it.
"ML has had an underperform on this stock for a LONG time "
Yes, and if you take ML at his word, it is for a very consistent reason: the ROE is weak & doesnt deserve the P/BV premium. ML has been very consistent. I've read all his reports. I dont totally agree with him, but he is consistent. When I was buying MKL below $520 last Aug/Sept, I was laughing at how he hadn't updated his thinking. I wrote a long piece on it to get my thinking straight and almost published it on Seeking Alpha. Instead, I just bought more MKL. It was my largest holdng when it went above $520 in Oct.
sold my other half a hair under $573. GL guys. I'll buy back lower.
ps: keep Gayner off the C Call & I'll never get another chance to buy.
chris, I don't know who you are or what you're after. In the last week I bought
always be price-sensitive
