May 27, 2014 - Data Suggest IBT Investigational Ebola Vaccine Would Protect Wild Apes

Integrated Biotherapeutics (IBT) and its partners have published what is believed to be a novel conservation strategy in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences (PNAS), wherein captive chimpanzees are vaccinated against Ebola virus to establish vaccine safety and immunogenicity in wild apes. The work represents the first time captive chimpanzees have been used for a trial that can benefit their own species rather than humans.

This vaccine is intended to protect wild gorilla and chimpanzee populations where infectious diseases, and Ebola virus in particular, are now recognized as a major threat on par with poaching and habitat loss. Chimpanzees are Endangered and gorillas are Critically Endangered, giving rise to ethical concerns about vaccine testing in wild animals. The current study did not challenge vaccinated apes with Ebola, but determined the vaccine was immunogenic and likely to be efficacious by comparing immune responses to those of macaques for which survival data is available. Further, vaccinated chimpanzee antibodies were able to protect mice from Ebola in lab tests.

These results suggest that IBT's vaccine could prevent death from Ebola infection if administered to wild populations. Non-infectious virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines like IBT's may be applied more broadly in the future to protect a variety of endangered animals from an arsenal of viral diseases.

In addition to IBT, the published research was supported by contributions from the University of Louisiana Lafayette, the US Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, and the University of Cambridge. The work was sponsored in part by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.

  • as I've said " ALL " along .... since mid summer .... " BEFORE " eBola was even NEWS ....TREND put out Agenus Inc. license agreement with Integrated BioTherapeutics Inc on eBola .... TREND has had this out since mid summer " BEFORE " any eBola hit .... as this information had never been mentioned before .... so it shows it's " STILL " in play

    Atlanta, GA : 10/20/2014.

AgenusInc(NASDAQ:AGEN) is a Massachusetts-based biopharmaceutical company that develops immune-oncology candidates. The company’s products include checkpoint modulators, adjuvants, and heat shock protein vaccines. On Oct. 10th, Agenus filed a registration statement that covered the offering of up to $150 million of common stock, warrants, debt securities and units, and preferred stock.
Agenus may soon see its value rise due to its role in the fight against Ebola, which has captured the attention of the United States public ever since a Dallas man was afflicted with the disease. In 2011, the company entered a license agreement with Integrated BioTherapeutics Inc. through which its PS-21 Stimulon adjuvant would be used in the development of a vaccine for Ebola. Testing for Ebola vaccines will notably be expedited due to the government’s sense of urgency.

  • Bernie Sanders ??

    Bernie Sanders ??

An elderly man calling himself a progressive socialist accosted a group of about two dozen conservative students who were protesting outside a building where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was speaking. He then said he had Ebola and tried to lick the students.

The strange episode happened on Thursday at Oakland University, a public school in the endless suburbs of Detroit, Mich., reports Campus Reform.

Clinton was on campus stumping on behalf of a couple of Democrats: Former U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer, who is running for governor, and U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, who is running for a Senate seat.

Campus police and the Secret Service forced the conservative protesters to an area across a street and well away from the crowd waiting to get into the event.

The would-be licker who claimed to have Ebola is Larry Mitchell of the St. Clair Shores Democratic Club, according to Campus Reform.

The students represented the College Republicans, Students for Life and Young Americans for Liberty.

The action in the rather long (and basically awful) video below starts at around the 2:30 mark when Mitchell, 63, can be heard saying, “I just came from Texas. I have Ebola and now I’m going to give it to you.”

Protesters say Mitchell then licked his hand and attempted to wipe spittle on them. ”Without a public health system, we are going to have the spread of Ebola,” Mitchell also said. “Libertarians don’t want a public health system, so you’re a fascist.”

Campus Reform later interviewed Mitchell. He said he doesn’t think he has contracted Ebola. He did double down on his criticism of libertarians, though.

“Libertarians are a bunch of Republicans who just want to smoke pot and get laid,” he said. “They don’t even count for much as far as I’m concerned with because they’re not Americans. They don’t believe in America. They believe in themselves.”

Mitchell also called the protesters “bullies” and noted that he “isn’t a big fan of Hillary.” He described her as a “corporatist.”

He said he had come to the Oakland University event to support Schauer and Peters.

After his stunt, he said, he went back and stood in line to get into the Clinton rally.

One of the students involved in the fracas, David Rowe, said Mitchell grabbed his neck and actually licked his hand. Rowe has since filed charges with campus police.

  • Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has threatened the West with his country’s 5,000 nuclear warheads.

Putin has raised the specter of nuclear war for the third time in the past two months as he and Western countries such as the United States clash over the Ukraine conflict, which has been bringing to light other deep-seated animosity.

Putin made his latest comments while en route to the annual Asia-Europe Meeting in Milan, a summit of 50 nations.

“We hope that our partners will realize the recklessness of attempts to blackmail Russia, and will remember the risks that a spat between major nuclear powers means for strategic stability,” Putin told Serbian newspaper Politika.
“He’s again threatened the West with nuclear weapons,” John Besemeres, a Russia expert at the ANU, told the Sydney Morning Herald. “It seems like a mastubatory fantasy he can’t go without.”

The comments came as New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key revealed he was bantering with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev earlier this year when the latter brought up the issue of nuclear war.

“So we’re having this joke exchange and one point I said to him: ‘How long would it take a missile to get out from Moscow to NZ?’” Key recalled.

Medvedev briefly consulted an aide before turning back to the NZ leader. Key said: “He said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll let you know before it happens.’”

And Putin has referenced the warheads two other times recently. In mid-August he told members of Russia’s Duma that he soon planned to “surprise the West with our new developments in offensive nuclear weapons about which we do not talk yet.”

And in September he told a group of youth: “I want to remind you that Russia is one of the leading nuclear powers … It’s best not to mess with us.”

Besemeres, the Russian expert, said that “Putin’s Russia is heading towards a police state internally and a rogue state externally. It’s a very worrying combination.”
Andrew O’Neil, a professor of international relations at Griffith University with insight into Russian nuclear policy, said that there’s one key area in Australia on Russia’s target list–the United States-Australian joint facilities that monitor satellites that fly over eastern Russia.

Dr. Helen Caldicott, an Australian physician who founded the International Physicians against Nuclear War, recently told reporters in Washington, D.C. that a war between Russia and the U.S. would automatically include nuclear weapons. “There is no way a war between the United States and Russia could start and not go nuclear,” she said.

“The United States and Russia have enormous stockpiles of these weapons. Together they have 94 percent of all the 16,300 nuclear weapons in the world.”

“We are in a very fallible, very dangerous situation operated by mere mortals,” she warned. “The nuclear weapons, are sitting there, thousands of them. They are ready to be used.”

Russia surpassed the United States for the first time in number of nuclear warheads that are deployed, according to a recent report from the State Department.

Russia now has 1,643 warheads deployed on intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles and heavy bombers. The United States has 1,642, said the fact sheet, reported the Washington Times.

“The warhead count for the Russians, based the Sept. 1 report required under the 2010 New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), shows an increase of 131 warheads since the last declaration on March 1,” it said.“The U.S. reported a warhead increase of 57 during the same period. It is not clear why the warhead numbers increased.”

Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, ranking Republican on the Senate Committee on Armed Services, wrote in an op-ed in Foreign Policy in reaction to the news that Russian deception in negotiating an arms reduction treaty while building up nuclear arms “poses a direct threat to the United States.”

He said that Russia violated a previous treaty while negotiating the most recent treaty, the START, with the Obama administration. “The White House was at best nave to Russian duplicity; at worst it was complicit,” he said.

Mark Schneider, a former Pentagon strategic weapons specialist, said that the build up confirmed vows by Russian officials to increase their deployed warheads.

“While so little information is released under New START that there is no way to say for sure, the Russian increases appears to reflect the arming of the two new Borey class ballistic missile submarines,” Schneider said.

“All U.S. numbers have declined since New START entry into force. The fact that this is happening reflects the ineffectiveness of the Obama administration’s approach to New START.”

Maxim Reiterates Buy On Agenus As Paradigm Shift Is Taking Hold In Immune-Based Therapeutics

In a research report issued today, Maxim Group analyst Jason Kolbert reiterated a Buy rating on Agenus (NASDAQ:AGEN) with a $9 price target, which represents a potential upside of 225% from where the stock is currently trading.

The following bullets contain some highlights from the report:

We see a paradigm shift taking hold in immune-based therapeutics and believe that Agenus is ideally positioned to create value in this emerging field. Evidence among the other companies we are following, such as Inovio (INO), Immunocellular (IMUC), and Oncosec (ONCS) is building around the utility of immunotherapy.
Early clinical data should raise interest in Agenus’ checkpoint inhibitor programs. Agenus’ products include heat shock proteins, an adjuvent (to magnify the immune response), and a group of checkpoint modulators, including GITR and OX40 agonists, and antagonists of TIM-3, LAG-3, PD-1, and CTLA-4.
As science advances, new development partnerships could be announced as early as next year. These would be in addition to the April 2014 collaboration with Merck (MRK) covering use of Agenus’ technology to generate new antibodies against Merck’s targets. Milestone payments from the collaboration are expected.
Data from GSK’s phase III trial using Agenus QS21 for shingles is expected within six months and, in July, Glaxo (GSK) filed for approval for a malaria vaccine (+QS21). QS21 generated a milestone payment and sets up future royalties.

  • Russell Brand threatened with arrest after filming outside Fox News headquarters

Russell Brand is at it again. In the latest post on The Trews video channel the comedian-turned-political campaigner unsuccessfully attempts to film outside the Fox News headquarters in New York before being threatened with arrest.

While trying to film, Brand is told to leave by a security official who comes out onto the pavement and asks him: “Do you want to get arrested?”

Scroll down to watch the video

Prior to the confrontation, Mr Brand had begun explaining why he and his camera crew were there.

“Here we are at Fox’s headquarters, all the greats are here - Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity - all the people who refuse to have us on the show.

“Sean Hannity, who booked us and then cancelled us. So we are going to do a Trew special from here, in the heart of the establishment.

As Brand starts warming to his theme, the filming is interrupted by security guards who request that the comedian and his cameraman remove themselves from outside the building.

The guard claims, gesturing at the pavement, “You can’t film here, this is private property.”

When Mr Brand questions him, asking who owns the building, the guard responds: “It doesn’t matter, do you want to get arrested?”

Later he enters the lobby of the building, filmed from outside, only to be told by an off-screen employee: “You can’t stay on the property and film anything.”

Brand then asks the incredulous security officials for a tour, saying: “I would love a tour.”

He continues: “Can I come up, have a look around, maybe have a look at the studio, touch some stuff, meet some people from The Sean Hannity Show?”

Unsurprisingly, he is not invited up.

He ends the programme by condemning Fox News’ as a “difficult organisation to work with,” adding: “It is very difficult to have true freedom.”

“I think if we were doing proper covert filming we could have got further,” he said from the back of a car later.

His stunt comes as Mr Brand’s non-voting views were recently criticised by Sex Pistol’s frontman John Lydon, who called them “the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard”.

Mr Brand claimed there had been a misunderstanding, despite writing in the New Statesman last year: “I will never vote and I don’t think you should, either.”

    EVERYBODY knows my view .

  • Vladimir Putin during the 10 ASEM Summit with 50 Heads Of State From Europe And Asia on October 17, 2014 in Milan, Italy.
Putin partied all night with Italy's disgraced former prime minister.
Putin started off his Italian trip by arriving eight hours late to Thursday's peace talks with European leaders.
Due to his tardiness, he stood up German Chancellor Angela Merkel, with whom he was scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. local time.
When the Russian leader and Merkel finally met around MIDNIGHT — Putin reportedly strolled in “nonchalantly” with his jacket "SLUNG OVER HIS SHOULDER" — the talks, which lasted until after 1 a.m. local time, didn’t go so well.
