Good call. I spent some more time with it and also got to 48M prime members.

From 10k: Unearned Revenue- Unearned revenue is recorded when payments are received in advance of performing our service obligations and is recognized over the service period. Unearned revenue primarily relates to Amazon Prime memberships and AWS. .

With AWS rapidly growing i have no clue how much would be contributed to each....

    Thanks again for the reply.

  • Looking at the current liability "Unearned Revenue" seems the number of paid prime members stands around 25 million as of Q3. I expected it to be up closer to 40 - 50 million. Am I missing something?

    My math:
Unearned Revenue: $1.8B - This accounts for 9 months of the $100 fee (as 3 months are "earned" each qtr).
    $1.8B / 3 = $0.6B x 4 = $2.4B / $100 prime fee = ~25 million prime members

    Q3 Con Call

I did listen to it. Management still seemed confident on the future growth of the company, which I find very important. Seems they will be marketing the "right size, right price" items more in the coming months to try to find that balance of premier vs budget menu items.

Previous estimates of EBITDA for FY14 ($390M - $400M) are now estimated at $390M (no talk of upper guidance). However, 34 cents - 36 cents was still mentioned for EPS guidance. Street says 10cents in Q4, which would put us at 34 cents for the year. Therefore, I see a strong chance we get 10 cents for Q4, possibly 11 cents.

Investor day in February will be a big day as they will give guidance for the year and preliminary numbers for Q4. Just my 2 cents

Additionally, for this qtr, they guided for lower end of that annual SSS % increase since this qtr is compared against the pretzel burger introduction from last year. I think this stock really pops when they guide for next year.

    Why does Amazon deserve a P/E of 800+ ?

Amazon is currently being priced based on its potential. Whether that's right or wrong will play out eventually.
The bulls believe that they can make money when they want to. They therefore think it should be priced on sales, cash flow, etc. Bulls, however, say they are making as much as they can and even when trying to make money, they can only get by with that low net margin (below 0.5%). They therefore believe they should be priced on earnings and be priced at $10, or however low they believe. I know you are being facetious, however, I do not think they need drone delivery to justify their price. As they continue to grow revenues and scale back some mgmt. discretion expense, they can grow that bottom line year after year. This is a roth ira stock for me, looking real long term. That's my 2 cents
