k-bon...thanks for the dates as I could not find them (good for all of us)...it looks like SFL (yield about 19.5%) still has strong color and is good shape going forward...! $tagg...!

SDRL and OIL in FREE FALL

    by lakeed98 Nov 4, 2014 8:19 AM

Board members...some investors are having a field day bashing other investors that were holding SDRL and NADL...however, some people always like to bash the losers and but tend to ignore their winning stocks...here are some facts:

First, younger investors seek growth and a lot of older investors seek higher yields to supplement their income...

Second, some people like to rub it in if an investors takes a hard hit, but they get mad when others make a nice profit...

Third, I was wrong about SDRL and NADL (at this point in time), but I have been right on a lot of other stocks...

Fourth, I was surprised that SDRL and NADL have stopped the dividend...I am also surprise how well ADM, BDCL, SFL, NYMT, AI, WMC, MLPL, BDCL, SFL and several other of my 'high yield holdings' are doing...

That said, I always post my 'winners and losers' because I am a honest man, what good is a message board if we all just post BS (???)...! Has anybody check out BDCL (yield about 16.7%) ???, its another sweetheart for high yields...I $tagg...!

respectful...SFL is leasing out five off-shore drilling rigs (three jack-ups and two ultra deep water rigs) and if they lost the revenue from them it would have 'a very bad effect' on SFL's earnings...I try to find the 'end dates on the current leases' and was unsuccessful...! $tagg...!

k-bon...good posted message, it looks to me like the dividend reductions on SDRL could reduce SDRL's debt by about 25% in one year and the dividend reduction on NADL could reduce the debt on NADL by about 30% in one year...these two companies are still showing decent profits and the 'addition working cash flow' could move them forward in the future (maybe a year to 18 months)...! Correct my math if necessary...! $tagg...!

Board members...while it is true that I lose some dividends...the fact is, that I still have a lot of high yields to dollar cost average with...high yields give us 'a lot of slack' to play with and now is the time 'to take advantage' of that slack...the yields on my portfolio (without SDRL and NADL) have now dropped by about 2% to about 13.7%...! Buying stocks with low yields is like trying to grow corn without fertilizer (your hoping something good will happen)...! $tagg...!

gambler...I am a long way from the poor house...however, a lot of investors said the same thing about SFL back when it crashed and I more than doubled my money (later on)...more, I post all of my buys and sells...plus, I list my current holdings....I am not the only investor taking a beat down in the off-shore drillers and I am not the only investor still making a lot of profit in other places...has anybody checked out MLPL, ADM, NYMT, AI, WMC or DVHL lately (???)...! I just don't think that school is out yet...! $tagg...!

ed...cheer up, the fact is that you are one of the sharpest investors on this message board...myself, all of my holdings are still doing fine except for the off-shore drillers...therefore, our over-all investment package is pretty good...

ed, we cannot walk on water, but we can still swim real good and I am not done yet, lol...we both have several holdings that are still running the fast track and that is why we diversify...

I was also taking a beat down on corn prices and then I started hauling the rest of my corn crop to river port in southern Illinois and got 80 cents a bu. more...we can always do something different in the future for better profits...! Keep the faith as we are not near done yet...! $tagg...!

Board members...I am about even on my AWLCF (yield now about 37%) and they have not stopped paying their dividend (why would I sell, ???)...I am still a high yield player and will will use my future dividends to go shopping for value...I am sure that some investors on this message board have loss a lot of funds that were invested in oil (I was not one of them)...! How can an investor dollar cost average on their investments with high yields if they do not have any (???)...! Keep the faith as the best is yet to come...! $tagg...!

Board members...I am back from the yearly family deer hunt, everybody got a nice deer (bucks) except me, I hurt my back 'really bad and' I cannot hardly even walk (I just got back from the Doctor and I am wearing a back brace)...that said, at this time, I am busy eating crow today because of SDRL and NADL...

On the plus side, I really didn't think that the earnings on SDRL and NADL looked all that bad as they are both still showing less, but still strong profits...I hate to take a haircut on the dividends and I was surprise that they did not just reduce them some...I also know that the markets always over correct (high or low) and I feel that is the current case with SDRL and NADL...

My dividends on my core holdings are now 13.3% and there were about 15.6%....I am not adding any SDRL or NADL yet, but I probably will in the future after they stop dropping in share price...I also feel that the drilling market will turn around and when it does these holdings will go back up faster than they crashed...all of my other holdings are still on the fast track and I am lucky 'to not have had' any more investments related to oil (except for MLPL and it is still doing fine)...! This is the game we play and it is not over yet...! $tagg...!

ed...most of the time (not always), "So Goes January, So Goes The Year" and that is why I always do most of my 'yearly portfolio tune ups' at the end of January (it really helps get a grip on the whole investment year)...! Just something to think about...! $tagg...!

Board members...this is so funny, I don't think another automaker will come out with an aluminum body truck in the next 18 months (and that is the time frame that I posted on Ford stock)...second, some of the Pro's predict that Ford stock will increase by 30% over the next year...third, Ford is not one of my core holdings as I only have 100 shares (I may add more, lol)...

More, APPLE is not for me...however, it was on CNBC a while ago that several analyst have just increased their price target on it and 'that is a good sign'...that said, I don't expect everybody to agree with me because for every buyer there is always a seller...! If we were all 'at the top of the game' we would have all owned Netflix (NFLX) over the last four years...I not breaking the bank, as I am only up about 6% YTD...but, I am keeping the faith as the year is not over yet...! $tagg...!

rogers...I like the yield on NAO (about 12.7%) but the color (key statistics) are a bit weak....however, the color on these type of companies can change very quick...that said, I think that bob hit the nail on the head pretty good on NAO...! $tagg...!

sarge...a lot of people think that I am a high risk investor, but I am afraid of APPLE, because of the low yield and if somebody come out with a better mousetrap there will be no making the money back...that said, I put a strong buy on YHOO and SFL as they both should continue to shine...

I also think that SDRL and NADL are over sold and I will continue to buy more of each on any more strong retreats in their share prices...that said, this is another nice day in the markets for me (except for AWLCF)...! $tagg...!

bud...good point., I must have had a brain cloud yesterday...myself, I think that SFL looks great under 16 and even looks good under 18 going forward...SFL is my third leading portfolio leader, NYMT is second and MLPL is my first...! $tagg...!

gebenhoeh...I would avoid FRO (no yield and bad color) and maybe buy VLCCF (yield about 11%) if you want to get into shipping or why not just buy SFL (yield about 9.8%) ???...! $tagg...!

    staggman99 staggman99 Nov 19, 2014 3:22 PM Flag

k-bon...I checked back to 9/24/14 and I posted a lot of messages on NADL (maybe seven or eight) and several times I stated I like NADL 'without the Rosneft deal'...I have never thought that the Rosneft deal was all that good because of the 150 land based drilling rigs that NADL will lease back to Rosneft...I also stated 'one time' that it may be better with the Rosneft deal, but that was not my reason for buying it...

Having worked in the oil fields I know it is almost impossible to move heavy equipment when the ground is freezing and thawing (when equipment freezes in the ground that is pretty much it, until warmer weather)...the land based drilling rigs would probably not run over six months a year in Russia...

I bought more NADL today, but my buy was not based on NADL giving the Russians some of the company for a lot of beat up on-shore drilling rigs...! I also see your point about the West Rigel...but who says that Rosneft has to be the one to lease it (???)...! $tagg...!

rogers...I, for one, never did buy NADL based on the pending Rosneft deal...I am wrong sometimes, but I feel NADL has 'strong color' without the Rosneft deal...that said, it is obvious that other investors do not agree with me or the stock would not be crashing...NADL, CEFL DVHL, ADM and F are not my core holdings so I cannot really lose a lot of funds on them...! Always, keep the faith as the best is yet to come...! $tagg...!

  • Board members... MLPL (yield about 8.3%) is now up 40.75 YTD....MLPL is my only holding showing decent gains today....NADL (yield now over 31%) is doing terrible, but is starting to make up some of it loses in the last hour...I will probably still add more NADL (not sure when, ???)...! $tagg...!

rogers...if the share price keeps dropping it will soon be free...I stated to add more this morning and now it has dropped over 60 cents a share more...I may still add some as it is not a core holding anyway...! Dollar cost averaging will not always made us money but it will 'help us lose less', lol...! $tagg...!
