  • Agree that "buying pressure" or institutional large block purchases are what will propel GNW. We will know from the volume today as to their commitment. So far, so good IMO. Any shorts left should have covered on Friday or today-----margin calls and MM know the amount. If they are really committed they will take a new short position at a higher level, when this buying volume dissipates. Then attack for a retrace.
IMO, as long as the institutions are content or satisfied with management's turn around progress, so am I.
All these share price levels are really cheap---as long as LTC is controlled with isolation/risk parameters, debt is paid down leading to upgrades and improvement in ratings and the MI divisions keep performing.
Mcinnerney needs a good showing through the election and investor meeting.
Let's see what he can put forth. Let the fun continue.
    Long and strong.

    Cheers

Is following today's CC from Bloomberg and calming WS nerves. Stresses isolation of LTC, rate increases and debt due in 2018 that can be met.
Overall very positive from where we have lived the past few years. Most important, indicative of a turn around fundamental change ----finally recognized in GNW by the institutions.

Once the shorts are done covering and some momentum buyers are finished, I expect a retrace . Then hopefully another longer ascent cycle from big time buyers that do not chase.
    Just how it works.

    Cheers to all longs

I am actually hoping for a "reversal in attitude and outlook" by the institutions, in addition to just a earnings "reversal in price".
The former, as we know, should be followed by high volume institutional buying, eventual analyst upgrades, positive press and improved ratings----and will have legs for a long continuation pattern. This company has been considered hopeless or having the plaque for the past several years. Now it should be focused upon as a extreme valuation bargain that has a high book value with a turn around in progress,
CC will be key and Mcinnerney needs to be positive and help shareholders while at the same time
truthful. We need the analysts, institutional buyers with some good press with upgrades to have the positive momentum continue.

    Cheers

    Same here Ahon.
CNO fortunately has been very positively predictable even though sometimes more volatile.
Management does care about shareholder value and works accordingly as a priority. It shows.
Buybacks and the dividend are sweet music for long time share holders, IMO.

    Cheers!

Hey Radical, hope all is good and as you say we live another day.

My two cents, is they will strive for the latter of the two options----separate---as there might be more financial flexibility. They are going thorough too much effort to let it just run but the second alternative would appear to give more advantages. Dividend stream would also be beneficial.
Besides, they might need to have more of these options when they fall into a future hole----again. lol

  • To isolating LTC division from the rest of the company. That is key.

The press has us "beating by .08", with a miss in revenue. Bloomberg notes a 66% reduction in profit from downsizing by McInerney but the underlying importance ----is that there is progress .

Key here in GNW today, IMO is to definitively look as the glass as half full---instead of half empty. Especially at these share price valuations. My two cents is that we see new long institutions (still really cheap valuation) taking new or added positions that will cause shorts to cover. Double help.
Looks good in AH so far.

    Cheers to all longs.
    Staying long and strong.

Agree. They are either shorting today as a flush out to accumulate shares--- because the results are good this quarter; or someone "knows" they are not so good and are selling. :-)
Most of the sector is also lower.

We should know soon enough on the numbers.

Still long and strong since the meltdown days.

Mixed results this quarter, a miss on earnings but a beat on revenue. Taking it on the chin today but could be worse.
The share buy backs for the remaining of the year should help, IMO.

    Cheers to all longs!

    So true Joe, so true.

If Mcinnerney does not deliver this quarter Joe or so to speak, "lays an egg"---not even the long sought after "token dividend" will save his job, IMO.

    We should know soon enough.

Is higher today, money flow (CMF) positive as of recent.
Bodes well or signifies institutions are adding or taking new positions.

We need some good results or decisions for LTC, no new negative news and a positive CC from management.

Institutional WS longs will not let hedge shorts cover cheaper until after Monday, for the margin calls.
    Pressure will be maintained.

Hold your shares guys, the pendulum swing will cause some serious pain for shorts as the feed on each other to cover. Make it tough.

Agree Slees. LTC needs to go or be completely isolated.
WS will not look favorably on GNW, as long as we remain presently structured. If there are delays or procrastinations ( whether from our CEO or finances ) to accomplish such action, I also anticipate delays in share price performance. No more CC positive talk with good options or kicking the can down the road.
Institutions want clarity and finality before they will renter in a big enough fashion to raise share price valuations. IMO, there is complete distrust in this division.

Agree Hounddog, I am holding common shares through earnings, though I believe there could still possibly be poor share price performance.
Is it the commitment to the LTC division, the distrust/dislike for the CEO Mcinnerney, slow progress in restructuring, previous massive reserve charge, multiple write-downs, reduced rating, better more stable/trusted insurance companies, some terrible analyst ratings, the horrible share price performance the past two years or-------all of the above.
The pendulum should swing soon, for the better, IMO.
It is in Mcinnerney's favor to have it swing sooner than later.

    Cheers

PS. If in about 6 months we are still here at these levels and there are GNW news headlines for "end of the year tax loss selling". A rinse and repeat, again----we know we were all dead wrong. :-)

Agree Von. The write downs were unavoidable with the path they chose but hopefully are near an end.
My viewpoint is that the institutions are aware of the same and will buy in advance or anticipation of future movement. The old phrase, "forward looking' will hopefully be appropriate.
Let's hope for new negative surprises. glta
