Land lines are going the way of film cameras. Wireless coverage is reaching places that nobody dreamed of two years ago. What is frontier? First and foremost, a wire company. They serve a shrinking niche of old people and rural customers. That is why they have poor long term prospects.
Me, I like short shorts. I do not like to hold a short position for 6 months. I pay interest and dividends (FTR dividends take a bite out of you), and every so often, when I'm out of the money, the broker calls me up and wants the shares back.
Short covering probably explains why people who waited for the dividend got less than people who took profits the day before the ex-dividend date. The pre-dividend runup was short covering, and the post-dividend decline was shorts getting back in (for less than three months, if they're thinking).
So I am not short FTR, and I wouldn't want to be. I make money in long positions on it when there is a good reason to buy and a good selling price.
