Share holders don't care about Ford's trucks, their partnership with Google and self driving cars. The only thing shareholders care about is the share price increasing and the only thing that will make that happen is for the dividend to start increasing. My opinion and ranting only. I'm done now.
I agree, this is the real issue. Kinder Morgan made decisions based on what the oil market was like at their highs, not counting on prices going this low, shale producers putting things on hold or folding. KMI's business depends on these companies. It's a trickle down effect. It's not so much that KMI overextended or made bad decisions, it's just that these decisions were made for an environment that has changed atleast for the moment. If the oil industry in this country had remained the way it was two years ago or so, KMI would be sitting pretty right now.
I know government subsiding industries isn't a good thing and I'm not saying a company like KMI should be subsided. But, the oil drillers, etc.. I think this country becoming energy independent would be one of the best things we can do for ourselves. We are in a war of playing chicken right now with the middle east. If our domestic energy companies can hang in there and get some subsiding from the government so they can maintain some kind of profit margin, it will pay off big time in the future. I know the decision makers can see that.
