sarge...this market is starting to act a bit weird, I added more CEFL today and I may sell 'some' of my SFL (which I already have a stop loss order on) and use those funds to 'buy back' some SDRL (if it keep retreating in share price)...my only holdings up, at this time, are LMLP and AI (NYMT is moving a bit sideways)...

The markets started off strong today and then broke down (this is not a good sign)...! My faith is still strong but my holdings are a bit weaker, lol...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...today I added more CEFL (yield about 16% and pay monthly)...my opinion is, that it would be stupid for me not to add more of a stock that pays 16% monthly...! I will also add more CEFL and LMLP in the future, as I continue to build them into core holdings...! $tagg...!

    AI HAS RELEASED GREAT EARNINGS....!

Thanks for the feedback guys...the numbers are so good on AI, that I thought I was making a mistake...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...maybe I am the only investor here that owns AI (yield about 13%, annualized)...it looks to me like their earnings have more than doubled (I need to study it some more)...after 'a quick look' it seems that earning have increased over 100% from the previous quarter and over 400% from the previous year....! If I am wrong on any of this I will eat more crow (again, lol)...there is a lot to read and digest, so I will need some 'more help' from bob, mark and everybody else that has the time to check it out (I may be overlooking sometime, ???)...! $tagg...!

    THE NADL AND ROSNEFT DEAL...!

    by staggman99 Jul 29, 2014 8:31 AM
    staggman99 staggman99 Jul 29, 2014 2:29 PM Flag

Board members...it is now looking to me like everybody thinks it is time to 'wait and see' on the future of the NADL and Rosneft deal, companies have a hard enough time showing a profit without any extra problems...I don't think the global players will come down to much on Russian oil and natural gas (because it is needed), but it can get caught in the financial downdraft...

That said, My holdings are weak today, but I did add a small amount of LMLP to my current holdings...I still have a stop loss order on some of my SFL, but I may just go ahead and sell 20% of my holdings in it...I 'will still need' to sell about 30% of my SDRL and SFL to bring them 'into balance' with the rest of my holdings (because I am still top heavy in them)...however, it may not be a good idea to sell more of my SDRL and SFL ahead of
earnings coming in late August (???)...! $tagg...!

k-bon...I think investors and the global banking system 'will run away' from any investments that have anything to do with Russia at this time...! $tagg...!

  • Board members...in my opinion, the future of the deal between them is 'not looking to good' as there is now also a 50 billion dollar judgement against the government run oil company (Russian assets could be seized around the world)...it is going to be hard for Rosneft 'to get financing in the future' to move forward on the NADL and Rosneft off-and-on shore drilling deal...

The Russian Ruble is falling in value and sanctions will hurt international investments in Russia as a lot of global companies will not want to take an investment risk at this time; plus global banks will not finance funds to the Russian financial platform (it will probably also hurt the forward growth of SDRL some)...! I would like to see bob, mark and several others jump in here and give their opinions on this (???)...! $tagg...!

Market Insurance?....I just keep buying APPL!!

gambler...I am afraid of APPL because I keep running into people who don't like their phones...my friend Allen (another farmer) and some of my grandsons don't like the AAPL phones...I have a Sansung Galaxy 4 mini and I love it and it is very user friendly...I am not knocking AAPL but I don't do any tech. stocks...soon or later another company comes out with a better mouse trap and the investors suffer (and they have a bad history of retuning profits to the investors)...! I have a lot of respect for you and sarge, but AAPL 'is not for me'...! $tagg...!

    INSURANCE CAN PAYOFF...!

mud...I will first buy some more LMLP because (long term) I feel it will do fine...I still like CEFL and DVHL...most of the BDC's are probably over-sold at this time (take a pick, lol)....however, the markets usually 'sell off' from about the end of August until mid-November, so buyers should take their time and choose wisely for the long haul...

I kept telling investors that ARLP would do fine in the future and they just had an 32% increase in earnings...ARLP bought a coal lease from me in southern Illinois and the new White Oak coal mine is very close to me...I do not own any ARLP because I was fully invested, but it has a bright future...I will buy some ARLP if there is a pull-back, but I doubt that will happen....! $tagg...!

update...now my stop loss order on AWLCF has kicked in, so I now have 20% less holdings in AWLCF...therefore, I now have a lot more free cash to work with after taking more profit...the markets will probably do a snap-back rally before the end of this week...but I would rather be safer than sorry...! I still have a stop loss order on some of my SFL and I will probably raise it to a higher level...! $tagg...!

  • staggman99 by staggman99 Jul 28, 2014 10:22 AM Flag

Board members...my stop loss order on 20% on my SDRL holdings kicked in and I saved myself a lot of profit and now I have a lot more free funds to reinvest (and I see bargains everywhere)...! I may also stair-step my other stop loss orders a bit higher to follow current capital gains...! $tagg...!

update...my stop loss order on SDRL kicked in and it looks like I have saved myself a lot of profit...I now own 20% less SDRL and have a lot more free funds to go shopping for value with (or to even buy back into SDRL)...! I got lucky and hit it right this time...! $tagg...!

  • staggman99 by staggman99 Jul 28, 2014 9:57 AM Flag

Board members...My stop loss order on SDRL kicked in so now I have 20% less holdings than I did before...however, at this time, SFL and AWLCF are moving higher and I may have to stair-step my stop loss orders on them higher (on 20% of my holdings in them)...! I am also seeing better bargains than SDRL, with higher yields at this time, it will be no problem to reinvest those free funds elsewhere...! Fact is, I could already reinvest those funds in SDRL and get a lot lower price point if I wanted to...! $tagg...!

ed...you are using two different stocks that have 'different earnings per share' has an example...a company that has 'less earnings per share than the payout' is not a good holding...a company that has a 'high yield and higher earnings per share' is a good holding...AGNC has lower earnings than the payout and MAIN has higher earnings than the payout...

It is very important to look at all the color of a stock and not just the yield...I always look at all of the color (key statistics), not just the the current yield...remember, a company can have a high yield and still be priced very cheap (it happens all the time)...! Remember, that there are a lot of low yield stocks that will not be able to maintain their current payout...!

Board members...most of the time I look at stocks that have a yield below 8% as a red flag warning...REIT's and BDC's are required to payout 90% of their earning to retain their tax status...if a REIT or a BDC has a low yield it is a sign that they have poor earnings...! $tagg...!

Board members...for the record, william is a very well traveled, intelligent international investor, land owner and farmer from SA...a lot of different investors (including myself) have had 'major investment profits' from the wisdom of his previous tips on investing...

In my opinion, william takes great pleasure in teasing the monkey talker because most of his posted messages 'are so ridiculous'...! Has any investors here every made any profit off of the monkey talkers posted messages (???)...! $tagg...!

  • staggman99 staggman99 Jul 25, 2014 11:02 AM Flag

Board members...corn is a wonderful crop because we get food, meat and fuel from it and the exports help reduce our foreign trade deficit...everybody in the U.S. benefits from American grown corn...however, the monkey talker blamed a lot higher food prices on corn, but while the price of corn retreats, food prices keep going upward...the monkey talker 'always talks in circles' and plays voodoo economics...

The fact is, that there is plenty of corn for food, meat and fuel and American grown corn is helping to keep our fuel prices down through ethanol...and Obama has nothing to do with corn prices or the American farmer, as always, it is the simple law of supply and demand...my break even price on corn is a lot better than most farmer because my land and machinery 'is all paid for'...

Another fact is, that because corn prices are so low (and going lower) there is 'no chance' that the production of ethanol will stop, 'it may even get subsidized again' because we would not have enough fuel without it (our refineries cannot keep up with the demand)...it makes more sense to subsidize American grow crops that we export than to give away 'free lunches' to the Mid-East...! Enjoy your corn flakes and ample supply of fuel because the American farmer is doing their job...! $tagg...!

huff...I am a long term investor as I only have stop loss orders on 20% of my listed holdings...I usually (not always) try to dollar cost average in and out of my investments...I am always afraid of 'Bloody October' and it can start in August and is usually over by mid-November...

More, if the stop loss orders set in, I will probably buy more LMLP, DVHL and CEFL (if I see good entry points)...also, some of the BDC's look interesting as they seem to be on a rebound from being over-sold...! I am keeping the faith as 'compound returns always win' (it pays to reinvest)...! I also invest a major part of my farm income every year (and that will be within a couple of months)...! The future is our to win or lose and that is why I always keep the faith...! $tagg...!

Board members...I am now up over 13% YTD in my portfolios, therefore, I am taking out some insurance...I put some GTC market stop loss orders on 20% of my SDRL, SFL and AWLCF...

SFL and SDRL are my 'top heavy core holdings' and I need to cut back on them anyway...plus, the yield on them are easy to replace with higher yields someplace else...however, I don't want to cut back on them to much because I feel they 'should shine' when the next earning reports come out (in late August)...

AWLCF, has been, a real high yield, sweetheart with a yield of about 19% and Total Returns of over 37% YTD...I hate to give up some of that very high yield but I am still 'playing it safe' as nothing is forever...note, AWLCF still has good color, strong drivers and a decent forward outlook (but it is never wrong to lock in some profit)...

In the near future, I will probably take out some insurance (stop loss orders) on MLPL and STAG as both of them have done great...the yield on STAG will be easy to replace as it is only about 5%, yet the profit from STAG (reinvested) could make up some of the loss yield on AWLCF if the stop loss order kicks in on it...

My current goal is to maintain my principal and add about 5% or 6% to it by the end of this year, if I am successful I can finish this year with about a 20% Total Return on my investments...the future is always ours to lose (or win)....! $tagg...!
