The feds will not block a merger. They have already signaled that in the ODP/OMX merger. There are new competitors on the B to B space - Amazon, Granger. On the retail sie Costco and mass market provide plenty of competition for the feds.
The funny thing is that the more SPLS stock decines the more pressure there will be from Staples shareholders to buy.
IMO this will happen.
Wow - North of $8.50.
If ODP keeps rising then Staples will not be able to make a deal because it will be too expensive to buy.
I agree with you.
The problem for Ron is that Starboard does want them to buy ODP and I think it will happen.
Now that is a reasonable post.
First of all I did sell this week at $7.94. I bought in a few months ago at $5.76.
I don't understand why you dismiss or ignore the fact that Starboard took a position. Obviouslyonce they moved the market. In addition I do think that Staples will buy Depot. If depot revisits the $6.00 area I will buy in again.
You are an angry person.
I did read your post moron. It said that "Absolutely nothing has happened over the past 3 months to move Depot from $4.40 to the current level." Well - Starboad happened and you are a moron.
Do you read the newspapers?
Activist hedge fund Starboard Value LP revealed that it increased its stake in ODP to 9.9%. That and the speculation surrounding a possible deal between Staples and Depot is driving prices higher.
If you don't understand this you should not be investing in the market.
Or perhaps you are a current or former disgruntled employee.
Ron does not have the stomach to buy ODP. Buying CEXP was a difficult experience for Staples. the integration was a nightmare and keep in mind that CEXP did not have a retail component. Combining the retain and contract platforms would be a nightmare.
In my opinion Ron will not buy ODP.
Very well run company, pays a good dividend.
Why would this stock go down? No reason.
Do yourself a favor and buy some shares!
Avery will need to accept a lower price than 3M offered. Esselte was rumored to be a willing buyer so they might come back int a negotiation. In any case this is very bad news for the Avery OP group.
