Many years ago mlp's were mostly held by retirees, widows and the like. Income investments just like utilities. Very stable in pricing and moved mostly by changes in interest rates. Those were the good old days. Along came the mlp etf's, hedge funds, and etc. Buy and hold is not in their vocabulary, wild swings in pricing and extortion of the mlp management teams is their game. This is not a pretty picture but that is what the individual investor is faced with. Maybe Donald Trump is right on when he says he wants reign in these guys and tax the hell out of them, might take the zing out of them and let the markets regain some stability.
