hestiantcontrarian - not sure where you got "maybe I'm just sensitive to being called unoriginal". Not at all the case. I try to be as informed about a company as possible when I invest, but especially over the duration following. As you acknowledged, Willdan indicates we have Water Resources engineering capabilities, yet we don't seen to derive any revenue from that sector. Then when Brisbin plainly stated in an earning call that we will NOT get involved competing against the ‘big players’ in the CA water issue, it seemed like false advertising that we claim to have a vibrant engineering company, which according to Yahoo employs 698 full time staff, and according to other company screeners somewhere between 637 and 675. That’s not reflective of some small engineering company, even though they only have around $100 million in revenues. When it has been well known that water has long been considered the most critical commodity of the near future, why aren’t we at least in the game???
Perhaps what was more astonishing in this last earnings call was the admission: Mike Bieber, Willdan Group, Inc. - SVP-Corporate Development - "We've got only slight electrical engineering capabilities today. So, it's not specific to geography that we want to add additional electrical engineering capabilities. We need both high-end electrical engineering consulting services and detailed design services across the United States right now. The last three acquisitions were focused on mechanical engineering and now we just need to add that electrical capability."
It makes one wonder what we can actually do.
So, Brisbin doesn’t break down revenues by department for public consumption, but between saying what they won’t do, and what Bieber admitted where we are severely limited, (obviously for a long time), the EC’s explain a lot about why we are languishing at these levels with a PE of 12. Sorry to be blunt, but it seems we have a team of nearly 700 players, but very few professional

You obviously haven't seen our website. We actually are missing a HUGE opportunity limiting our services to electrical engineering, and as you might have read, we only recently developed that department. Did you actually read or listen to the conference call?

Do you actually know much about the company you are investing in? It seems not.

Agreed. It's also nice to get up off the floor in just 2 days (on fair volume) rising nearly 25% on long term estimates. The way they are blowing through SG&A is a bit concerning, but we'll see. I'm in at $5, $14 and $11 and hurting since I increased my positions exponentially with my profits plus more. "Getting ahead of itself" is a cliché, and the Fall earnings call proved it was more than a momentum shift. I believe Brisbins' words were "We just didn't execute". It was the complete failure of last falls' EC, along with Brisbins' allergy to doing any significant water infrastructure projects (as you recognize) which limits this company from far bigger horizons. The end of this week was promising on the short term, only if the continue to execute more deals. Good weekend to all.

  • WLDN finally found a motivated soul to get up off their asps and get a new contract! Now, I only wish they would focus some effort on the water issues facing California. It's a far bigger issue (and huge money maker) than gas or electric. We got a pass on this year's rainfall (thanks to El Nino), lakes and reservoirs are high, for a while, but what did anyone propose or do to replenish the aquifers? The importance of aquifers? They are natural underground water reservoirs, hence no evaporation and a natural filtration system. All the runoff to the ocean was a giant wasted opportunity that WLDN refused to even address.
Good job getting a new long term contract doing something to keep us profitable though. An extra $15 million a year for 6 years helps buy us some time and hopefully to grow a pair.

From the CC- Mike Bieber, Willdan Group, Inc. - SVP-Corporate Development - "We've got only slight electrical engineering capabilities today. So, it's not specific to geography that we want to add additional electrical engineering capabilities. We need both high-end electrical engineering consulting services and detailed design services across the United States right now. Whomever said this was an employment agency appears to have been right on the money. We basically admitted we weren't a mechanical engineering company until the last 3 acquisitions and now...we need electrical engineering expertise? What did we do in engineering before??? especially with a webpage alleging we did everything before the acquisitions? What a sham! So, bottom line of the CC was that we'll have to wait until the end of 2016 (a year from now for the report) to see if Brisbin's guesses were close? Wait, summer is right around the corner and vacation season starts soon...hold on to your money!

You are spot on! WLDN, under Brisbin's leadership is not much more than an "employment agency" assigning subcontractor engineers and sometimes leasing engineers specializing in energy conservation. You're absolutely right, without the acquisitions, this was another dismal Q by the WLDN core...again. Under Brisbin's lame and lazy leadership, we shouldn't expect anything better anytime soon.
