mark...as I understand it' the EBC has put a negative rate on funds that European banks are holding in reserve and the reason is to force banks to loan out more money...'that is very scary', when banks have to be forced to loan out money when that is their main business...the banks in Europe must really be afraid of the future default of bank loans (???)...! $tagg...!
rogers...for the record, I got my first shares of SFL (twice) when they were in a spin-off from FRO...more, 'liability of assets' is a lot different than 'liability of action'...! $tagg...!
bob...that not fair, how big is a grain of Sea Salt (???), lol, that very good (good for you)...that said, sometimes I feel that I may be one of the few that every looks at 'all the color' (key statistics) of a company...! No rose colored glasses here, but I am hitting new all time highs again today (MLPL and SFL are still doing fine)....! $tagg...!
mark...good posted message, the markets are always looking for a reason to go higher or lower, the markets never look for a reason to move sideways...in my opinion, we are in 'an investment golden age', if a company cannot leverage strong profits, at the on-going interest rates, then they have a very poor business model...fact is, that JF has become one of the richest men in the world 'on leverage' (most of his business models seems to work pretty good on leverage)...
That said, one of the biggest things hurting the U.S. economy is the export of good paying jobs (most people don't think it is a big deal until they lose their job to outsourcing)...U.S. companies spend a lot of funds building plants in other countries and then do not return the profits because they don't want to pays taxes on
them...! I don't think the U.S. economy is getting much better, it just not getting any worst...! $tagg...!
Board members...I posted a message some time back about VLCCF (yield about 6%) and how good it was doing, the problem is that I let several board members talk me out of buying it (as it is still on the fast track), VLCCF is now up 68% YTD in Total Returns...that said, MLPL, AWLCF,SFL and DVHL are still doing fine and LINE is starting a nice come back...has anybody notice the P/E ratio on SDRL (???), SDRL is down today but could probably do an easy double in share price in the future (P/E ratio on SDRL is now 3.5) ...! $tagg...!
guru...TICC 'looks really good' as it has a nice yield, great color, strong drivers and probably a good forward outlook....however, it may be wise not to buy any BDC's until after the end of June because of a lot of them being dropped from the Russell Index by the end of this month (???)...! $tagg...!
k-bon...you are correct, SFL also gets 'enhanced profit sharing' from FRO for giving them a price break on lease rates (SFL already gets a lot of the profit without the liability)...! $tagg...!
Board members...MLPL (yield at least 8.5%) is still running hot...in Total Returns MLPL is up 258% over the last 5 years, 163% over the last 3 years and 21% YTD...MLPL is my second leading portfolio gainer behind SFL (and my leading short term gainer)...
AWLCF (yield about 20% after fees) is also still running strong as it is up 17% YTD in Total Returns...its really sweet when high yield holdings are showing strong capital gains...! Another mover is VLCCF (yield about 6%), VLCCF is not in my current holding, but I wish it was, as it is now up 52% YTD in Total Returns...! $tagg...!
Board members...SDRL is always moving forward 'with more good deals cooking', I expect to hear more good news in the future on NADL and SeaMex...what is SDRL doing that we do not know about yet (???)....! $tagg...!
runner...I don't think that NADL will move any rigs out of the North Atlantic...NADL is 70% owned by SDRL, and SDRL has plenty of new rigs already under construction...I think that NADL will buy or lease more rigs to meet future demand...we still don't know how this deal will work, will NADL issue more shares to Rosneft or will Rosneft buy into current shares (???)...I also feel that the deal is a bit of a monopoly in Russia with Rosnenef, NADL and SDRL..!
The Pro's are saying that demand for off-shore drilling rigs will slow down in 2015, I disagree because NADL and SeaMex (a start-up off-shore drilling company that is also owned by SDRL) will both need more off-shore drilling rigs in the future...! I don't think the deal with Rosneft will have any effect on AWLCF (but it will have a 'major effect' on NADL and SDRL)...! $tagg...!
sarge and board members...we had such a long nasty winter and a cool wet spring that it had a lot of people and investors were in a bad mood...as the weather starting getting better people started to cheer up and I think that helped the markets some, therefore, 'No Sell in May and Go Away'...
It is possible that the markets will move sideways until we get a 'Mid-Summer Rally' around July and then after that we could get a terrible market correction around Bloody October (???)...that said, this is a pretty sweet ride and I am now up about 8.8% in Total Returns YTD...
So far, I have been wrong about grain prices as they have not move up any...a lot of farmers, including myself, had to 'replant most of the early planted corn' because of the cool and wet weather (the seed rots in the ground)....yet corn prices have not increased any yet, I find that a bit strange (???)...! I also find it a bit strange that SFL and SDRL have not 'increased more' on very good earnings and a nice forward outlook (???)...! $tagg...!
sarge...I read the downgrade and they say SDRL will have a hard time leasing out drilling rigs in 2015...I disagree, because several drilling rigs can be moved (sold or released) to SeaMex and NADL...to be honest, it looks like SDRL 'may not have enough drilling rigs available' to cover future demand from their associates....
The fact is, that NADL and SeaMex are both going to need more drilling rigs as they move their business forward...investors need to remember, that SDRL is a basket of many off-shore drilling companies...! How can NADL move forward and SDRL not profit from it (???), because SDRL owns 70%
of NADL....! $tagg...!
gambler...please go to the NYMT website and and check out their 'Investment Strategy' (to much for me to type, but they do have a lot of adjustable mortgages)...I also feel that TWO and NRZ offer some protection from higher interest rates because of their mortgage serving rights (MSR's)...! $tagg...!
Board members...I added more PSEC (yield about 13.% and pays monthly) today and I also started a position in CEFL (yield may be about 18% and it pays monthly), CEFL is a basket of income holdings and is double leveraged (2X)...not sure (???) if DHVL (yield about 14% and pays monthly) or CEFL is best so I am buying/holding both of them, lol...! The fact is, I love monthly dividends (I still plan to add more BDC's when I have available funds)...! $tagg...!
Board members...NYMT (yield about 13.7%) don't get much attention but it is a long term winner...NYMT is up 32% over last 12 months, 56% over the last 3 years and 170% over the last 5 years in Total Returns...one reason that it is not noticed much is because its share price increases very slow and steady....
That said, the share price of SDRL is reflecting the good news but for some reason SFL is not, maybe the forward outlook was already baked in the the share price of SFL (???)...NADL is up very strong again today and I wonder how Rosneft will take a major interest in NADL, will they buy into current shares or will NADL issue more shares for them (???)...fact is, that the deal between NADL and Rosneft sort of looks like a off and on-shore drilling monopoly in Russia...! $tagg...!
mark..."puzzled by today's action" (you hit the nail on the head)...I thought that we would get more of a on-going pop on SFL and SDRL because the earnings and the forward outlooks were very strong...are the markets looking for a reason to pull-back and cannot find one (???)...
guru...I will check out TCAP as all of your tips in the past have been very good...the Russel Index will create a bit of a problem, but it will not change the performance of good holdings (should only weaken the share price for a while)...! $tagg...!
Board members...I feel that PSEC, BDCL and HTGC are all strong buys here and now...today, I sold the rest of my WMC (for a small profit) and may start a position in CEFL (yield about 18%) and then start adding more to my BDC's...all of my current holdings have reported strong earnings and the future in them is still looking bright...it looks like there will be some profit taking and then the markets will start moving a bit higher...! However, the higher the markets move, the more chance of a future correction (the big question is when, ???)...! $tagg..!
k-bon...I agree that the Keystone pipeline will eventually be built...however, I feel that our government is using the environmental issue 'as an excuse' to stop or delay it, because it will benefit Canada and not the U.S.,...
I could be wrong (???), but I think the Keystone pipeline will increase the price that we pay for our fuel (and lower the price of U.S. oil) because the U.S. refineries are already running at about full capacity...it is obvious that they want to run it to the major refineries on the Gulf Coast (it cheaper to export a finished product than crude oil)...! $tagg...!
Board members...investors need to remember that SFL was a spin-off from FRO (two different times as FRO and SFL were the same company) and those two spin-offs reduced the liability of a down turn in the tanker industry on SFL...! $tagg...!
sarge...thanks for posting the outstanding results on SDRL....I would like to add that SDRL has given 'a very good forward outlook on their current business' and a small dividend increase will probably ease fears of a dividend reduction...SDRL seems to keep coming out with 'more surprises' and in the future I expect to hear some good news on SeaMex...I also feel that some debt reduction with a dividend increase is a very good sign going forward..! Both SFL and SDRL continue to shine bright...! $tagg...!
