The only marketing i have received are emails from Magic Jack and Zero telemarketing calls. In fact, this is one reason I gave up my old land line. Include me in your data point also. I have owned the product since 2010.

This not manipulation any more. My basis for buying this stock and holding it for over a year was the landline biz model. For whatever reasons they have not been able to get US customers to switch. I see many more ads for basic talk and none for magic jack. i get tons of email asking me to buy mjackgo which tells me they are in bad shape. I own two mj plus, use the android app and think this is a great value. I sold the stock at a $2 profit (could have sold at more than $13 profit) when I became convinced that the core market will not grow. For whatever reasons they are unwilling to advertise it in the midwest (I did see some ads in CA in April). This is why I sold the stock.

Listen to Jeremy Siegel of the Wharton Biz School. He correctly called the Internet bubble using nothing fancier than P/E and he is the strongest advocate of this bull market and has been so since 2009. I have made my livelihood publishing in high powered academic journals and let's just say that you can come up with any conclusion to get published by inventing a new metric. If cigarette smoking causes cancer then it should be obvious in a straight correlation. Only those with a vested interest will try to confuse the issue.

This is why folks like Jeremy Siegel preaches a variation of the Occams Razor: when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better. So I use PE and not the Shiller PE or CAPE. PE was valid in 1929 as it is today. Shiller PE does not work if you look at how the economy has changed in the last 15 years. Just look at the derivative induced crisis of 1997 the mortgage mess. If you just had stocks and futures then securities can be priced with much more transparency and mortgages will be based on a debtors ability to pay. I am staying long till I see the economy overheating. That means I will wait for the second or third time the Fed raises the interest rate. I will buy the dip on the first rate hike and possibly one that is coming in late September/October when QE ends. Good Luck.

  • I have followed him from 2007. He went LONG in 2008 claiming the market is undervalued and all the other adjectives he spouts. Then he got sideswiped and slowly started preaching Armageddon. Market is high (not expensive) for a reason. Global growth is picking up. Hussman has lost all credibility with me and I cannot imagine anyone should invest in his funds. I have been buying the dips since Jan 2012 when Hussman claimed market would drop 30%. Will keep doing so till the economy really overheats.

I have two MJs and my last interaction was two months back and was very good (to get a replacement). That said I sold out of the stock early this year for a few dollars profit after holding for over one year. The product saves me a lot of money but it simply is not catching on with US customers whereas people know more about much more expensive and poor offering from Vonage and Basic Talk. I have moved on and will not get back unless I see an uptrend in the core sales.

I used to be skeptical about your posts early last year when you were really critical. It seems you were more right then than when you turned positive on this coy. I still think the core product is a tremendous value which is why held it till the last earnings (sold around $16 for a few dollars profit). However, the US customer will not buy it. This is sad.

Excellent analysis. I think the answer is they can't. I like the management but they are up against the customer expectations that you point out. One lesson I have learnt is just because I see value in something does not mean others would and vice versa.

There is ZERO chance of bankruptcy. And BTW I think this management group if quite good and I admire them for being deliberate - they may yet succeed. I just feel that the product is simply not resonating with the US customers.

I have posted my reasons elsewhere, and BTW I was long for 1.5 years. This is anecdotal but I simply cannot get folks, educated folks, to switch to this product even though I have two units and I find MJ to be tremendous value. I offered to buy this product for my brother in law (live in a different country) but he went with Vonage. I have preached this product to many of my neighbors (upper middle income Mid-Westerners) and have not got anyone to switch. My sense is that this product simply does not appeal to US customers and those that see the value have already bought in.

You are correct IMO. Unless the unit sales increase and this can only happen outside the US, the slide will resume. However, there is a possibility that it may take off in Latin America.

I got obstinate because I sold out of another heavily shorted stock called Buckle. However, that stock paid a dividend and the shorts got crushed once the earnings started coming in. The only way this stock moves is if they can get NEW US subscriber for the basic magic jack. It is such a compelling value that I fail to understand why people will not switch. However, I have told the story to many people even followed up with emails and could not get them to switch. I guess inertia is a big stumbling block. Whitney's case was also based on new US subscriber and that seems to be sorely missing. I do think the stock will recover somewhat because shorts need to cover but the story is over. I have no stakes in this. I sold a little over 15 early this year. I was thinking of buying back but after this CC I am done with this. GLT all longs.

He actually went long in 2008 when the S&P was around 950. I still remember him claiming that the market is not Undervalued and oversold. However, his timing as always was atrocious so when the final bottom cam he did not believe it and started his Armageddon tune. I almost feel sorry for this guy. He actually has a PhD but could not stay on at Michigan for long
