Not a real surprise that Bel is leaving I guess.

ORLANDO, Fla., March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- API Technologies Corp. (ATNY) ("API"), a leading provider of high performance RF, microwave, millimeterwave, power, and security solutions, announced today that Robert Tavares has been named President and Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Mr. Tavares will also become a member of API's Board of Directors. Bel Lazar, API's current President and Chief Executive Officer, is leaving the company.

Well, the quarter was actually a little better than I expected. Adler was not the drag I feared. Still, McGrath isn't really growing very fast. Revenues have grown nicely over the last 10 years, but they aren't moving much to the bottom line. The forecast for next year was conservative as usual, but the forecast for this year proved to be fairly accurate, so I am not expecting any big upside surprises. Guess this will just be one of my longer term dividend plays.

    Not a Great Week

Not great, but maybe not so bad. As you mentioned, the volume on Friday was encouraging. Sounded like we got the orders Gayn was hoping for when he said he wasn't quite ready to write off this quarter at the last CC. We still have about 4 weeks to get the 1P out the door to meet his latest forecast. Might be a bad sign, but I am actually feeling a little more optimistic. It's never fast, except when your long positions are getting slaughtered.

Looks like Thur. I think this is our first chance to hear from Bob Trogele, the new COO.

Good news. Not sure whether this will go on the current Q3 revenues or to Q4. Depends on how they decide to book it I guess. If it goes on Q3, that might be enough to get us back around the $5 million range and perhaps break even for the quarter. I have to think it might be Spansion and that they were holding orders until their merger with Cypress was firmed up. Now if we can get that Fox-1P out the door and some orders for more, we might see this start to move.

No announcement yet, but it should be this week if they follow previous years pattern.

  • This type of donation could pay future benefits as more students are trained on Hurco software.

So, did she sell them today? Ha. Another possibility is that we are only a week from the Q4 report and either someone had a look at it ahead of time or they are just getting nervous after about 4 lousy reports in a row.

I see that Eric had to transfer 317,000 shares to his ex wife as part of the divorce settlement. He now owns 800,000+ shares. Hard to say how quickly she will sell the shares, but there won't be any filings on her share holdings since she is under the 5% level.

Thinking about the debt, it is quite large. But, if you look at it like an investor that owns lots of rental properties and has a mortgage on the properties. As long as your return on the borrowed money is greater than your cost of money, it makes sense to have a mortgage on the properties. If they had to pay cash for all their inventory, they probably would only have 1/2 of the rentable equipment that they have. And at least for now, money is cheap. I would hope they are able to borrow for less than 5%. The assets are valued on the 10-K at about twice the total debt, so it's like having a conservative 50% mortgage on your home.

  • Looks like all the 13F-HR filings are completed. Aside from the insiders that bought in the last raise, it looks like no change in the other institutions in Q4. I would expect that to change if they can complete a couple sales before the end of calendar Q1. If they reach sustainable profitability, some of the funds will start adding shares. Fiscal Q1 ends at the end of February. At the CC Gayn said he didn't want to throw in the towel yet on Q1, so maybe they get some orders for wafer packs, etc. Don't know if they would announce any orders of that type, but as slow as Q4 was, perhaps Q1 will be better if the orders were really pushed out instead of just cancelled. The Fox-1P is still supposed to ship by the end of March I guess.

FWIW, I just checked the February Feltl analyst opinion on AVD. No change over the last few months. The stock has been showing a little strength lately, but really need to see improved product sales.

If you ignore all the previous delays and just look at the last CC, they are right on schedule with what they talked about at the last CC. They should still ship the first 1P by the end of March I hope.

In addition, there will be numerous presentations on automation technology, cutting tool applications, metalworking, 3D technology, mold making and more.

Now in its 16th year, SIMM has continuously showcased world-class exhibitors and machinery in Shenzhen. The presence of the world's leading machinery companies in the event highlights the significance of the China market, as well as the importance and influence of SIMM as a gateway to this market for machinery vendors. The four-day event will also feature the best locally-made manufacturing machinery, equipment and materials.

Global Sources is SIMM's international marketing partner.

Visitors from more than 50,000 companies are expected to attend SIMM this year. Attendance at SIMM is free for industry professionals.

  • SHENZHEN, China, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 16th Shenzhen International Machinery Manufacturing Industry Exhibition (SIMM) is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen -- China's most dynamic manufacturing hub -- on March 30 to April 2, 2015. The show is set to take up all exhibition space available at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center, the major exhibition venue in the city of South China, just across the border from Hong Kong. While China is considered the "factory of the world", Shenzhen and the surrounding Pearl River Delta area constitute the largest light industry center in China, producing more than a quarter of the country's total exports. The local manufacturing sector, with its rich R&D and supply chain capabilities, has attracted international exhibitors to SIMM.

The show will cover more than 110,000 square meters of exhibition space and is expected to feature more than 1,200 local and international exhibitors, showcasing 3,600 precision machining equipment and more than 10,000 types of products. Industrial automation and robotics applications will be a key highlight of this year's SIMM, with two dedicated exhibition halls (Intelligent Integration & Robotics Exhibition), as well as three robotics applications seminars and a special zone for vendor-user meetings and networking events. Robotics has become a major area of interest as China's manufacturing industry is increasingly facing labor costs and intensifying labor shortage, making China the biggest market for industrial robotics with more than 36,560 units sold in 2013.

SIMM features five concurrent exhibitions that place the entire industrial machinery supply chain under one roof:
•Metal Cutting Machine Tools -- featuring Mazak, OKK, Mikron, Roeders, HAAS, Hurco, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, SMEC, Hyundai, Takisawa, Makino, SMTCL, DMTG, Parlec, Willemin-Macodel, and more.
