can anyone come up with an "intelligent " explanation as to why Amazon plunged 166 points from the high in these last few weeks ,I read the earnings call and couldn't come up with any reasons, OK they didn't beat the analysts so call set bar for earnings but the earnings really good from the last time they reported. The market is really nutsville Goog luck to longs, i trimmed my holdings today

thanks for the thumbs down, to add, I lost money today, but reduced my exposer to amazon down,by selling certain lots with less loss and rolled the money from the sales into "better" prospect stocks. With the money I reinvested I'm made about 5,600.00 from the $12,000 loss, I was originally down. Thanks to my great brother who made me sell and get into these other equities. Sorry can't disclose the equities I bought today, Good luck to the ones who are long Amazon

over sold !!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with you all the way, these "morons" who are selling everyday "are" going to make me rich someday as I keep buying the dips and dollar cost averaging, I researched and researched and researched for days on end, with reading the earnings call over and over and over again, and for me I "could not " come up with anything that suggests this brutal #$%$ woopin Amazon has endured. YES they really beat, the beat, the beat in truth!!!! Those stupid $^&& fn analysts are morons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you have any idea, WHAT THESE anilysts YES! "not incorrect spelling" YES! anilysts did to our money, did to our investments, did to our health, well being, THEY MURDERED US, and the worst thing of all is that they get paid to do this, and get away with it. ANALOGY, say Amazon is a TOP in his class world sprinter, and at the track meet the coach tells him (Amazon) to run as fast as possible and beat the time record at the finish line, so he gets ready and when told ("mark GO") he sprints off as fast as he can go, and when he crosses the finish line the coach reply's "no good!" and the sprinter says WHAT!!! I thought I ran my BEST, coach reply's "not my best !

  • These numbers shouldn't be too surprising, given the rising share of e-commerce in the retail industry and Amazon's dominance in e-commerce.

Consider that on Cyber Monday, Amazon accounted for 36.1% of all online sales, according to market research firm Slice Intelligence. The runner up, Best Buy (BBY - Get Report) , only captured 5.5%. Walmart was responsible for 3.8%, Nordstrom (JWN - Get Report) for 3.6%, and Macy's (M - Get Report) for 2.8%.

At the same time, more shoppers are opting to buy online as opposed to venturing into bricks-and-mortar stores.

The latest figures from the Census Bureau show that e-commerce sales jumped 15.1% in the third quarter compared to the same time period in 2014, and made up 7.4% of total retail sales, up from 7.2% in the second quarter.

This past week, Amazon reported fourth-quarter revenue of $35.7 billion, up 22% year over year, and earnings of $1 per share. These numbers didn't quite live up to analysts' high expectations, however -- analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were looking for Amazon to earn $1.58 a share on $36 billion in revenue.

"Nonetheless, it doesn't seem like Amazon needs to be too worried" THATS WHY I"M NOT WORRIED !.

"Everyone is freaking about Amazon and that's because Amazon has decided once again that it wants to reignite spending in order to take over the world," said Jim Cramer, portfolio manager of the Action Alerts Plus Portfolio.

Amazon spirals toward worst drop in 18 months despite bullish predictions

Shares of Amazon.com Inc. are spiraling toward their worst single-session percentage drop in 18 months after an earnings miss (http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2016/01/28/amazon-earnings-expected-to-show-record-holiday-quarter-live-blog/), but analysts remain adamantly bullish on the company and the returns it will drive for investors, with some brokerages even raising their price targets on the stock Friday.

J.P. Morgan raised its 12-month price target on Amazon (AMZN) stock to $825 from $800 with an overweight rating. Wells Fargo lifted its stock valuation range to $718 to $732 from $693 to $707 with an outperform rating. Benchmark Co. increased its target to $735 from $700, and Raymond James raised its target to $760 from $745 with a strong buy rating.

Many analysts maintained their already strong price targets, with the average rating among roughly 40 analysts surveyed by FactSet currently sitting at $746.76, which implies an improvement of more than 27% from Friday's prices. Amazon's stock fell more than 8.5% off that closing price to $581.26 in recent trading in reflection of the disappointing earnings-per-share results. Its shares are on track for their worst percentage decline (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/amazons-stock-heads-for-record-price-drop-by-a-wide-margin-2016-01-29)since July 25, 2014.

Much of analysts' enthusiasm was wrapped up in Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud-computing business that has nearly doubled over the last year. Retail sales were also strong in what was an otherwise dim holiday season, as the company sold higher-margin items like electronics.
