What is the current opinion on SFL & SDRL.

    by rogers2308 Apr 22, 2014 1:27 PM

rogers...I feel that both SFL and SDRL will shine bright later on this year...I like SFL the best because they should show a strong increase in revenue from more ships out on lease and an increase in revenue from another off-shore drilling rig that just went into, there will probably be a lot of profit sharing later on (quite a bit from FRO)...

SDRL in my opinion is having some 'short term growing pains' but will also shine later on this year (maybe not as bright as SFL) opinion, is that SDRL is growing very fast (almost to fast, ???) as it is now a basket of different off-shore leased out drilling rigs (which lowers their liability)...SeaMex should show strong growth as it is tied to may also want to take a look at AWLCF (yield about 22% after fees)...a lot of investors feel it is high risk because they only have two off-shore drilling rigs...however, there is still a good risk vs reward factor, in my opinion...

SFL, SDRL and AWLCF are all core holdings of mine with SFL and SDRL being the largest...! Good luck on
    your selections...! $tagg...!

Merging of FRO 2012 and VLCCF

Board we know why VLCCF has been going up in share price lately and as it is up about 11% at this time today...I had mentioned before that VLCCF had been making 'a steady moving up' in share price, but I was not smart enough to know the reason (???)...! $tagg...!

    sdrl buyback

k-bon..I still cannot find that information (good for you, thanks)...I guess the management of SDRL now feel the stock is very over sold...that said, I am selling 'most of my WMC stock today' because first, I bought another truck (F-150 4x4, repo) and I also need addition funds for farming...i.e. it cost over $500 an acre to grow corn (plant, harvest and haul to market) plus, it takes a lot of chemical to grow soybeans...

The reason that I am selling WMC is that I expect it to have the lowest Total Return performance, in the future, of any of my current holdings...I have some corn already planted but most areas are still to wet to plant...Corn has been moving up in price and it is now $5.26 a bu. and soybeans are $14.84 (cash price across the scales)...

My opinion, is that corn (CORN, GRU and DBA) will continue upward to about $5.60 a bu. by August and soybeans prices will stay steady...I also feel the silver (SLV) may be a buy right here and now...! Thanks for the update as SDRL is now making a move upward...! $tagg...!

Merging of FRO 2012 and VLCCF

jersey...My opinion, is that the merger will probably have little effect on SFL... fact is, 'it may help' because they may lease 'some more ships' from SFL (JF will probably keep the business in the family)...More, I don't think that FRO is going bankrupt because some shipping rates have started to, FRO is 'not as large a footprint' in SFL as they were at one time, and investors need to remember that the leases 'do run out at some point in time' anyway...on a FRO default, SFL would probably get a lot of their invested funds back on scrap, release or the sale of the ships (because they still own them)...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...TD Ameritrade e-mailed out an article today about interest rates 'creeping higher' and five ways to protect ourselves;

First, is 'Dividend Divide' out stocks that pay nice dividends and are increasing them...

Second, is 'Selective Bonds'...high yield, junk bonds and tax free municipal bonds....

Third, is 'Land Grab'...high yield REITs in commercial properties...

Fourth, is 'Starter Homes'...companies that own pools of government backed homes loans and pass the interest and principal payments on to the investors...

Fifth, is 'Piece Of The Pipeline'...which is invest in MLP oil and natural gas pipelines...

For a bonus idea, they suggest investing in 'business development companies'...TD Ameritrade give BDC's very high marks for future protection...

That said, even though I invest pretty much like that at this time...the contents of this message was copied from an e-mail that I received from TD Ameritrade...! Just something to think about...! $tagg...!

mark...this time, I agree with you 100%...also, not to sound stupid, but I don't really understand number four (the part about passing principal back to the investor, ???)...also, I agree that number two don't seem to make sense (I hope somebody else that has an TD Ameritrade account will correct me on this if I posted any of it wrong)...! Thanks for the input...! $tagg...!

susan...STAG (yield about 5.1% and pays monthly) is my second leading holding in Total Returns (SFL is first)...STAG is up 19.1% YTD in Total Returns (at this time)...I bought STAG 'because of the name' and I am will pleased with it (STAG is now one of my core holdings)...

At this time, my average weighted yield on investments is 12.8% a year and I am now up about 8% YTD in Total Returns in my 'home message boards' are SFL and AMNB because everybody on them is about investing and there is no dirty name calling, religion or politics...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...I said in a previous message that corn prices may hit about $5.60 a bu. by August and I now feel corn prices may go to about $6.00 a bu. bu August....corn starts losing yield if it is planted after 05/01/14 and will lose about a bu. a day per acre if planted after 05/10/14 because of photosynthesis (that is the available amount of sunlight in a growing season to produce a good corn crop)....

Beef prices are also increasing and a calf that weights 500 lb. now sells for $1,000.00 and that is unreal (I don't raise cattle, but I have farmer friends that do)...corn prices are increasing because of the planting delays caused by wet weather in the U.S. and problems related to the Ukraine (that is the bread basket growing region of Europe) this time I strongly feel we could see an increase in corn prices by 70 cents a bu. by August...

I have half of my corn planted but most farmers 'have none planted' and some of them may switch to soybeans (which can be planted without yield loss to about the middle of June)...I feel fertilizer prices may remain weak while corn prices slowly increase...a good way to play this is CORN GRU and DBA...if it stop raining now it will be about two weeks before farmers can start planting again...! Never trust my data or opin
ions, but it is something to think about...! $tagg...!

staggman99 staggman99 Apr 28, 2014 12:00 PM Flag oldest son had a lot of bad luck with BAC as it always seems to always have 'another bad issue'...I think he sold it and moved on (he will not talk to me about it, ???) is looking like more of a tech. day in the markets (as a lot of tech. stocks have also taken a beat down in the past)...! Keep the faith, the best is yet to come (it always does)...! $tagg...!

staggman99 staggman99 Apr 28, 2014 2:31 PM Flag is unusual for people to get several thumbs down 'on this message board'...I suspect after check out some of your previous messages from other message boards that you have some stalkers 'giving all of your messages a thumbs down' regardless of where the messages are and what you are saying...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...ed mention ARLP (yield about 5.7%) in a previous message and he is correct about it...ARLP is having a 2 for 1 stock split after just 'reporting record earnings' and increasing the dividend...ARLP is up 18.9% YTD in Total Returns and is a bright spot in the coal industry...

We have talked about ARLP before as it is the company 'that has bought my coal rights' in Hamilton county Illinois...the 'White Oak coal mine' will soon be adding even more profits in the future...a lot of coal, oil and natural gas companies have been struggling in the past year, but ARLP seen to be 'on top of the game' at this time (the stock was up about 4% yesterday)...! $tagg...!

o/t SDRL ok news worth the read-on SA

    staggman99 staggman99 Apr 30, 2014 11:02 AM Flag

sarge and board article by the Montley Fool 'that just came out' says just the opposite about SDRL...SDRL has very strong color...i.e. a profit margin of 53% and a return on equity of 39%...the level of debt is not a factor when it is income producing...i.e. the national debt of the U.S. 'is not income producing' because it does not march up the the growth of our domestic product, if the domestic product was growing faster than the national debt it would not be a problem...

Again, the outstanding debt of SDRL 'is income producing' and it is pushing SDRL's forward growth ahead at an outstanding rate...a company can be debt free an go bankrupt because they do not have enough cash flow...more, all oil and natural gas wells have 'a limited life span' and drilling must continue and, 'the world is using more oil' all the time...SDRL is on the fast track as a leading off-shore drilling company and without the debt they would be on the 'no track' (in the future we will hear good news on SeaMex and other partners)...! Trust me on this,lol...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...JF is outstanding at making good investments and I think he may be on to something with VLCCF (yield about 5.6%) as it has been making a steady move upward in share price....VLCCF has merged with Frontline 2012 and has become one of the largest dry bulk shipping companies in the world...

I would like to hear some opinions on this, as this could still be a good entry point (???)...! Good luck to all as this market still seems to be running on strong legs...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...we all like to post stocks that we own that are doing good and one of mine is AWLCF (yield about 21% after fees)...AWLCF is an off-shore driller that is up 11.4% YTD in Total Returns and I am well pleased with it...I also want to mention ARLP again as it is also still running hot...ARLP (yield about 5.7%) is a very fast growing coal company that has increased the distribution and is having a 2 for 1 stock split...ARLP 'is not in my current holdings' but it is up 22.6% YTD in Total Returns (and they just turned in good earnings)...! $tagg...!
