I'm not that most people. I run a small business and I buy merchandise from both Walmart and Costco for my business. I get couple of grands as a form of rebate from both companies every year. that's how much i spend shopping at both stores.
More often then not, I'm forced to stop by at the both stores on the same day. and it always makes me wonder how Sam's club can stay business. Sam's club has far less merchandise than Costco. Have you been to Costco at 10am? the parking lot is always filled with cars with whole families enjoying shopping. Sam's club at 10am? the only cars you see are that of the employees. Sometimes, I go to Sam's club just because it's far easier to park. and i buy as little as possible and get out as fast as possible because it's such a depressing place to shop.
i recommend you to check out costco and sam's club on the same day and you will see what i'm talking about.
went to sam's club today. need one specific item plus a bunch of other items. would have spent probably $300 or so.
the item i was looking for was not there. fetched the employee about 20 feet from the shelf i was looking at. asked where the item is, she pointed the shelf i was looking at. when told it was not there, she said then we don't have it. she didn't move a foot to take a look at herself.
i pleasantly thanked her for her help, left the empty shopping cart right in front of her, and walked out.
my next stop? COSTCO, even though it was 15 min extra drive, it was worth the drive cuz i saved $$$ today.
gad no i hope they never becomes the likes of walmart. they should be more like TGT or WFM whose PE is hovering above 30. if KR has the same PE, it should be in the $90 dollars range. In any case, KR is still massively undervalued but the street is beginning to notice so it will catch up soon.
does that change the long term outlook for ALU?
two immediate consequences come to mind...
one that's positive because it would give additional pressure to NOK and ERICSSON to consolidate, with ALU being the most likely take-over target
or negative because well... it's obvious i suppose. more players, less share of telecom pies...
i got out at $2.47 and i don't regret my decision.
however, i'm still lurking to get back in at the right time.
if ALU bombs the earning, at what price would you get back in?
EU and China are about to reach an agreement on Chinese telecoms ban on EU.
the following is the excerpt. you can find it by googling "CNBC ALU-FR"
He gave no details but the EU and China are understood to have prepared the draft of a deal ahead of a meeting between Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and senior EU officials at a summit in Milan on Oct. 16-17.
Imports of such telecoms equipment into the EU are worth an annual 1 billion euros ($1.3 billion) and bring Chinese companies into competition with European companies including Ericsson, the world's biggest mobile telecom equipment maker, Nokia Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent.
According to an EU document seen by Reuters, the Commission says the swift rise of Chinese manufacturer Huawei in the European telecoms equipment market to a 25 percent market share from 2.5 percent in 2006, could only have been achieved with state aid that global trade rules say are illegal.
I actually considered this to be a good news because it would force the EU telecom companies (NOK and Ericsson) to consolidate with ALU being the most likely take-over target. but apparently the market
thinks otherwise so we might get another hit when they reach an agreement next week.
well i sure enjoyed the paper profit while i had it. too bad i didn't get to spend a dime of it.
i was probably a bit more patient than many of you cuz my ave price/sh was $2.50ish.
i sold this morning. broke even more or less.
i was a long time long and a firm believer of the company but i had to preserve the capital.
there will be another day to make profit but it seems that today is not it.
i've never seen a stock going down this fast i'm still in awe.
and all those external developments sure didn't help either - Euro, Ebola, wars and conflicts everywhere...
good luck to you all.
bump to remind u that u bought million shares today but u will announce if and only if the shares begin to climb. otherwise, it will forever be the secret :)
after years of speculation, i more or less gave up on msft buying NOK phone unit. and then boom, it happened with no warnings whatsoever. i expect the same thing with ALU mobile.
i bet NOK would love to get a piece of this. maybe they will make a bid for ALU mobile?
