    Tuesday buying opportunity because of upcoming dip, due to:"CORRECTION: Himax Technologies (HIMX) Says No Samsung Agreement";

    OT: 4K expansion good for industry-related OSAT movers, esp. underpriced Imos,
    Cowen and Co. Conf. this week in NYC. Himax and MU are two of their steadiest customers, and 2nd half of year should have multiple bases for renewed climb, including re-structuring, huge cash reserve and Baupost continues to hold major position. Do Due Dil., as always.

    Many ways to make a buck while the fundamentals cry for FV but the pace of re-structuring and the sub-par 2nd qrtr guidance allows another whack.
    Fwiw a little story, all factual: I kept to the trade mode yesterday, and sold some Imos @ $23.35, and $23.49. This just to keep things interesting. I virtually always do limit orders, and yesterday was no exception, but as always it's a fraction of the major holdings on Chippy. Well, we have a few brokerages, and Capitol One/Sharebuilders has ck-off block that allows ALL the stock to be sold; I also mostly do "all or none" with the limit orders. End of story, at the "review" stage, I deleted the ck inserted (I believe by the system, not me) from the ALL box, re-inserted it in the "all or none" box selection, which curiously was there before, and all sold for a little cash in the kitty.

    So today, bought back 2/3s of yesterdays sales @ $22.20 this a,m.
    Now yesterday had some nice volume, and there was probably no way ( and I am not Buffet or Ellison by a long shot, griiiiiiin) all my holdings at Sharebuilders could have been taken out, but one never knows.

    But today with a half million shares traded I would have been happy buying 2/3s of them back @ $22.20 for a killing of the century, even with today's paltry close at $22.76.

    Anyway, we all heard the positive points from SK, and while this week may be tough, I am interested in seeing
    how their Cowen-sponsored get together in NYC in a few weeks is received. Just would love to see LCD high margin business really take off in Asia and here. Micron may be the proxy to watch in the next quarters.

    buy,
    Price was really cheap 5minutes ago; see how it closes;
    looks like those June 19 $30 CC s I sold will expire worthless to my buyers once again.
    I think based on 8150 that Imos it's worth around $25.

    CC Quotes as follows:
    "The key for ChipMOS is that we remain one of the two largest OSAT companies serving the LCD driver demand. We have proper capacity and can [indiscernible] down, if the demand is lower in Q2. But we would be expecting to see things start to pick up exiting Q2 into Q3."
    " Tim, this is S.J. let me answer your question. Currently we see the positive movement for inventory correcting. And we also see that getting more and more stronger in the TV side."
    "We don’t rule out any probability that the business coming in stronger in June. And then we will have a better results in our guidance."

    So many here who for years have heard CCs in past with their typical dour, negative, cautious responses
    should not play down what SJ suggests for JUNE, ( still 2nd Qrtr), as a prequel to 3rd Qrtr to 4th qtr., 2015.

    Chinese masterminds are loosening purse strings, markets should be favorable there, and everyone here knows LCD is where the margins are so, except for the conversion delay, this stock price would gain. Traders may come and go but HFs should still be in for the next leg up based on continued fundamentals doing well vs peers, and FCF again adding cash on reduced revs.

    Lastly, skepticism is healthy and warranted and with this company keeps that wall of worry ready to climb,
    all the while driving us nuts at times, but these guys imo will still utilize the co.'s strengths appropriately to keep company on upwards path and thus the rationale for holding for the next pay-off ( and pay-out with the chunk of cash we own in Bermuda). I just wanted it by now, and 2015 demands "shareholder friendly" actions!

    P.S. Ytd Flat Stock price between $23 and $25 still gave some nice trade opportunities for anynso inclined, and last week was most recent example for those who could grab 2% pop in a few days while the stock is just 1% up ytd. Meanwhile, still holding more than a few June 19 $30.00 CCs sold between 10 cts and 20 cts, which seemed like a safe hedge.

    SK's comment re: conversion status: ". The effective date of ThaiLin merger is expected to be on June 17, 2015. This gives us added confidence as we move through the year, and pursue both corporate growth opportunities and catalysts around our restructuring efforts that can build further shareholder value.”

    Turtoro,
    I stopped a work-project near the market's close, and saw the $23.56 sale of about 600 + shares.
    Then, at 4:03 p.m, EDT 3000 shares sold @$22.00! A few more minutes after the qtr.'s results get posted, buys are at $23.38 AH.
    I agreee totally with the buyback mode, and liked seeing the increase cash with less than stellar numbers in the offing. 20+% GMs seem ok. The capex is staying manageable as well, but to get timely Taiwanese interest and coverage, the structure conversion has got to be pushed. End of discussion.
    From the tone of SK's quote, sounds like they will move ahead...when they move ahead.

    Agreed, $165 million was first-quarter;

    Now Imos beaten down, in the red on little volume;
    calls for June, 2015 $30 strike price also last sold for $.10, but none sold today.

    C-H, Cowen targets stay the same, see how CC affects everything, if at all.

    mt61,

    The momo run continues, 5 weeks of up, pause, up, divi, up;
    took some profits, latest at $2.26, but this is fun, and still holding.

    I touted this on 4/9/15 as a speculative buy on the IMOS message board, which is one of the best
    boards on Yahoo, exceptionally astute investors, (and a stock in the OSAT industry that has been a story to itself with possibly a lot more to run) but doubt anyone took a stab, unless someone confirms otherwise.

    Congrats to all patient longs, as well as recent buyers when it popped to $1.90+.

    Good luck in hanging in, adding to the kitty.

    Yesterday's rebound recouped 1/3 of April's drop, and we all know fundamentals were not affecting the stock price either yesterday or for the month of April. The 9,14, 20, 50, and 100 dmas were cracked, but it held @ 200dma at the close on Thursday.

    8150 has been on somewhat of a recoupment, but, again, on low volume.
    Other than competitors' suggesting a push-out of growth to the 3rd or 4th qrtr., this stock should fare well, but
    repeating the mantra, "It's the conversion, stupid" won't make it happen sooner.

    So retailers, like the HFs, are going to need yet more patience, and hopefully not cringe too much at the next CC Q&A. Shareholder friendly statements would be nice. [At least Thailin should be complete]. Otherwise, some tough ?s need answering.

    Meantime drops and pops have been scarily predictable to make a few bucks in the same trading range these last several months, esp. like yesterday when the market as a whole had the big rebound.
    But that is not the end game by any means.

    Well, fact is IMOS down 6.3% for April, mostly on low volume. If it's any consolation, yesterday's close stayed right at the 200dma.

    Today's bounce also on low volume. Since I liked it at $23.35, picked up a little more yesterday at $23.06. What it closes at today or trades at next week before the CC is anybody's guess. But there clearly are still some trades for profit out there.

    "...semiconductor industry may be found in second half 2015 with the recovery in smartphone and mobile computing, mobile, and even we think twice in the interest of sell-through products and return to a pledge of middle to high single digit growth this year.

    So you guys are not seeing any inventory corrections or anything right now.
    Bough Lin - Chairman
    I said I would have to say then it's not been -- it's not inventory proven it's consuming the marketing; the message is market is demanding the product."
    SPIL missed by a penny on earnings supposedly but beat on revs., stock down 2%, still over $8, at high end for last 12 mos. Their CC was short and sweet.

    Taiex down generally, and Earthquake off the Taiwanese coast but fortunately not serious(see below); meanwhile 6147 was up.
    "
    TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — A strong undersea earthquake struck between Taiwan and southern Japan on Monday, sparking a house fire that killed a person outside of Taiwan's capital and causing Japanese authorities to evacuate some schoolchildren as a tsunami precaution.

    The quake triggered an advisory for a tsunami of up to 1 meter (3 feet) in Japan that was lifted after just over an hour. It caused buildings in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei to sway, and people there rushed into the streets.

    A person was killed in a house fire in the Taipei suburb of Xinzhuang that was sparked by the explosion of an electricity transformer box due to the quake, Taiwan's fire and rescue agency said in a statement, without providing any further details.

    Taiwan's official Central News Agency gave the age of the deceased as 84, but offered no other details. One other person was injured in the fire, the government said.

    Footage from Taiwanese television broadcaster TBS showed signs and lights swinging from the ceiling of a newsroom in Taipei. Fire crews sealed off a multi-level parking lot in central Taipei after the mechanical parking tower failed, damaging 11 cars.

    The Japan Meteorological Agency said the magnitude-6.8 quake's epicenter was at a shallow point in seas east of Taiwan and south of Okinawa, near the Yonaguni islands. It said no tsunami was detected.

    Television footage of the area showed calm seas, but as a precaution schoolchildren in some low-lying parts of islands in the region were evacuated to safer locations.

    Japan reacts intensely to tsunami risks following the massive destruction caused by a March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that killed more than 18,500 people.

    Taiwan's worst earthquake was a magnitude-7.3 temblor that struck the center of the island in September 1999, killing 2,415 people.

    bama,
    Correct.
    Business looks/is good, while markets bleeding today in a sea of red, another baby (Imos) tossed with the market correction's bathwater. Technicals got slammed.

    So just bought back bet. 23.59 -.65 in trading portion, with proceeds from shares sold @$24.59 on 3/31/15, and may get hit on a buy/limit order below $23.50.

    Hoping no hidden negative surprises/undue delay for final conversion process. Thailin is a done deal, and dividend reqts. of overseas and here are hard to ignore for those who want to add or get in now.
    Market's correction are a b*^&*% sometimes; April may be the cruelest month, but this too seems like one more opportunity imho.

    Turturo57b,
    So we both bought. My thumbs up just marked, to counter the "knee-jerk(s)" who love to thumbs down many of our posts here as their intellectual highlight of the day.

    Anyway, the last buy @$24.03 might still be high in short term, as 8150 took another beat down at session's end, but the spread still continues, and if not $10.00 gain, at least $4 to $5 should not be a stretch. CC on May 11, game on. Longs, feel free to opine.

    Bama,
    Anyone who has invested their hard earned capital in Imos has learned frustration is always part of the deal.
    Meanwhile. it trades at somewhat more than a 10% discount to below value 8150 as we speak, which should still serve as a floor before the next leg up.

    And as we've known for years, the Taiwan tax rules virtually mandate paying out profits, almost like a REIT in the U.S, so if they simply push forward with the primary listing overseas w/o undue, inexcusable delay, a climb to FV is reasonable expectation. Klarman's HF still probably holds a tad under 10%.

    Revs and income, even with intermittent FX blips, should maintain their projected climb imo.
    China may be slowing, but even that may cause them to juice up on the spending, loose-money side.
    Plenty of reason for 4K, NAND business to grow this year, and next, and next, as long as they execute and maintain if not increae their customer base. At some point the OSAT industry should also see consolidation.

    All reasons to grit and hold, add and trade where appropriate, just one long's honest evaluation fwiw..

    To keep the updated record correct, close today was below 9 and 14 dma; since volume was anemic, this may entitle us to a mulligan, but no news with IMOS is not generally good news for the stock price.

    There is clear resistance @$25, and U.S. has traded generally bet. 24 and 25 for months, even where, as yesterday 8150 closed up. Chose to buy in a little again, and still seeing positives, Spring forward, like daylight saving time. $25 April 17 calls sold a few months ago probably expire worthless to buyer, déjà vue over and over.

    Looks like Intel results in line has led to a post-close pop, pre-CC.

    Bob,
    Congrats on GE. I recall some years ago a trusted, respected member of the family saying GE is just a bank in disguise; well it's now paid out of the business, to the benefit is long time holders like you, nice.

    Icing on the cake is what many see w/IMOS, but the metrics are still compelling, and even Friday, another day trader's bonus, showed a close above the 9 and 14 dma, after still crushing the 50 and 200. April may get Thailin done.
    Imos still trading well over a buck below 8150, which itself is undervalued as well.
    Just feel the May 11 cc will probably be less than informative on the conversion, based on the tortoise-pace execution of mngmt.
    Interested in seeing what happens to the April 17 $25 calls, to,say nothing of the June $30's.
    Still decent money to be made now and in the future on this co.
