"we have now received three of the four prepayments from Apple." Not "loan", but "prepayments". Am I reading too much into this, or did GTAT unintentionally confirm that they have orders from Apple for sapphire?

Cali, It's been such a wild (and amazing) ride these past few months, that guys who've shown up recently to poke fingers at calls made by you, Matt, Chelle and others are getting a bit under my skin.

I remember when PPS was stuck at the 8.xx and Matt sent his first article to SA, creating a catalyst where there was none coming from GTAT. Then you and Matt putting all that time into digging info on shipments and putting together the first real understanding of what was going on.

That these guys now show up because of news you helped create only to criticize your efforts without putting up any of their own is... well... annoying.

I understand clearly that I'm not really contributing anything here, I use the information others put together to help me make the best choices, which is what the critics on this board are doing as well. I hope some of them appreciate the effort put in, whether they agree with the conclusions or not.

Unless I am mistaken, Matt did say he expects this to be announced in the next 90 days.

If people are whispering +0.27 where the guidance is for -0.20 to -0.25, then the market is truly messed and there is no chance for any of us. If , however, you were suggesting that the whisper was -0.27, then GTAT kicked some serious butt! The only (reasonable) conclusion is that the consensus was for -0.21 and they missed by a cent.

If you've got powder left, buy now and watch it grow after the CC.

Matt, please email me the credentials to get into the MB for your site. Most longs have gone quiet on this board and I'm guessing that much of the progressive talk has moved onto your site.

Looking forward to reading the posts there.

In the last CC, TG was asked about the selling of his shares, and his response was an instant "I've got more than $30m skin in the game". Now you tell me how many shares and options he has left. The SA article was quite inaccurate (whether deliberately or not, I can't say).

Exactly right, duped. The man is in his mid 60's and has a right to enjoy the benefits of his efforts (in small doses). And for the record, I do mean SMALL doses. 300k shares may appear like a lot, but it's just a tiny part of his overall holdings.

    sapphire glass

    by thomas_o1 May 6, 2014 10:23 PM

Actually, the term "Sapphire Glass" is coined from it's use in watches, where "Glass" is the proper name for the watch's transparent front cover. You could have, in this application, "Acrylic Glass", "Mineral Glass", or "Sapphire Glass" in describing the part's name. Recently, many vendors have started calling them "Watch Crystals", though "glass" is still commonly used.

15 after ER, 19 after CC. TG is a voice that inspires confidence and is needed to make guidance believable after the expected low numbers for Q1.

4 years ago I bought a pair of Maui Jim's with custom prescription lenses. MJ's are by far the best polarized lenses on the market, but the price on having them make prescription lenses came to over $1,000!

It is an incredible shame that 4 years down they not only have scratches, but some of the coatings flaking off! The frames, however remain in excellent shape. As much as I love my MJ's, I have refrained from getting another set of lenses made because of the life cycle.

If I had the option of getting sapphire protection for a few hundred more, I'd jump on it immediately. Until then, MJ, unfortunately, has lost a very loyal customer.

  • small as it may be, I noticed that my macbook pro has a glass-covered trackpad. Naturally, I don't see any scratches on it because of the uniform aluminum background, nor do I have any knowledge of stats on damaged trackpads, but I'm guessing that between the macbooks, and magic pads, there likely is room for a few million covers per year.

The day before the last earning report, they did the same thing (positive PR release) and the same questions were asked. Yet they had all expectations beat and pps started an incredible climb after the report. Nothing new for GTAT, and it would be a bad idea to take a position based on the timing of this release.

I suppose it's not unlike rallying for a team - GO GTAT! Very easy to get emotional about it all. However, I agree, there's no room for name-calling and maintaining self-respect. I sincerely apologize for my earlier remark.

    SA article on insider selling

Wow! I didn't think my thoughts rated 5 thumbs down, and I'm now wondering which side of the fence they're from. I'm a GTAT long since 8.xx with no plans to sell in the next 2 - 3 years, with either a Buy or Hold sentiment below each of my posts (depending on whether I'm adding or sitting put for a little bit).

I'm guessing the thumbs down are from a) shorts who read the message in it's entirety and didn't appreciate my long term sentiment, or b) Pumpers who couldn't be bothered to read more than the first 3 lines and automatically assumed I felt TG was lying, or c) closet SA fans.

It's sunday night and I've nothing to do but amuse my self.

ever go up 2 or more days in a row?

The word "innovation" gets bandied about a fair bit these days, and unfortunately, with terribly limited definitions.

The press considers innovation to be reflected in what the consumer sees. Better camera, larger screen, higher resolution (though that seems to be going the way megapixels on cameras went where more mp was assumed to mean better pictures - complete BS), and as many unnecessary widgets as one could imagine.

However, innovation can, and does, exist in a "can't be seen" way too, which results in numbers only, and Apple in this regard is one of the most innovative companies on the planet. These innovations take place behind the scenes, and include efficiencies, supply chains, closing off availability of commodities to competitors, vertical acquisitions, HR, and a host of other elements that result in profitability and customer retention. Jobs was innovative on the front end, TC is equally innovative on the back end.

I don't know why there is a sentiment that Apple lacks innovation. GTAT is just one example where this sentiment is proved wrong.
