Platytale, have you used the product? Have you flown any United flights recently? Last week I sat in EWR waiting for yet another delayed flight home. The plane was very old and dirty. The flight attendants were not very friendly. I'm booking more flights on Southwest as United has really jacked up their fares in recent months (at least on the routes I'm flying).

  • United finished 12th out of 15 airlines, with 3 regionals taking the last 3 slots. Way to go, Jeff!

  • Jeff, your airline is absolutely INSANE. How can you go from 200 flights down to less than 70? CLE has lost over 15,000 seats PER DAY and now the business community is scrambling to compensate - and from the experience I've had the past couple of weeks, it's not possible in many cases. And then you hold all those leases at CLE which holds the city hostage if they want to court other carriers.
You have an average airline, Jeff. Trouble is, you started with a GREAT airline.

CLE hub not looking so bad...

CLE is actually a large metropolitan area - larger than almost all of the cities around it. It can support a hub, IF a quality carrier were to establish one there. UAL was charging INSANE fares for flights originating in CLE. $750 to BOS? I don't think so. $600 to MKE? Nuts. $850 to GSP? Insane. That's why they're packing up and leaving. Oh, and possibly because Jeff is not the caliber of CEO that, say, Herb Kelleher or Gordon Bethune were?

  • 22,500 flights cancelled so far this year, mostly because of issues at ORD and EWR. That CLE hub ain't lookin' as bad, is it? As I recall, we only had ONE bad weather day, and rank as one of the top major airports for on-time departures and landings. Oh, never mind, LUV is looking at taking over the D Concourse. Hey, Jeff, don't let the door hit you on the #$%$ OK?

  • What more is there to say? Continental was GREAT when Gordie was at the helm. Now we endure the piece of $h|t known as United Air Lines. I am SO happy they are moving out of CLE. Jeffrey - you went from 200 down to 70 flights ... why stop there? Just pull ALL of them out and let some REAL air lines like Southwest and Jet Blue come in and replace you ... at less than HALF the price, too!

LUV is rumored to be looking at taking over Concourse D at CLE. That would be fantastic. Boot UAL's #$%$ all the way back to Chicago. Goodbye to all of their $800 commuter fares, too!
Many of us were loyal to Continental, and we were taken care of while they were in CLE. Once UAL merged with them, it all went into the $h|tter. Can't wait for UAL to go...

    United Shutting Down Cleveland

Jeff Smisek has created an OK airline. Trouble is, he started with a great one. I enjoyed over a decade of fantastic service, convenient flights, and remarkably full planes under Gordon Bethune's tenure with Continental. To read Jeff's letter, you'd swear the CLE hub was bleeding cash forever and ever. That is not true. It's amazing the accounting games one can play to shape things the way one wants to have them. Jeff just did not want to have a hub here. Period. Now United will hold CLE hostage by keeping all of the C gates and not utilizing them. D gates will be shut down, but they are designed for commuter flights, making them useless for Southwest, Jet Blue, etc.
I travel for a living, and can tell you the nightmares that ORD (often results in delays), EWR (everyone waits relentlessly) and IAH (I'm always holding) represent. If Clevelanders were smart, they would do everything possible to drive United out of Cleveland for good, and court LUV or JBLU to take their place. I wish we had the equivalent of the LUV operation in MDW - I would never fly anyone else.
