no LB connection...but.....on Geovax website news dated August 1, 2013, they stated a grant award received to do research on B21 (GM-CSF) with additional protein boost approach - you can read about this on the geovax website on that date. I just find it interesting as the current 'news' is stating that HVTN is relegating B11 to a 'protein boost' to be named - by them - at a later date - but this fits into Dr. Robinson's conceptualized rollout of marrying non-neutralizing (DNA/MVA) and neutralizing (w/ new protein boost approach) antibodies....

She is still further along than anyone else in owning the timing sequence of events to defend the body against the virus successfully (when she was talkng about vaccine 'design' at the pharma powwow - she was SO on point) - unless major pharma unlocks the 'sterilizing immunity' codex - which has eluded all mankind....ummm...FOREVER.

HVTN is purported to be somewhat directing company by using B11 and a protein boost to be named later to marry up with B11....well, when you look at the intended GOVX grant award accomplished by Dr. Kwa reported by GOVX on 8/13, you see that it is for B21 (GM-CSF). So.........combination of non-neutralizing (DNA/MVA) and neutralizing with protein boost....is Dr. Robinson's path...and HVTN is adopting this path with B11 as it is out of the gate a bit further......so, if GOVX is resetting B21 to safety phase 1 for hiv infected participants, then this neutralizing combinatoin approach with subunit protein boosts can be combined to ideally be an 'arm' of that study....right? .....provided the grant award $$ actually came through to GOVX.....

  • I'd guess Dr. Robinson has ALREADY seen or clearly is quite aware of the value of 'protein boost' ....is Yerkes doing the work?, money come through? note: 'preclinical' ..........

  • ....isn't adding proteins changing the formula per se - so wouldn't you have to go back to phase 1? since you are changing the drug ? 'the hvtn believes this is the prudent and cost effective path forward...' sure sounds like a phase 1. 'Geovax expects the next clinical trial....' not phase, but trial - so... new 'phase 1' for b11 w/ hvtn protein addition(s)....provided the hvtn doesn't RE-contemplate govx b11 into an efficacy trial....and look like their actually doing something here in the Americas....instead of back-burnering or phase 1-ing this completed phase 2a.....

google P5 and Gates Foundation and RV144 ; HVTN is vested in 'looking' for a cure (their org is growing hand over fist - 'looking' not solving) ; google: pubmed 20846039 - see 1st illustration - this answers 'why' to the GOVX science - if I'm big pharma like Merck(?) on the HIV vaccine sidelines - I'd have my lawyers due diligence their/GOVX patent portfolio for sure....then weigh time and cost of end run on science versus acquisition - afterall, it is always a race....and even if you don't win, the cache of the headlines you could generate with a larger team focused on this foundational science, it would lift all boats in the company......

Pre-clinical w/ GM-CSF is the proof. NCT01378156 is a safety trial. Efficacy would be a phase 2. Non-neutralizing antibody approach to HIV vaccine dev is GOVX. google: pubmed 23130709. I think HVTN knows GOVX science and sadly their bank account; so they force there hand by cutting off the tap...getting them to push B11 into the spotlight to marry off or completely trash the scientific pathway in a combination with a 'protein' that THEY (HVTN) choose to be named later - how messed up is that? ...so GOVX hopefully gets to suck the NIH tit a little longer with HVTN in charge of the milking and a whole lot more. Whose company is this?! So, Harriet's gotta cut the budget and go through a safety trial with the thoroughbred - B21....hey, that's why monkeys and repeated rectal challenges were done....I'm thinking more politics than science now.....I conclude B. Moss influence at NIH is more scientist than politician or I don't think any of this would have happened....so the GOVX signing of his former protege Domi would actually make sense.....HVTN is banking so much $$ from P5/Gates Foundation - the search for a cure is more profitable than an actual cure for them....

  • When Carson was leaving Leno won the job by rallying all the NBC affiliates who he had relationships with from his comedy circuit days. Same here. These HVTN affiliates know the promise of the pre-clinical work of GOVX, yet due to the politics at HVTN they must be mute...they're on the 'cash train' too. As the HVTN grows, so do they....

Harriet needs to lobby all the hvtn research affiliates HARD to overcome the politics of the HVTN leadership infecting NIH decisions (think government workers - not expert problem solvers, right?) on AIDS research. She has the MOST promising pre-clinical SIV/HIV results. She presents comparison of preclinical results with GM-CSF to RV144 (google: gm-csf hiv robinson) to World Health Organization in 2012 - that should have spelled it out that phase 2 was a big fat GO. No question, right? But today, the NIAID vaccine research page just jabbers about RV144 and the science of RV144.

That's why we use the monkey's people! To advance the research in the most timely way possible.

Well, I reason that hvtn affiliates are intellects and logical - as they have slogged through the research too. Wouldn't you want to announce progress on ALL fronts re: AIDS research/vaccine???? Always need a deep bench of talent and Geovax is irrefutably on THAT bench....sadly, it's like having Walter Payton #34 on the bench....

Milk, I'm down for that. It's true. Mob up for litigation and patent attorneys; mob up to gallop the science instead of walk; mob up so cash is a non-issue. Harriett/GOVX IS the pretty girl at the mixer, we are just waiting for someone to ask her to dance....the HVTN is the jealous cheerleader....? lol, ok, I'm done.

Line up some humans up for 'HIV rectal challenges' and maybe we can replicate monkey work....'hear expired buzzer sound....' That's why P5 and Gates took it to Thailand, recruited 16,000 people and ended up with 157(?) people getting HIV. Without recruiting a broad base, the 'prevention' angle is tough to 'prove.' With monkeys, you can force the issue on all of them, yet that monkey work is EONS further than the work in Thailand, but it seems the HVTN is shrugging it off. I mean, why rush in, when you can sit back, and suck more cash out of the Gates Foundation looking for the silver bullet.....which probably doesn't exist...so, why not stall the vaccine that works like all the other working vaccines....a couple years at least....in 2010, the metrics of monkey B21 were SO promising, that phase 3 was spoken - in hushed tones - by the FDA, NIH, etc. - about the 'promise' of the GOVX science....now where did those whisperers go????....sipping margaritas on Gates boat in the Bay of Thailand....in fairness to Moss at NIH - the guy had to be blindsided by the uppity-ups because he brought Domi to GOVX and respects the science....

    Memory Response SIV Prototypes

thanks 85. Govx has solid science. Gilead with anti retrovirals scores (8 year?) deal to provide product that a) doesn't work and b) poor compliance - to NY state HIV population. (doesn't work at pubmed/24152938) When other anti-retroviral mfgs. try to 'post up' on Gilead by trying the pill-a-day-approach with other free-spending democratic states with large gay populations - with politicians that want the gay vote - GOVX patents would be a GREAT add to their anti retroviral 'pill-a-day' offer.

  • Spelling out the science of how ALL vaccines work for the scientific illiterate at the HVTN - that's our beloved Harriett - girl's got fire in her belly! Others pursue potentially unattainable sterilizing approach vs Harriett's proven (as in this is how vaccines work...morons) memory response - over 3 years of rectal challenges - controlling local infection. Journal of Virology is always a big deal. The editorial board is looking for 'newsworthy.' You'd be surprised who's on the editorial staff(s) of these relevant major journals...

vaulting to .39 on 2000+ shares - clearly somethings brewing...ouch on those options Harriett - time to license the tech, then head to the beach and get Juan pouring that long overdue pitcher of pina coladas....

  • pubmed article concludes: sequence coverage by HIV Gag-specific immune responses as a possible correlate of protection that may contribute to control of virus replication - find Frahms powerpoint.

Robinson reiterated importance of Gag and Env immune response back in 2008 when she left Emory - old news and rather disturbing that HVTN is just arriving at that conclusion now....

hard to imagine the HVTN throwing one of their star research organizations under the bus, but Geovax does not have the Gates Foundation cash fronting new facilities in South Africa; providing $$$ abilities to expand into completely new infectious disease protocols....Geovax just offers the best current technology for HIV....per Geovax S-1 Jan 2014.

HIV can be at undetectable levels, yet still present in the body....so 'cured' is impossible to claim right?

CD4+ 500 cells/µL and hiv-1 RNA at less than 50/ml pcr these are the two measures for the cherry picked patients...above. cd4 count is in healthy, non hiv patient; and RNA less than 50 is undectable....

The baseline (pre-treatment) HIV RNA level, combined with the baseline CD4 count, predicts progression to AIDS and death. All nine patients were cherry picked perfect patients on stable suppressive ART, defined as HIV-1 RNA 500 cells/µL - is study inclusion criteria and the level found in the HIV negative person.....you and me.

really, the impact of the 9? dunno about that.
