This should go into the scaffold plus stem cells sooner rather than later. When that happens no one will want the scaffold alone because the scaffold plus cells will have virtually everyone walking again, as was the case with the monkeys. It would be a crime if this took ten years to happen.
In my opinion soon, while the scaffold-only is ongoing, possibly by year-end or early 2016. Moreover, based on the monkey trials, I believe both acute and chronic SCI cases will eventually be treated with both scaffold and stem cells or scaffold and other medications.
I don't believe it is a coincidence that the second patient was signed up a day after NVIV reported on the improvement of the first. I think the number 3 to 5 patients will be found even more quickly because the potential for significant improvement is now public.
