Right. It seems like a lot of these huge contracts get signed as a player has reached the pinnacle of their careers. Giancarlo Stanton is only 25 and seems to still be on the up swing. Playing in Florida is going to save him as much as $20M because they don't have a state income tax although he'll still have to pay in those states where they play out of town ball.

I don't have a clue about their rationale but I'm not writing the checks. It just keeps looking liking their zagging when the should be zigging.
Good news is this is the first year that Smoltz will be eligible for Cooperstown and I can't see him not getting 75%. Pitching in the same rotation with Maddux made him share the spotlight but he's the one with the Braves' strike out record. I got to know him as a neighbor where he had a vacation home. Very high quality guy who never embarrassed the teams he played on for off field activities. And he makes a decent color man as an announcer.

First, in order to keep the site monitor from scolding us, MDXG is kicking it. I'm thinking $15 to $18 exit now up from $12 to $15. I'll enjoy being wrong on the upside.

I don't know if there's a more popular player and I think he's a product of the E. Cobb League. Their rationale was weak. Something about they were avoiding free agency next year and were looking at $10M a year to keep Heyward. BJ Upton's contract is for $46M. There's talk about trading Gattis (now playing in the OF) because the have a lot of faith in Bethancourt. Hey, I've been a Cards fan since the early 60s and will be watching Heyward win some more Gold Gloves. I think Bill DeWitt is one of the best owner in MLB and the combination of his moderate payroll (never top 10) and consistent playoff performance demonstrate it. He unloaded Pujols and kept his fans happy by making a big offer that he knew wouldn't succeed.

His performance will be remembered for a long time similar to Mr. October's. I really enjoyed what I saw. Still think broadcasting earlier gets adds more eastern and Midwest audience than what is lost in MT and PT. Kind of sad that the viewership was down for such great performances. I'd look for both teams to be back in the WS soon.

My usual answer: More sellers than buyers and fortunately not that many of either. We've been on a heck of a trajectory though and I have think some of the shorts have capitulated especially ones whose rationale is "the science isn't that good" or whatever the fool posted.

It has been an entertaining series. Unfortunately, I can't stay awake past 11. I think scheduling the games at 7 EST would improve the ratings substantially.
