What an idiot - registered in Bermuda only affects taxes - if sanctions increase to levels that prevent NADL to do business with Russia / Rosneft its game over.

Putin squeezing Obama to up the sanctions game a lot with Putin's last move - I would say NADL may be heading for a lot of trouble with the Rosneft deal.

Well since you brought up Drybulk - Starbulk bought up EXM to be the largest fleet even though EXM is mostly old vessels - see the parallel and Dollar General or Dollar Tree is buying Family Dollar and you will see a lot of these M&A deals as we enter the last quarter of the year. Also much talk of Knightsbridge and Golden Ocean merging to have the power in a weak rate environment.

I think Trohm was brought in fulltime to get some M&A action going - SDRL starts and others will be forced to follow - consolidation of the players will force the Petrobas, Exxons, Total, COP, etc. to pay the higher rates. SDRL might pursue NE or DO which have both been beaten down and have adopted the mental change of new deep offshore rigs.

With 18 more rigs on order, we all knew they were not going to order any additional rigs - this quantity ordered means JF thinks the market is still really good, but playing it coy downplaying it encourage the other rig companies not to order more so that when his 18 rigs arrive they will be in a good rate environment. JF has Trohm (sp.) working fulltime now for SDRL and GLNG so I think both are in good hands.

I agree they earned $1.29 per share while the estimate I have read is $.75 so they actually beat by $.54 so I would say its great. Revenue was only a slight miss and nothing to be concerned about - probably about 1% less than estimated. Also, at $1.29 per share earnings the dividend is extremely well covered and SDRL indicated it will probably hold at its current level for the next 2 years and given its an 11% yield whats not to like. Shorts will try to knock it down today which means its a great time to add more shares.

what the heck is the "liber rate"?

    by vremsen Aug 26, 2014 2:54 PM
    rogers2308 rogers2308 Aug 26, 2014 2:56 PM Flag

Its LIBOR rate - the London interbank rate, which many use as an interest basis to which they add on their own interest adjustment factor.

What is dumb about it ? If they issue more shares as they have twice recently and get more money from doing so, as they did it creates the availability of funds to pay an increased dividend amount. There is nothing to refute what I have just stated as they are facts.

I agree - press release says they lost 24 million dollars in the quarter and that the market is challenging - yet its up $2.50 a share - this stock defies any any any logic - I just keep looking at it because if it was a shipping company like DRYS it would be on life support yet like Amazon it seems profit is meaningless and just goes higher - I wonder sometimes if I should invest in stocks because I really do not understand how stocks just defy logic.

Seems like a ponzi scheme as they keep issuing more shares to pay a high yield monthly dividend - I know Staggman liked it before, but seems scary to me - its down a lot today is it a buy ?

  • rogers2308 rogers2308 Aug 25, 2014 1:49 PM Flag

Tell me the fundamentals that make it a $17 stock ? You cant because there aren't any.The first tier comment made me laugh - so they came from good yards they are now old energy inefficient ships in a low rate environment which is why EXM and several others have went bankrupt. See you soon in single digit price.

Why bother - if you want to not abide by the sanctions - if you think no one is watching - very risky - look at B of A's 17 billion dollar fine - you always can flaunt the rules - just do not cry when caught.

Yes, they can pay them - they can take out loans and even increase them, but its not wise. Depreciation is a non-cash expense, so yes cash wise it can temporarily fund a dividend, however, its still an expense and affects the net earnings per share on a GAAP basis and when that asset needs replaced if there are no earnings you are in big trouble. I am an auditor who has audited multi billion dollar Utility and Railroads, so I do know what your saying, but its not "free money."

too funny - its "unaudited quarterly statement" has almost 18 million dollars of " gross profit" on approx 23 million dollars of sales yet net income is a loss of 2 million dollars - do these numbers seem in the least bit plausible - I think this could go up short term - but it will come crashing down at some time.

I believe I read in the SDRL 1st Q report saying that SDRL breakeven was $330,000 per day, so even at $500,000 per day is still really good. Its like a baseball player hitting 330 going to 280, all the writers say he's in bad shape, well I will take that bad shape.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • Based on their info. on the 1st trading day - 8/4/14/ - for every 90 shares of NE that you owned dropped a combined $500.00 based on the new shares value ( 90 NE + 30 PGN ) this decision by NE was truly a disaster for shareholders. On the bright side if you liked the former Noble company buying shares in both companies at these discounted prices will lower your cost average and assuming they both do well it could turn out to be alright. P.S. I own Seadrill shares also and in their 1st Q report they have comparative info. involving NE, ESV, RIG, DO, etc. which I found interesting and looked like NE was pretty good and read a blog concerning PGN which suggested they could afford a dividend of around 9%. I plan on buying both as I feel are undervalued now.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy
