Sounds good to me, I'm long S&P, short TVIX and short Oil. I don't have a gold position, but might start building a long one in a year or so.
There seems to be another 100 or so just on this MB every month or so. All of them seem to always think they found a gem of an investment. I haven't seem many "Watch and learn" statements lates, so the this current group must not have the confidence of previous ones.
Sorry about your loses. My best word of advice, is don't try to get back to even. you will only take on too much risk. When volatility is relatively low, I like to take 1% of my portfolio and buy a put butterfly one month out, with a target price 10% below the current price. My current position (set up Monday) is long 1x $14 +1x $18 and short 2x $16 April 17th UVXY puts (obviously the total amount of puts long or short is a multiple of these numbers). It cost me about $0.35 to set this up and my max pay out is $2. I currently don't expect to hit the price and obviously we are below that price already. However this is profitable if the price of UVXY is between $14.35 and $17.65 on options expiration day. My goal is to catch a double with this trade and then set up another one. When Volatilty is high, I like to short TVIX and sell an out of the money call spread on UVXY. Another option when volatility is high, is to just buy a put or a put spread on UVXY, however it I like to have time on my side with my trades and not be losing too much money to decay.
I like KMI for it's yield growth (it is actually my largest position). I like MSFT and PG and for their bond equivalent status, but I don't own them (but I do own VZ). I like AAPL for EPS growth, however I admit I sold what was left of my position at $105. Last time I did any reasearch on KING was when it IPO's, but I didn't like it then. YHOO's got nothing, BABA should be great if they aren't making everything up like most Chinese companies. I wouldn't touch anything in the oil/gas patch other than pipeline compainies without commodity exposure, having said that I used to own PXD, EOG and CLR. Sold after the OPEC meeting in DEC. EOG and PXD might be worth picking up in the future. CLR will be #$%$ until oil is back above $60, which I think could be a few years. Because of the end of the commodity super cycle I wouldn't touch any mining companies, however I owned AUY in 2007 for a little while. I was always dissapointed in their results, I always figured they could do better next quarter and they never did. I think if I ever want Gold exposure again I will just buy GLD. Agriculture companies MOS, POT are going to be tough to own because of the strong dollar, However I do own FPI since I have always wanted to own farmland and this is the most liquid way. I don't know much about MU, PCLN, PANW, SWIR.
Are you back in Raybans? I haven't seen you here in a while.
In the mean time, enjoy the ride. Use options as stock replacement, and put butterflies on UVXY. Some of the easiest money around, withought risking much capital.
"Tvix will jump on news the Fed is removing patient." Nailed it
TVIX owns 100% April contracts now, so you are only going to be losing 0.2% per day to contango. However the April contracts are trading at $17.6, with the cash price at $15.6. TVIX holders need to hope that the VIX doesn't drop into the mid 13's again, or TVIX will 25% in a heartbeat. Good luck .
When most of the posts so far this morning are spam. Most of the TVIX bulls, must have given up and canceled their internet and brokerage accounts. Or more likely their wives made them, once they found out how much money they have lost on this.
I consider that a victory.
I covered about half at $2.1, what I have left has a cost basis of $3.91. I'll hold those short indefinately. I'll probably short more on the next VIX spike above 20+. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
oh yeah, I see that now. Not his normal type of post about wave 2 and 1 o'clock. Just a cryptic "Bada, Bada, Bada That's All folks" I wonder if that is when he was stopped out.
I don't even think beachbum is still holding this, and he had been holding and dollar cost averaging down for 9 months. Haven't heard him on here in a month.
My wife is not very savy when it comes to investments, however I run every trade or investment idea by her. If I ever used the word "hope" when looking for a catalyst, she would tell me it is a bad idea.
