First the news that Samsung buys Cheil to produce OLED chemicals by tons
Then the news that Samsung abandons OLED TVs.
So what are they going to do with those 5 tons of OLED host materials ?
It's the guidance they provide.
This quarter has no Samsung license revenue (just a reminder to those who hope for over the top ), it's all material sales. None of "carefully timed news" is related to past quarter material sales - so those numbers should be ok , probably 10-15% increases in compare with 2013Q1.
So the focus is on the guidance - will they revise it in lieu of recent "news" or confirm it.
If I remember it right, material sales for OLED TV were not included in projections before, so I expect that guidance will be confirmed. And that's how management should react, IMO - "our business is solid, we know what we are doing and other people are entitled to freedom of speech" .Or how they say it in Russian , " dog barks, wind carries over" .
There is a "black out period" before earnings when insiders are not allowed to trade their holdings. It's not related to PR. If you look on the rate of official PRs from UDC you would notice that "quiet period" is about 3 months - from one CC announcement to another. Don't expect any explanations from management until CC. Are you a short term trader and bought OLED on margin? Or your school assignment in Investment 101 is due?
If not then what's a big deal to wait another week .
Someone knows something
(beat ya , shaz)
Here is list of known good news :
- z800 is not going to be sold in Target. TGT is down and so EMAN is up
- Kopin is going to report tomorrow. It reminds investors how KOPN lost military business and who won it.
- Sony announced it's newest midrange DSLR camera SLT-A77 Mark II which has XGA OLED viewfinder. It reminded investors on yet unannounced OLED viewfinder contract that EMAN was planning to announce a year ago.
List of rumors:
- GOOGL did stock split as a preparation to buyout EMAN
- AAPL announced stock split as a preparation to buyout EMAN
- AMZN is not going to do stock split in preparation to buyout EMAN
Why this PR is from SAN MARCOS, TX and not from Quantum Material Corp. headquarters at
2326 SCOTT DRIVE. KINGSTON, OK 73439
which is a 1638 square foot, single family home.
Is your name Jaret ?
It's fine to copy and paste SA article although it falls under TLDR for me.
If you are Jaret then just say "hey guys , I just published article at SA and mentioned EMAN there."
If you are not Jaret then what's your opinion/comment on it .
I know you're quite active on HIMX board , so do you think "eMagin's OLED microdisplays in GG" are just false rumors to bring down HIMX price ? Well, those rumors didn't affect EMAN share price so they're most likely false. We know that OLED is not in the current dev model and we know that current GG model suffers from power requirements. There isn't too much choice for Google - either LCoS will improve on power side or OLED will improve on brightness . The latter one is an undergoing process and it's just a question of time at this moment. In 6 months we will have different microdisplay landscape .
as reported by flyonethewall :
eMagin reports Q1 EPS (7c), one estimate (2c)
Reports Q1 revenue $6.3M, one estimate $8.86M.
How more lazy could it be - last quarter Management clearly said that 1Q is expected just like 4Q which means about 6M of revenue. Estimate of 8.86M is simply unprofessional. Whoever it was - Piper Jaffrey or Openheimer, it's just demonstration of ignorance.
Here is my comments after reading the trancript :
"Hence, we feel confident in harsh military environments that are displays are subject to and the sometimes difficult conditions found in all mobile applications, when, for example, one leaves the mobile device in a hot car during summer." -
So, what is considered as a car - Abrams or Bradley, or just Humvee ?
"The tool can now run at its rated speed." - That's what I wanted to hear. It means that 10x is volume is not a technical issue any more. Personnel, procedures and all other things around it may have effect but the road is clear.
"He’s started a pull system for production planning," - It must be "POOL" not "PULL". Pool order control or something like that . Really serious stuff - this new guy knows what he is doing. This is what will get us over all those 'stop orders' issues in the future.
"we expect R&D revenues to increase going forward" - Yeah, icing on the cake !
"All you have to do is go back to our major competitor, at least in the U.S. market, for military, and that’s
our Massachusetts LCD company, and look at their revenues from 2010 until now, significantly." Cant' hold the smile on this one . Let's call them now "former LCD manufacturer from Taunton, MA"
"If we have volume needs that surpass our capacity, then you could see some capital expenditures around that."
That's an interesting comment. I thought that second depo machine is out of question. Now, it seems like , it's not , maybe second depo from SNU Precision is out of question. Overall, one of the people on the call (Jack Morebeck) sounded like he got some info from presentation at Sidoti conference and came back with questions.
"By the end of this second quarter, we plan to have a low-resolution demonstrator, so it will be almost VGA, not quite." Anyone is going to SID 2014 ?
A question about XGA and the answer : " Canon has not moved." Here is our mystic EVF customer name.
you need to get out more often.
I grew up under "Russia as a great nation" banner - almost any invention (radio, steam engine etc.) was first invented in Russia but the rest of the world didn't notice it and had to re-invent it again. I don't deny great achievements by some extraordinary Russians , I am just sick of "great nation" talk.
Talk to French (real French, not French Canadians) about Napoleon or De Gaul and you'd get an earful about great nation as well. How about Brazilians and their superiority in soccer ?
Germans are pretty much the only humble nation now because the last guy who talked about "great nation" there brought them a great deal of shame.
The article is on oled-info site and as far as I know Ron Mertens who runs the site is very thorough guy. On the other side, I think (but not 100% sure) , he also has investment in OLED companies - eMagin (EMAN) and Universal Display (OLED, nee PANL) . That article is intended mostly for people interested in OLED technology so take it as such. I am invested in EMAN much longer than in HIMX and I can tell you that EMAN board is filled with hopes that Google will buy their micro display (or even buyout eMagin as a whole for X Billions). In a sense if Google picks MicroOLED in favor of eMagin that would be a serious blow for EMAN shareholders (including Ron) as well. There are many reasons why Google would choose OLED micro display and why they would or would not go with MicroOLED but that would be a discussion for EMAN board - you are welcome to come there. I don't believe that the rumor is created by a person shorting HIMX. Ron seems to me a nice guy well above short #$%$. When yahoo messed up with message boards and they were filled with spammers and bashers and pumpers he created EMAN and PANL investment forums on his web site so serious investors could continue to discuss OLED related companies without sifting through the garbage. I think that speaks of the character - how many of people posting here would go that far for their investment in HIMX.
Yeah, all the news media is attracted to Apple's WWDC while SID 2014 gets no attention.
There is so much OLED related there - looking through program I counted 3 presentations on blue emitter, a presentation on OLED on textile, etc
Who is 'they' ?
Everybody know it's rigged. SEC included.
It's like driving above speed limit on highway - sometimes somebody gets caught.
If Gary Jones would be dead I'd suspect you used ouija board .
z800 was a flop . I remember the high hopes with z800 launch . It was in the mid of all other computer industry boom as well. Gary threw everything into z800 following old adage "build it and they will come" . We were ready to get filthy rich. Public voted for it with their wallets and we stuck with reverse split, delisting and looming chapter 7.
Forget Z800 - re-opening consumer product line would require extra expenditure (marketing, sales, tech support etc) and it would be a subject of moody public scrutiny. All those engadget and techcrunch blogs would just start rating it - "we give it 6.5 stars because it doesn't provide visual correction beyond 20/2000 and audio is not made by dr.dre " . You think that it would be a superior product but their job is to find spots on the sun.
What would be better , IMO, if eMagin organize a showcase event ( say in NYC) and invite all vendors who use our displays to bring up their products.
Technically speaking , it's not.
I am still holding the lot of 600 @ 2.10 I bought on 07/21/2010 - a tad short of 4 years .
Not that it makes it prettier, though.
If eMagin lost TWS contract to Kopin they should disclose it. Otherwise, it would look like they are hiding information to protect share price in lieu with recent shelf registration. Better come out clean.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy !
Three announcements in 2 days !
It would take me a week to recover , or more.
I got so psyched that "the Guidance for 2014FY" moved from "Delusions" to "Hopes" skipping "Dreams" and "Mirage" levels ,
Are you questioning my faith ?
You asked "do you believe" and I do , plainly, stupidly, with no facts to support.
Call it "gut feeling" or "hope for miracle" , no rational explanation exists.
There were other problems with depo tool and none of the fixes were reported in a PR, only at CC. I don't think there were any serious technical challenges with wire bonding problem. I think it was quickly reduced to something like "we know how to fix it on 1 display and it takes 1 man hour and we have 100,000 displays to fix" issue. So it will be reported as "fixed" but it would still affect revenue this and next quarters. Unless, we see some patent application on how to fix wire bonding on 100k displays in 5 min.
I am more concerned about new issues that were found with depo and/or sealing machines.
UDC buyback program was finished a while ago. UDC officers are most likely in the lockout period before ER (since the announcement of date for Quarterly Report). And they never buy anyway .
Don't rely on RSI too much - when HIMX dropped to 12 it showed 'oversold' , HIMX is now at 8 and still "oversold" and it should rally 50% now to get back to those 12 .
