...uhhhh...his name to help add credibility to a scam, maybe?...and a really, really awful hairstyle (judging from his Iris Cantor photo)...that's about all I can think of...unless, of course, the company is thinking about developing a little urinanalyis box complete with test stips...and in exchange he gets to collect a nice fat quarterly fee for picking up the telephone and "attending" a BOD meeting for an hour or so...easy money to help pay for that ritzy home in Chappaqua...

...three day old roadkill already!...fom an interview with the CEO:

    "July 3, 2014 6:08 am

Three months after his father died of diabetes,...Rafael received an offer to join Lifestyle.. "Like someone radioed me to come work here," he said in an interview with G and hoped that investors lined up with the development that could change the lives of 350 million diabetics worldwide..."

"Radioed him"???....sheeez!...did they also "radio" him that million bucks they paid him in 2013?...

...I mean, seriously, look at this guy's work history:

1998-2011 Amdocs in order: software engineer, development manager - amdocs delivery Group, post-merger Integration & program manager, director of strategy - CTO Office

2010-2012 Co-founder: redB -- "LTD introduced mySuper.co.il as an e-commerce platform for supermarkets..." which apparently went belly-up since "redb" is now some sort of streaming video service.

I wonder whether it wasn't the the unemployment office that "radioed" him!

So his experience with diabetes is limited to his dad, his experience with medical devices in general is nil, as evidently is his experience with marketing, but if we need someone to fix the computer, he's the guy to call -- is that about right?

And they paid him a million in 2013??? Go figure!

...starting a new thread since yahoo gets messy after a half dozen or so responses...

...in any case, from 2 years ago:

"Philosys announced today that it has received the CE Mark for the Gmate SMART Blood Glucose Monitoringblood glucose monitoring Sugar monitoring Lab medicine."

Now if you go to their website , you can see:

    ___.imsol-inc.___/product/gmate-smart/

...sorry, but thanks to yahoo's dislike of hotlinking, you'll have to fill in the blanks yourself...as you can see, it bears a rather striking remsemblance to you know who...now, in 2011, at least, they were claiming:

"The patent pending technology of the Gmate SMART uses the operating system of the smart phone and works by plugging the device into the headphone See headphones. connector of the smart phone, and launching the companion app."

...and that's where I stopped...someone else can go look to see if there might be any patent infringement issues...

I looked for "labstyle" and found only those two items...I looked up some of the indiviuals and under "feurst" found one more: "CLAIM The ornamental design for a blood glucose cartridge, as shown and described."...but all it shows is a drawing of the other two drawings combined into one-- " FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a blood glucose cartridge showing our new design" plus drawings from above, below, etc...it's listed as: "Filed on Jan. 24, 2013, as Appl. No. 29/443,968."...so it looks to me that all they have patented in the US is the design of the box and of the phone plug...

I also looked for "dario" and found a bunch of people but nothing related to "dario" -- have they even bothered to trademark the name?

...shoot, y'all!...it's Chinese!...I doubt they even have a word for "patent" in Chinese!...

..."iHealth Lab is part of China-based Andon Health"...Andon trades on the Shenzhen exchange...

...and you can sum up the value of DRIO's "notice of allowance" in two words -- "jack" and "sh__"...all that means is DRIO can proceed with their application...and if you go to the patent office and read them, the first is a "CLAIM The ornamental design for a glucose meter, as shown and described." and the other is " CLAIM The ornamental design for a blood glucose cartridge, as shown and described."...there's nothing there but a couple of DRAWINGS of the gizmos...so the impression is that all they've applied to "patent" so far is the "ornamental design"...yeah, that's gotta be worth a lot!...

...did you read my response to your previous reply?...did you read the comments section of the latest seekingalpha DRIO article?...sure, the ihealth thing is "cute" and probably some women will buy the thing for the colors...however, it's primary SELLING point will be the cost of the strips -- ONE QUARTER the price of most strips AND "below the typical insurance co-pay contribution"...

...dario is ANTIQUE...a simple, tiny bluetooth dongle enables ANY meter with a USB to do everything dario claims...and glooka and ditto enables practically ANY glucometer to do what dario claims...

...you expect the ability to store some supplies in the box to be a selling point?...you're trying to sell a comb to a bald man!...does it store alcohol pads?...does it store bandaids?...does it store 2x2s?..do you have even a remote idea of what diabetics want?....the average diabetic will care less about dario's little box...anyone wanting a little box can buy one -- size, shape, color -- to suit whatever need they might have...

...on the other hand, IF the ihealth claim about the cost of the strips is accurate, THAT could be a game changer...how will dario respond?...who cares -- dario is just an excuse to sell stock and feed management...

...also note that DRIO's website says NOTHING about dario being available for android...so far it says only apple phones...

  • ...someone was wagging their jaws about the "convenience" of dario, well, lookee what the FDA just approved:

"iHealth Lab...has received FDA clearance and is launching its iHealth Align blood glucose monitor in the U.S. This is the smallest FDA cleared glucometer, but it requires an Android or iOS device to take readings. The device is plugged into the 3.5 mm headphone jack of your phone/tablet and from there it’s operated pretty much like any other glucometer, with all the interaction done through the phone/tablet’s touchscreen."

...slightly bigger than a quarter and sooooo cute and the case comes in FOUR different colors!...say what:

"iHealth also announced the iHealth Simple Savings program to eliminate complexities associated with insurance paperwork by significantly lowering the price of their proprietary test strips. The new price is about one-quarter of the list price of most name brand test strips, placing it at or below the typical insurance co-pay contribution. Users can now purchase iHealth strips and avoid hassles associated with reimbursement for insurance coverage."

...cute AND economical!...hard to beat, but wait:

"The Simple Savings program will also incorporate an option in the near future to automate test strip replenishment through the iHealth Gluco-Smart mobile app, which intelligently tracks individual test strip usage, allowing for accurate and timely refills."

Wow! It even automatically orders refills -- how convenient!...oh, my, I'm glad i'm not a dario salesman!...

....awwwwww, what's the matter, bunky?...BAGHOLDING got you down?...I suggest you read the comments to "Update On Dario Launch And Progress" article on Seeking Alpha"...it kinda points out how you can use a simple, tiny bluetooth dongle to enable ANY glucometer with a USB to connect to ANY phone...it also describes a number of other devices and services that render the dario OBSOLETE...I choose Contour simply becasue it appears to be quite popular, is free from Bayer, and comes with a discount program for strips and supplies -- little things that can make competing difficult...I certainly wouldn't want to take on the likes of Bayer -- I'm not into that David vs Goliath stuff...get it?...tiny scam Israeli biotech versus etc, etc...HAW!

...the comments section also points out that dario apparently is only available for ios so far with no indication of when android will be available -- at least that's the way I read the website...and I vaguely recalled it challenging the credibility of some of those "distributors" DRIO allegedly has lined up...on in particlular I recall is in New Zealand; that one actually appears to have been set up by DRIO itself...I wonder how legal it is to set up a distributor yourself and then announce an agreement with it WITHOUT revealing you set it up...cheers!...

  • ...for accuracy...the FDA recently made accuracy requirements stricter -- a glucometer must read within 15% of true glucose levels 95% of the time for blood glucose over 100...the old standard was within 20%...given the Dario is now what -- 10 plus YEARS old, one has to wonder whether it can meet these new requirements...

...for comparison, the VASTLY SUPERIOR Bayer Contour USB met the new requirements even before the final standards were announced...

...also, Dario wasn't included in Freckmann et al's "System accusacy evaluation of 27 blood glucose monitoring systems" from 2010....and DRIO's stupid owner's manual on their website has a section called "accuracy" which, oddly enough, provides NO INFORMATION about accuracy!...somehow I doubt this antique device will pass muster in the old "accuracy" department....

  • rrtzrealmd rrtzrealmd Jul 8, 2014 9:02 AM Flag

...an "estimate of what this worth"???...uhhhhh, how about ZERO?...good enough for you?...think "socialized medicine" -- for example:

"Diabetes UK is concerned that people with diabetes are experiencing restrictions in their access to test strips and meters...We conducted a survey to further investigate the situation following an increase in calls to the Careline and Advocacy teams about this issue.

The survey found that 39 per cent of respondents had either been refused a prescription of blood glucose test strips or had their prescription restricted – many in the last year. Of those who had experienced restrictions, 58 per cent were people with Type 1 diabetes and 40 per cent with Type 2 diabetes."

Nevertheless, you go to the "farlamedical" and compare prices...you see the Dario costs about 18E versus 33E for the VASTLY SUPERIOR Bayer Contour USB...but wait!...you check the Bayer website and see that there you can get a Contour USB absolutely FREE!...so much for THAT cost comparison...

...then see what the test strips sell for -- there's where the REAL dough lies...you see that Contour's test strips cost about 17E for 50 while Dario's cost about 30E for 100 -- sort of competitively priced...but wait!...you go to the Bayer website again and see that they have the "Contour Choice Program" which reimburses you around $35 per prescription...so much for that comparison as well!...

...then again, who cares?...because it's SOCIALIZED medicine and you'll be lucky to see a shilling's worth of profit regardless!...

...gee, what a bunch of suckers!"...total lack of transparency ..."highly unusual"???...not really...not if you ain't got no "potential partners," it ain't!....remember this:

"We made substantial progress toward a definitive agreement with a lead potential partner; however, as the discussions progressed, we came to believe that it would be more productive to complete a partnership after we have received a response from the United States Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, regarding our new drug application for AFRESA."

...that was from 2009!....FIVE YEARS go!...hmmmmmm, "WE came to believe"?...say what, Mr. Analyst:

"In fact, negotiations with the partner were so advanced that MNKD ceased talking to other potential partners. Term sheets apparently were set but the partner reportedly withdrew after review with its regional commercial managers, who were not included in the negotiations until the end but ultimately raised objections regarding the deal."

...oh, yeah!...right!..like you wait until a deal is almost completed, and THEN ask for an opinion from your "regonal commercial managers" -- yeah!..uh-huh!...gotcha!...hey, probably better than just coming out and confessing there were NO "negotiations" to begin with, right?...

I'm going to quit talking to you...you got me to look at MNKD and when I saw what some of those idiots on seekingalpha were trying to claim, I felt compelled to offer an alternative view and there just isn't time to try and rebuke all the biotech scams currently trading...and that worries me because the last time biotechs got this "stupid" was back around 1999-2000 and the subsequen "correction" wasn't pretty -- to say the least...

...however, since my IMMR decided to bolt higher the past couple of days and I'm feeling generous, I'd say ARO has possibilities...minimal debt, goodwill, and intangibles...don't know what the company's excuse is for going from making two bucks a share 3 years ago to losing money this year...has an interested investor in Sycamore...so it's worth considering, but given what Sycamore did with Talbot's I'd be leery of risking much...but I haven't studied the 10Qs so maybe there's more than meets the eye...
