For starters, nobody here should have to use there ignore button. The question is; why do you people choose finance message boards for political and government discussion when there are boards for that elsewhere?
I'm an engineer, but I can't say that i've seen significant increases in coal although its not completely dead. I'm seeing quite a few power plants announce that they have plans on switching to natural gas. Crude oil trains are another story! I'm hearing that the number of crude oil trains may still increase. My view of the NS is that they are running a pretty organized operation. We are hiring inexperienced college kids to make decisions along with some trainmasters who actually came from McDonald's? Management just doesn't seem to get any better here.
retiredcsx, I've been out on the mains the past few months to see it first hand, and yes the weather without a doubt will probably take its toll on Q1. We probably set a record this winter for recrewing trains. Being that we also move freight for the other class 1's, they could also see a dent in earnings as a result. This winter has been pretty ugly all over the country.
unclelarry66 you are exactly right from a political standpoint, yet what is the United States becoming? Do the people even have a word these days? On a business standpoint, China still has some problems, but they will pass the U.S. as the largest economy in the near future. Just like computers in the early 1980's. People laughed when they were told every household would have one in the future, and it only too about 15 years for that to happen. China may always be a marxist country.
Good catch pleesed, not all chinese stocks are scam, you picked a good one! I've been keeping my eyes on the chinese solar stocks myself. TSL & YGE could both break out sometime here in the future.
They are still digging out trains in places like Chicago. Some divisions went $1 million over budget because of the bad weather. They will pay for these past few months.
Being a long time employee, I own allot of stock, even more since the split. All the employees hate this company, yet you wouldn't know anything about that being on the outside looking in. Maintain a working relationship with them? No, I go to work everyday and watch this micro-management make #$%$ of themselves, especially the ones hired off the street with no railroad experience. You think I speak allot of BS, yet you aren't employed by the company to know how screwed up things really are. Whats posted on these message boards has no reflection on the stock price, so don't even go there about being a PHONY!! Have you noticed that since the split, the pps hasn't done squat? I don't know wintoat34, but he seems to understand a little more than the guys pumping up the company to be so great.
I'm confident that they will bounce back, they always do.
Why has the past week been down on avg 500,000 volume even with a good pr? Look at the big picture, everything in the market has been red for the past week with the exception of your big name dividend stocks, and they are only up by pennies. Still looking for the bottom, but it still looks like a great buying opportunity in my opinion. To each his own though, anything can happen.
All politicians support free trade. Obama said he was gonna change it from free trade to fair trade, but it couldn't be done without an ugly trade war. Free trade isn't going away.
Agreed, they pump and bash for there own benefit. Buy & hold, ALU is a future gold mine.
j.molter54....Now they have push it to the limit. Now the ultimate goal is zero injuries, zero derailments, zero mistakes. You yourself know after all your time that it is virtually impossible, has never been done and never will be that way on any railroad. That is what the employees are dealing with now. If they follow the rules to perfection, it isn't good enough because the trainmasters must have failures or they are accused of not doing there job. If the trainmaster say "take your time, no hurry when it comes to safety", they will do so and do a great job, but the train won't get out on time. Now the trainmaster wants to accuse the crew of delaying the train. ITS A GAME!
wintoat34 is exactly right as to what goes on working for CSX, they have very unethical practices! There speech is that they want safety, 100% rules compliance, but the general managers want "failures" among those trying to comply. The bottom line is that if everyone does exactly what they want, its not good enough, its the trainmasters job to fail that employee or fire him because in reality, its all a big head game. There are trainmasters who actually admit how screwed up the game really is...lol. There isn't a person who walks on the property that loses all respect for the company within months. You have to work there to understand it.
