  • Just need to say I was an engineer and then stock broker with E. F. Hutton...I love technical analysis and of course had excellent training with Hutton and reading the then bible of technical analysis by Edward & McGee...well the IPCI chart looks very interesting and positive.. large bottoming pattern supported by the 50 dma of 2.61 ready to penetrate the 200 dma at 2.66....the 100 dma is 2.51.. so that would be the first penetration is a long time. the OBV, on balance volume has been in a strong uptrend since the bottom in February. and the MACD is giving a positive sign..the bottom pattern may be seen as a head shoulder reversal..the problem is this is a news thinly traded woule think it will take a good news article to get it over the resistance levels..

  • Over the last several months, private equity firms have been raising billions of dollars to invest specifically in energy. They're preparing to refinance sinking energy companies, buy their distressed debt and otherwise outright buy and own the production or the underlying assets that cheap oil has forced up for sale.

Must Read: Warren Buffett's Top 10 Dividend-Paying Stocks for 2015

Just about every big PE firm has raised mega-billion dollar funds for deployment into the energy space: Warburg Pincus raised its first energy fund, a $4 billion effort last October. That's been followed by a $3.5 billion fund from Blackstone, $5 billion from Energy Capital Partners, and almost $10 billion in two funds by Carlyle Group (CG).

These players along with other PE monsters like Apollo Global Management (APO), KKR (KKR) and Tudor Pickering Holt have raised an estimated $38 billion dollars to deploy on energy fixed income and production assets.

Blackstone has raised a specific energy fund, even after pushing $500 million of fresh capital towards energy producer Linn Energy (LINE) in January of this year for 85% of future production in developing wells. The structure of the Blackstone/Linn deal has been a model for the kinds of structured finance and assets the private equity world is looking to purchase over the next two years. That deal was very advantageous for Blackstone and offers minimal risk, while the upside, especially if oil prices recover above $75, are huge.

One thing that seems clear is mega-funds raised for private equity firms will be deployed into assets, increasing PE's influence in energy. Besides just owning debt or underlying equity, we will see many of these firms take on the responsibility of real oil- and gas-producing assets as well as pipelines and storage. In many ways, Blackstone is about to become, at least in part, an energy company.

And, by all indications, a really well-positioned one. For a long-term investment in energy, it might be the best oil company out there right now.

  • no one buys like that without reason..the speculators come and go on a whim..but investors are buying

  • As for Blackstone, they took their target to $47 from $45 and reiterated a Buy rating, calling it their top pick in the alternative funds sector.

    Again, from the note:

With the strong 1Q, we think BX once again will likely have shown the best execution across each major facet of the business. Gross fund raising of $30bn (which we think could be matched again in 2Q if BCP VII reaches its hard cap of $17.5bn) could help BX achieve nearly $90bn in funds raised this year (vs. $57bn in 2014), in our view. Capital deployment of $5.1bn was healthy & likely to increase in 2Q with the large real estate transactions. Portfolio performance was solid with real estate funds up 8.2%, private equity up 6.4% (including public holdings in BCP V up 12%), and hedge fund solutions up 2.7%. Realizations of $13.5bn were also a record driving record realized gross carried interest of $1.2bn. In addition to fundraising, we also remain constructive on the realization & deployment pipeline, particularly in real estate, though to the extent real estate rose in contribution to BX results over the next 1-2 years, it could create some investor concern on real estate concentration risk.
