Intel is about to pay the price for taking its eye off the "desktop ball". It has splashed the cash everywhere but in the right place. Grove/Barrett would have fired and reset, by 2001 LATEST!
    Ottelini just watched.
The new kids need a high chair to even see the top of their desks! ALL stock options, swank, and no SKILL.....
Intel processors are a now "solution waiting for a problem".
No-one desperately NEEDS such power, ***because no-one has sponsored valuable, useful apps which can generate PRODUCTIVITY from it.***
Windows 10 (the latest MS con to get you RENTING their OS instead of buying it) is dead before it's born.....

Intel spent virtually NOTHING on support/encouragement for top-end desktop processing.
Remember E3 in 1997 and Grove's Keynote speech? Software was just about able to use the power available, and planning more EXCITING things for the next Generation.
Things were BOOMING until Grove/Barrett backed away and Ottelini took over.
By Spring 2000, all resource was pushed into "making Itanium Intel's LEAD PRODUCT" (!!!!!)
    - That's a (useless) SERVER chip folks (TAM, then, about 300,000 units pa. Desktop TAM, then, about 750 MILLION units pa!!!!

    Serves it right!!!!
    It dug a deep hole.
    And it's STILL DIGGING!!!!
    Chap
