sarge..thanks for an outstanding post that hits the nail right on top of the head...the article mentions Mexico and I feel that is very important because Mexico will be one of the future drivers for more off-shore drilling rigs...my opinion is, that a lot of the 'so called Pro's' get paid (one way or another) for pumping different companies (and SDRL is not one of them)...again, I cannot believe how many new deals that SDRL has cooking all of the time (and new the deals are always great for the shareholders)...! Thanks again for an outstanding posted message, as it is good for all of us...! $tagg...!
energy...if FRO would file to re-org or go BK it would not change anything...SFL would retreat some in share price for a 'very short term' until investor realized it did not make much difference...first, SFl owns the ships and can release, sell or scrap them out...second, investors need to remember that soon or later all of the leases between SFL and FRO expire anyway...third, FRO is no long the major foot print of business with SFL that it was at one time and the longer 'the lease calender runs', the less effect is will have...! Don't forget that Frontline 2012 has already merged with VLCCF...! $tagg...!
k-bon...at this time, I am up 16.6% YTD in Total Returns in my portfolios...if I was smart I would go to the sidelines now...However, I am 'to stupid and greedy' to do that, lol...if we do not get a real bad Bloody October and if we get a decent Santa Clause Rally this could be (???) an outstanding invested year for me...! Your wisdom is wonderful, keep the faith and keep up the good work...! $tagg...!
Board members...MLPL is now my leading portfolio gainer followed 'in order' by SFL, NYMT, AWLCF, STAG, DVHL, SDRL and AI (these are not Total Returns)...I also like to take a bit of risk for 'a little more profit' and because of that, at this time, I am now liking WMC and NADL a lot more...
I like the yield on WMC and in my opinion NADL is a fine company even without the Rosneft deal...I know all about the sanctions, but Europe and the rest of the world still needs Russian oil and natural gas (now and in the future)...'they' will probably find a way to work around the sanctions (greed and need, always wins)...
PSEC is 'my worst performer', however, I am still 'in the money with it' on Total Returns and I will add more to PSEC at some point in the future (high yields really help)...! This is 'another fine day' in the markets (for me) and I am well pleased (I am also concerned about where we are headed after Labor day, ???)...! $tagg...!
sarge...I don't know how I keep making a lot of profit in the markets because I am making so many mistakes 'on data' lately (sometimes, I get the dates mixed up)...however, I drive by the new VLO ethanol plant several times a week and the Southwind River Port is right next to it on the Ohio River (in Mt. Vernon, Indiana)...the question is not if investors like ethanol...the question is if they like to show a nice profit on their holdings...fact is, all ethanol plants 'will shine with profit' for at least the next 18 months because of 'very low' corn prices (VLO, PEIX, ADM and etc.)...! $tagg...!
mark..#$%$, you are correct (I got it backward, shame on me)...and now Mr. Market is running the stock higher again...however, the report still did not look that bad...why is another 85 million dollars excluded from earnings (do I have this wrong also, ???)...I hope me posting this message does not run the price down again, lol...! $tagg...!
Board members...VLO (yield about 2.2%, very poor) now has outstanding color and is on the fast track...VLO has now restarted an ethanol plant in Mount Vernon, Indiana (that they bought very cheap)...they also received $600,000.00 in tax credits plus other benefits from the state and local governments...
VLO is the tenth largest company in the U.S. and the Mount Vernon plant is the 11th corn ethanol plant that VLO has with an annual production of 110 million gallons...VLO now has over 1.3 billion gallons of ethanol production...the plant is on the Ohio River and has outstanding barge, rail and truck transportation...
That said, be aware that corn 'is now very cheap' and will continue to be cheap for at lest the next 18 months...the current price of ethanol is $2.16 a gallon and the current price of GMO corn is about $3.60 a bu....one bu. of corn at this plant will produce about 2.5 gallons of ethanol (plus, tailings which are sold as high protein animal feed)...
When the worst an investor can do is 'break even or make money' a stock is a good buy...VLO is now on the fast track to profits and it is now up 9.6% YTD in Total Returns and should continue to do a lot better because of low current corn prices (ethaol production is now very hot)...! $tagg...!
Board members...jerry is correct bout the yields on SDT and WMC...however, SDT is down -38% YTD in Total Returns and WMC is up 9.6% YTD in Total Returns...I am not to worried about WMC (I have made a nice profit on WMC), but if an investor would hold SDT, I suggest they put 'some tight stop loss orders' on it...! Good luck to all...! $tagg...!
Board members...It looks like SDRL was over-sold in the last couple of days...plus, Mexico is 'hurting for more revenue from off-shore oil'...I think we will see a lot more drilling off-shore by private companies in Mexico and I feel SDRL 'will benefit from it' as they have an on-going stream of modern rigs available...! $tagg...!
Board members...it looks to me like SFL's net earnings have almost doubled from the previous quarter, from 24 cents a share to 44 cents a share...I do not understand why another 85 million dollars was excluded from earnings (I guess they are non-taxable earnings)...over-all I think the report is very strong, but at this time it looks like the market don't like it or understand it (???)....! Stagg...!
victor...check out CEFL (yield about 18% and pays monthly)...CEFL is a doubled leverage stock (2x) and you get twice the profit or loss on the same amount of invested funds (the yields vary from month to month, they pay as they receive)...PSEC (yield almost 13% and pays monthly) is another nice holding and this is probably a good entry point....DVHL (yield about 14% and pays monthly) is another doubled leverage stock (2x) and the payouts vary from month to month...NYMT (yield about 14%) and BDCL (yield about 16%) are more sweethearts (compound returns always win)...! The SFL and AMNB message boards are 'all about investing', no name calling, no religion or politics...! The SFL message board 'got so popular' that the AMNB message board was created to help with the investment traffic...! $tagg...!
bob...I think your buy on SDRL is a good move...myself, I am waiting for a bit of a lower price and I may have missed my chance (???)...that said, I also think that that NADL is another decent buy right now...NADL earnings were not to bad (down about 38 million for six months from 2013, but there is a lot more to the whole story)...NADL is a good stock 'right now' and if the Rosneft deal does not fall through 'it will be a lot better'...again, nobody always hits the highs or lows in the markets, but it is not to hard to make some profit in the middle...! That said, MY MLPL is still a hard charger (it never seems to leave the fast track very long)...! $tagg...!
sarge...yes, PSEC is still on sale...I will add more PSEC if the yield gets much over 13% and the yield is now at about 12.8%...SDRL has already bounced off of its lows for the day...I will add more SDRL if the yield ever gets much over 12% ( the yield on SDRL is now about10.8%)...! $tagg...!
william...if SDRL has to stack more rigs coming off of contract in the next few months, I will just have to grow more corn (its that simple)...for the record, I ate cornflakes for breakfast, I run E-85 gas in my flex fuel Ford truck, I drink bourbon whiskey made from corn (Jim Beam Black), I will have a helping of sweet corn for supper and will eat popcorn while I watch TV tonight...! American grown corn 'will save the world' and it may even help SDRL as I invest more of my corn profits into it...! $tagg...!
sarge..thanks for the posted message...my take is that nothing much has really changed with SDRL at this time and this may be a chance to buy more higher yielding shares on the cheap...my current opinion is, that SDRL will continue to pay a very nice dividend and SDRL always has a lot of good deals cooking (no fear here)...! If there is a strong share price pull back I will add more (even if i have to sell something else to do it)...! I still have 'strong faith' in SDRL and I don't mind getting paid very good to wait...! $tagg...!
Board members...I found where bob says SDRL beat by 50 a share...but it is also a bit confusing (???)...I also made 'another mistake' because it looks like earnings were down by 2 million dollars from last year and not 3 million...! Maybe, I need to wait another quarter before I eat crow, lol....! $tagg..!
bob...I cannot find where SDRL beat by 50 cents a share (???)....it looks to me like SDRL came in 22 million dollars below estimates and 3 million dollars below a year ago...I am not saying your are wrong, as I have a long history of making mistakes (when it comes to data)...I hope you are correct because I don't really want to eat crow, lol...! $tagg...!
Board members... I said that I would eat crow if SDRL did not have good earnings this quarter...I guess I will have to eat some crow (but not a lot) because earnings are 'just about the same'...SDRL has stated they 'are not ordering' more drilling rigs at this time (they don't have to order more because they already have 18 on order)...'just about the same' is not really that bad, its just not real good...
I don't feel the earning miss is that bad, but I am not Mr. Market, and market conditions will prevail...I have taken some profit on both of my SDRL and SFL holdings and now I can see myself probably buying some SDRL share back again (the current yield can go a lot higher on a share price pull-back)...the fact is, we still get paid very good to wait for better results in the future...! I also want to add that SDRL has so many 'good deals cooking' that it is getting hard to keep track of all of them...! O.K. lets hear some opinions from the home crowd, lol...! $tagg...!
k-bon...The Street 'put a sell rating' on SDLP, I read it and I don't much agree with with it...a lot of the same old story (to much debt)...in my opinion, debt 'is an asset' when it is income producing (more debt equals more income)...I feel that SDLP has 'very good color'...i.e. return on assets is 7.6%, return on equity is 26.6% and the profit margin is 12.5%...the earning growth is down -36.6% YOY because of adding more off-shore drilling rigs and a 28% interest in Seadrill Operating L.P. (short term growing pains)...! $tagg...!
