Agree, normal trading for just about all equities. If it did not happen now, down the road.

    Agree Slees, same old.
When you have the money to be able to swing Sp, writing options to expire worthless, is a bonus.

    Agree. Very possible Radical.
FWIW (nothing) the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement on GNW"s move from the 2.00 or so to the recent top at about 4.20 is at the 2.80 level. There is also an old gap from after earnings, right above that level.
Call it coincidence, call it gap fill, call it "buy the rumor/sell the news, call it support, call it traders exiting, call it MM's running stops or call it that the institutions will re buy at a 50--61.8 % level Fib retracement ---but we seem to be going there. Maybe not but with some overall market weakness, it should not be difficult, IMO.

Agree that would help. Also, on a positive note, GNW has traded against the overall market and sector even on down days. If the company's LTC stats, earnings and turn around are moving forward IMO we will go up in Sp.

In a nutshell, the pendulum has swung for the positive in GNW from management's restructuring ef
forts. Once LTC is isolated, risks parameters in force or has shown to be consistently profitable many institutions will have already added---prior to the actual media blitz finality. Money flow has been very strong as of recent which indicates institutions are buying presently. Higher ratings or improvement will also be a positive and attract more new buyers/additions, IMO.
No doubt about the headwinds: Low non productive interest rates, macro environment of competition and a possible general market /sector major down wave. They also need to produce overall good repetitive stable results quarter over quarter---with no negative surprises. As we know, this company has a history of finding a new pot hole or crack upon which to trip.
At these share price levels however, once it becomes clearer and clearer that McInerney's plan is working and time is on their side for the turn around, there should be more institutions willing to hold/add ( with less short term trading). They will then wait for the improved valuation closer to their peers.
    Cheers

The only logic in these sales and endeavors is the expediency to be able to isolate, separate or ring fence the LTC division.
With GNW structured as it has been and no potential for change, WS values this equity at (give or take)---two dollars. BV is not in their equation for what they want to pay in share price.
From a shorter term perspective perhaps GNW's ox is getting gored in these sales for what they might have been in a more ideal situation. Of course, ideal well performing and managed insurance companies do not routinely have billion dollar surprise reserve charges followed by 219 million dollar lawsuit judgements.
Bottom line, this company needs to simplify and restructure to a manner to which WS has trust and confidence.
Besides, McInerney wants to keep his job.

On a positive note money flow (CMF and Accumulation) both increased today, a down day. Someone is buying up the cheaper shares.

I have looked at the gaps since the surge.
They usually get filled, regardless of investor meetings, improved fundamentals, etc.
I know, not always but from a trade point of view, the MM likes the gaps filled. Usually it is just a matter of time.

I am not a member or user of Booth Laird but last I noticed they did announce the completion of the consent solicitation for GNW bonds on March 21 on twitter.
One would think with the fireworks and results post earnings this quarter, they would have been busy pumping to the media, singing praises. Nothing I noticed except that post in March 21. Share price that day popped to about 3.30 range.
Perhaps they sold in the pop?
    Time should tell.

We have been extremely overbought by many trading chart indicators for a while since the surge in Sp. Regardless of fundamentals and BV of GNW.
(RSI, STO, ULT, etc and share price is outside the BB) It can stay like that for a time but for the most part there is a rebalancing and return to the mean which is what we are seeing presently, IMO. Typically, many institutions will wait to buy for a retrace to a MA or a Fibonacci level to get a better price.

Pennies make dollars---and on millions of shares, it adds up very well for a days work.
This action is typical or one scenario, after a fast run up after positive earnings. Let price run up early on in the morning momentum, then short from that high the rest of the time to collect stop loss triggers. Many who recently purchased from this past surge in share price, knowing the trading history of GNW put in stop loss orders and will not want to hold it at a certain % loss---if at all. As long as there are no continuing large block buyers, the trading range can be profitable for some fund traders. Toss in options they write to expire worthless and they are happy.

There are almost endless possibilities of techniques and variances in investing and trading. Especially when concerning the options market for hedging long and short, time frame of the investment and/or option, one's individual finance position, type of account and risk profile.
To write your own rule book on success and failure and then pass judgement (upon your interpretation) of another poster"s results and history is easy----but ultimately just ridiculous.

From a back handed viewpoint, Suneet will get his professional reputation burned again.
The first time he was bullish when he should have been bearish. Fine.
Presently, though he is basically saying the company is hopeless or should be shorted---all the time while it is surging to multiple times his target price.
IMO, he needs to become more detached from his emotions, feelings/anger and more "professional".
Otherwise he loses all credibility and looks more like a vindictive middle schooler with a temper.

I doubt he will ever go to neutral, regardless of share price or improved fundamentals in GNW, IMO.
He has a personal vendetta/hate for McInerney and will continue to do his best to cause doubt and uncertainty----always looking for a a fault and weakness. My guess, he really got burned professionally from the surprise write down in LTC. He will not forget.
More hope if he switches institutions, gets promoted or changes positions at the bank.
Or if Mcinnerney leaves, he might change his tune.

    Good strong bullish trading today.
Market and sector were down and after a huge surge from the past couple of days--- only a small retrace such that all sellers were quickly bought up, on high volume.
As we know, strength is always good to test on a down day not one with short covering, good earnings and a positive market. Let the dust settle, shorts re attack and then see how we hold up.
    So far, great , IMO.

Agree that "buying pressure" or institutional large block purchases are what will propel GNW. We will know from the volume today as to their commitment. So far, so good IMO. Any shorts left should have covered on Friday or today-----margin calls and MM know the amount. If they are really committed they will take a new short position at a higher level, when this buying volume dissipates. Then attack for a retrace.
IMO, as long as the institutions are content or satisfied with management's turn around progress, so am I.
All these share price levels are really cheap---as long as LTC is controlled with isolation/risk parameters, debt is paid down leading to upgrades and improvement in ratings and the MI divisions keep performing.
Mcinnerney needs a good showing through the election and investor meeting.
Let's see what he can put forth. Let the fun continue.
    Long and strong.

    Cheers
