    CHECKING OUT PER...!

mark...I do not own PER, as I just check it out on my watch list (I don't have any energy holdings at all, at this time)...they say "So goes January, so goes the year" (is today a warning sign for 2016, ???)...I still believe we will get a strong rally, I just wonder when it will happen (???)...

I still see bargains everywhere...I also have to wonder which ones are 'sucker traps', lol...! I now only have four core holdings (NRZ, PSEC, BDCL and SFL), out of a total of 10 holdings in my portfolios...I may add more NRZ and NYMT next...! Stagg...!

pmblass...you ask a good question...some of the oil is being stored in un-used oil tankers at sea and a lot of it is going to China to be stored in their 'growing strategic oil reserve'...I also have to wonder how China can keep buying all this oil with their current poor economy...

More, I have read that Russia's oil exports have increased by 7% in 2015, which is good for oil tankers because of 'the longer distance' it is hauled vs Saudi Arabia to China...! I also agree that eventually oil producers may have to turn some production off (I bet its getting close)...! Stagg...!

    2016 plan

Board members...after a final tally, it looks like I finished the year down about -18% (first, I though it was less, but then I remembered that I added more funds in some accounts)...I did have a good December or it would have been worst...and NMM was the one that really put the hurt on my Total Returns in 2015...I did get a major leak fixed in the dam in one of my lakes, now if I can just stop my investments from leaking...

That said, this may be another rough year...i.e. I will have eye surgery twice, my F-150 4x4 truck is using oil (but is still on warranty, if they don't play games with me, ???), the markets seem to headed for a bad start in the New Year and who knows what other surprises are in store for us...however, the latest score on the on-going family deer hunt is Stagg family nine (deer), but nothing to really brag about...! My last portfolio tune-up seems to be working, so maybe things will get better (???)...! Stagg...!

william...while I agree that you could be correct, it is important to not follow the herd mentality...most investors always seem to forget that the markets and stocks always over correct (they go to high or to low)...

I am wrong a lot (but not always)...I sold LINE (at $37.67), EVEP ($53.34) and FRO (at about $56.00) for great profits while other investors were still buying and said I was wrong...I also bought a lot of farmland several years ago at tax sales, when I was the only person to show up for the sale (this is a fact)...

Myself, I don't walk on water, but the top always has a top and the bottom always has a bottom and I
usually made more off the bottom than the top...more, on the SFL message board an investor said I was wrong about the number of active drilling rigs decreasing and he was right about the weekly total, but very wrong on the yearly total (as they are down over 800 on the year in the U.S.)...! I think that we will see the 'real price of oil' after the IRAN export thing comes to pass and things could get
very interesting at that time...! Stagg...!

Board members...I do not have any energy holdings at this time...however, I think that PER is a bit interesting because of its current over-all color...PER (current yield now about 33%) as been beaten down very bad (share price wise), but still has a decent cash flow going 'based on strong fundamentals'...i.e. yield now about 33% 'after' a 50% reduction, p/e is 1.5, ROA is 26%, ROI is 30.8%, ROE is 26%, Gross margin is 96.1%, Operating margin is 92.8% and profit margin is 92.8% with a target price of $5.00 a share...

My opinion is, that PER could be a decent risk vs reward type of play...if oil prices increase some, it could reward very well (???) and if oil prices go lower, PER should maintain its current cash flow...! Myself, I see a lot less risk in PER than a lot of the popular MLP's that some investors are currently holding...just something else to think about...! Stagg...!

    NAT

sarge...I do not hold it, but I feel NAT (yield about 10.5%) is a fine stocks to have...however, I am placing my bets on FRO (yield about 6.8%) because as oil tankers are doing good, I feel FRO will shine brighter in the future (I should probably own both, ???)...! Stagg...!

sarge...some high yield stocks will do fine in 2016 and other probably not...my opinion is, that most of the BDC's will 'slowly shine brighter' and most of the REITs will not (as interest rates keep increasing)...some REITs may be OK such as NRZ (because of their business model with MSR's) and maybe NYMT (because of its current color and being way over sold)...! That said, never trust my advice and never trust me with your money or your whiskey, lol...! Stagg...!

ed...my current picks are 'for the future' and not the past, as I feel the BDC's will 'hold the line' going forward and because BDCL (yield about 21.6%) is a basket of 2X BDC's it should do fine...! That said, GAIN (yield about 9.5% and pays monthly) is rated a buy on all of the technical indicators that I use..plus, it has good color with a ROE of 17% and etc.,...! Stagg...!

sarge...I don't see any Santa Clause Rally this year...however, I have done very well in the last couple of weeks...UVE is doing fine as it recovers from a 'baseless short attack', UVE now as several upgrades going with a short term (three month) price target of about $30.00 a share...I still see, what I feel is, a lot of current value...i.e. PSEC, NRZ, GAIN, UVE, BDCL, SFL, FRO and etc., just take a pick, as they are 'all fine for the future'...GAIN (yield about 10% and pays monthly) is very highly rated...! william...you, bayman and I have about the same strategy...however, it seems that you are being a bit more successful at it in 2015....! I have had a wonderful Rally in the last couple of weeks, I hope it carries forward into 2016...! Stagg...!

mark...that is why I dollar cost average...it FRO goes lower after the reverse split, I will 'just add more', why not burn the candle on both ends (???), if we believe a stock is a good buy...! Stagg...!

chad...you ask a good question...I will add 'before' the reverse split...the reason I will add before the split is because a lot of investors look at a reverse split 'as a sign of weakness' in a stock (and that is the main reason it is trading lower, at this time)...however, the reason FRO is doing a reverse split to because a lot of mutual fund managers (and others) will not buy low price stocks to add to their funds...

FRO is not in danger of being unlisted (NYSE) because of a low share price and the reverse split will make it 'more attractive' to a lot of high profile big money...again, FRO is trading down because a lot of investors are reading the reverse stock split wrong (and we can benefit from it)...! At this time FRO has outstanding color and we get paid well (almost a 7% yield) to wait for an increase in share price, that will be based on future earnings...! Stagg...!

sarge...my holdings have 'really done good' in the last two weeks, but they are in a bit of a slump today...I am still adding a few high yield stocks to my portfolio as I still see a lot of bargains available...I will probably add more NRZ, FRO and NYMT and then wait and see what January has in store for us...! I plan to keep it simple, 'stay the course' and keep reinvesting my current yields (no energy or MLP's for me)...! Stagg...!

CALM--Get some on the sell off???

    by sarge198502 Dec 24, 2015 9:42 AM
    staggman99 staggman99 Dec 27, 2015 12:43 PM Flag

william...my biggest mistake this year was NMM (current yield about 26.7%)...if it was not for NMM I would have had a pretty decent year...however, I am still holding it, as it may not drop much more in share price (???) and I might replace it with something worst (as it still has a nice yield)...

A lot of the time, I post some messages about my bad holdings, because that is what I need to work on, not my winners...my opinion is, that a lot of the BDC's will hold their ground going forward into 2016...and as the Fed. increases interest rates more (maybe two or three times, beginning in March), most of the BDC's will continue to benefit from it....

I am also staying away from all the MLP's as I feel they are not worth the trouble for me (K-1's, late tax reports, poor returns and etc.)...I understand that a lot of investors feel otherwise...there is a very sharp lady named Lizahang (maybe spelled wrong), that was holding a lot of MLP's (she don't post messages anymore)...and I bet she pretty much got wiped out because she was almost all energy related...

Going forward into 2106, some sectors and investments may change (profit wise) and we may also have to change our investments and not follow the herd mentality...! Stagg...!

    staggman99 staggman99 Dec 27, 2015 8:27 AM Flag

ed...2015 was a rough year for all of us...however, I did a portfolio tune up 'before the Fed. raised interest rates' and it has paid off very fine...

Myself, because of the 'recent surge' in my current holdings, I think I am headed in the right direction and I plan to stay the course...my current plan is to stay focused in BDC's and some shipping stocks...

I still, see some bargains in certain stocks...! I am not sure yet, but it looks like I may finish the year down about -6% (???), which is a lot better than it was...! Stagg...!

sarge...my holdings have been on 'very strong roll' lately...UVE has been on a rebound from the 'short seller attack' and has been certified to sell insurance in yet another state...however, the main surge for me has been in the BDC's that I am holding (and NRZ)...most of the BDC's will 'benefit again' when/if the Fed. raises interest rates again in March of 2016...! That said, today is another daisy for me, lol...(I did add more PSEC early this morning, as it has been running very hot)...! Stagg...!

  • Board members...FRO is having a special general meeting to approve a 5 for 1 consolidation of shares...shareholders on record of 12/29/15 will vote at the general meeting on 1/29/16...my opinion is, that it is a good deal because mutual fund managers will not purchase low priced stocks for their funds...

That said, FRO (yield about 6.8%) has received 'several new upgrades' and has outstanding current color...i.e the current ROE is 57.6%, EPS q/q are up 115% and current year est. have increased from 34 cents per share 30 days ago, to 42 cents per share today, an increase of 23.5%...! I will vote for the reverse stock split as my SFL shares will also benefit from it (as SFL owns 7% of FRO)...! Stagg...!

sarge...'excellent posted message', it is always nice to see an investor bring new and up to date, information to this message board...I saw the chart on oil and the Euro and it was very strange (but very true)...I think we will start seeing money move around in different sectors and we need to stay focus and nimble...! That all being said...WOW, I am having a really great day in the markets, lol (BDCL, NMM, FRO and PSEC are all doing fine)...! Stagg...!
