"stephens has penciled in it will cost them 20 cents per share of next years earnings to finance the dividend."
It will cost 20 cents per share to finance a dividend of $5.77 per share? Wow, now that is leverage!!

That would be the textbook expectation, if everything else stayed flat. The dividend is a payout of the company's retained earnings. It's a distribution of equity. But with PPC you have a huge short interest that find it necessary to cover, lest the short holder is responsible for paying the dividend on the borrowed stock. I do not know why this stock has such a large short interest. Is it because everyone thinks chicken prices will drop or what?
Also, they have earnings coming out in early February, so that is another wildcard here within the next couple of weeks.

I know Polaris (PII) is more diversified, but it's interesting to see ACAT tank, while at the same time today PII is up. I'll be curious to see the earnings release.

Any holders who existed hoping for a buyout might be shedding their positions, including possibly Starboard?

I think you are on the right track snogreen, this has to be related in some fashion to the parent company and the different currencies involved. Otherwise, this is most bizarre. In the press release the company mentions that they are trying to "improve their capital structure" and I fail to see how paying out a dividend at a rate which approximates 17% of the current stock price helps to improve the capital structure.
Be aware of a potential stock drop after the dividend record date. If you think you're going to buy the stock today and hold it past the record date to capture the dividend, and then pocket the 15% dividend, I'd be very careful. The parent company strategy, the high level of stock short, and the relatively large size of this dividend could make that a very tricky strategy for an individual investor.

I've got to think that this outfit will begin to suffer along with the entire region when the fracking pain begins.

But they also get some revenue (a bit over 30% of their total revenue) from the category they refer to as "Product and other" which is sales of eyeywear, so they should be able to avoid red ink on the bottom line. But you're right, the box office number for the December 2014 quarter end was very bad. These guys are just so much at the mercy of how many 3-D movies are produced.

They need to fund inventory and auto loan receivables that are growing at a faster rate than sales. These guys will be to vehicles, what TITN is to farm machinery and what CONN is to home appliances.

    December 40 Call Options

Oh wait, now I see that BB&T capital markets downgraded the stock this morning from buy to hold, so they likely sold the call options prior to them announcing the downgrade and will keep the premium. I jest, but you never know.

Anybody notice that over 5,000 December 40 calls traded today? That is an astronomical number, given there's only 2 weeks left before the expiration.

What is the status of the Starboard bid?

    by tongoapeman Oct 22, 2014 3:34 PM

    From today's release:
"RealD management and its Board of Directors believe the value of its business will benefit from the strength of its cinema platform and upcoming film slate, the value inherent in its IP portfolio, and the changes being made to further reduce operating expenses and capital expenditures. The Company strongly believes that the aforementioned actions will enhance value for all RealD shareholders. Accordingly, the RealD Board, in consultation with outside financial and legal advisors, has carefully reviewed the unsolicited indication of interest from Starboard Value LP and unanimously determined not to pursue it. I would assume RLD would almost have to address this in today's earnings report, and the call I'm sure will have questions pointed this way. I will be curious to find out.
