No bears, you've missed mine. I never said at any time that I was upset with jt, I said I was upset with the price action of a stock that everyone here seems to be in love with. Which, by the way, is one of the most fatal mistakes you can make in investing or trading. Shouldn't we all be saying how upset we are? Doesn't matter, I'm leaving this trade as I see as much downside as upside at this point and I don't get involved in trades that have that type of risk. This will struggle for a very very long time. Too many sellers above this price. If it really tanks, I might jump in for another trade but that would be in the $36 range. Not many sellers there, and it could get there. GLTA
You know what jt this is the comment that sums up this entire board. It acts like some kind of high school football team backing each other up no matter what. I am #$%$ about this price action and so should everyone else. Come on man, losing money isn't fun and with a stock that seemingly should move higher today it's getting slammed and praised at the same time. Glad I dumped some of this yesterday at mid 43's and now wish I had dumped it all. Let's not cheer this losing stock bro
Don't disagree with that at all, and right now I'm getting a little skittish so I might not add to any of my other positions for a while. I bought some C about a month ago and some AAPL after earnings but I don't see a lot of value right now. If I did add something it would probably be GILD.
nope, just saying that there are better places to be for a while bears. I'll ask you the same thing I asked jt. Should this be at $42 today or at $45 today? The market doesn't have to make sense, even if we wish it did
Everyone keeps talking about the company, I'm not, I'm talking about the stock!! They are not the same thing and while AAL may be a great company with a lot of profits the stock does not reflect that.
I never said that at all, I simply stated what did happen. And on a day where they nearly double profits from last year there is a sell off so it is certainly being ignored today. This stock should be soaring with an insane amount of tailwinds and it is rolling over. It will be sold on any nice pops, there are too many people who are fed up with this price action. I'm not trying to say anyone has made a poor decision to buy this but holding it is going to cost you the opportunity to put your money into something else. This is broken for now.
It's not a theory, growth refers to revenue, and of course there is value in growth in profits. However, this growth is mostly a result of lower oil and not because the core business is being more profitable. Investors will be scared that the oil party will be over at some point, and that some point looks like it could last a little longer than originally thought, but by that time capacity will be added and more profits from the core business will be sucked out. Let's not confuse AAL the company, with AAL the stock. The company looks great, the stock is looking awful.
This stock will definitely be sold on all pops now, it will struggle for a long time to make any kind of significant run up. Trade it if you like but as far as a long term investment you are simply missing better opportunities by staying with this one. Can anyone help me with this enormous white flag I need to put up??
blondie, there was no growth at all, none. Growth refers to revenue, not profits. Revenue was down from this quarter last year by 5%.
although low oil is good for AAL, too much lower for too much longer will not be good for stocks in general and I think that all stocks would be in danger if we see oil below $45 for too long. I've never felt the tap on the shoulder from my broker as I don't use margin, but there is an incredible amount of margin debt right now and energy is a large part of that. Margin calls can come out of nowhere and hurt all industries. I like oil about right where it is, much lower and I actually get a little nervous.
You have to be kidding me right? Her timing today, if it correlates with her sentiments has been to (buy) at todays top, (hold) as it was going down, and then to (sell/short) at todays bottom. UHHHHH?
You have to be the most useless poster on this forum mel. I mean honestly, I don't like to bash ANYONE, but you are all over the place. You have three, yes three different posts that have different sentiments today alone. First it was a strong buy, then a hold, and now a strong sell, #$%$!! You need to take your husbands money and do something better with it because this is not for you, sorry.
Well I am glad that I made the consideration this time around. There is no way to not have a flawed stock picking/trading strategy. I'm simply trying to make more good decisions than bad man. Today, in this environment it just felt right. Bought half back a few minutes ago and maybe that's a bad decision, who knows really, only time will tell. GL
So when those funds dumped all those shares, no one bought them bears?? Come on man, thats not how this works and you know it. For every seller, there's a buyer. Someone, some fund bought those shares.
...that there are a lot of people, traders, institutions, whoever bought this stock in the past three months that just want out and will sell these pops. Two separate events in a short amount of time brought major hits to the price of AAL. First, Parker blabs his mouth on Mad Money about how he will fight capacity, which is going to be the major overhang for us, and then we have the DOJ issue which was another large hit. Whoever bought this stock at levels higher than where we are currently are probably wanting out. I think this will be a roller coaster and I also think that you can make money on that coaster by trading it, but it's still a tough long. Hell, I sold half of mine a little after open today, I LUV a pop. Hoping to get that back later at a better price but it could also get away from me. GLTA
Now there's an honest response lol. And even better, probably some good advice for all of us. I'll just leave it there for today.
jt, the bottom was 38 and change recently and it seems there's no reason it can't revisit that number. I'm averaged in at just a touch above $44 and a small loss this time around wouldn't mean much as I made nice money on it's move from 47 to 55 earlier in the year. I'm just as frustrated as everyone here but listening to the same arguments just gets old and even more makes me feels like this one could easily go lower. Not that a message board or it's participants has anything to do with the price action of a stock. But considering that every tailwind that could possibly be in place and working does nothing to move this stock is alarming and it should be to you as well. GL
