Just read the PR on Jet Blue customer service using NUAN/Nina to be the recognition behind their online customer experience app. This is going to be a huge market for NUAN. I love my SIRI, everyday finding new ways to use it. To calculate my gas mileage, I used to bring up my calculator after filling the tank, then dividing miles driven by gallons. Pain in the #$%$ Now I just ask SIRI " 342 divided by 17.3" and get the answer. Call centers are all going to be using NUAN very soon.
Probably why APPLE didn't buy NUAN - though it could be a big mistake. SIRI could almost be considered a new OS. If APPLE bought NUAN and developed it faster and better than anyone else, it could be powering not only customer service apps, but appliances, thermostats, bank loans, you name it. I wish NUAN would develop an app that could answer my mother-in-laws calls and answer her questions, only transfer to me if NINA couldn't... or if the Patriots were not on TV.
legalized theft. And what makes it more ironic is if he agreed to $0 dollars in pay, he make more on his millions of stock he owns.
I think you're right. When Ricci bought that personal assistant company, Cook decided to through him overboard. But Siri revenue wasn't ever very much anyway (never reported, but probably given away for free). And there's always that IC connection between the two companies. Love to hear an explanation.
The only plausible explanation is that the institutional investors are selling and maybe short interest is increasing. They probably think this is going to turn nasty - Ricci fighting off IC and taking the ship down with him. They also figure that Ricci is focused on this fight and neglecting business. Whatever the cause for this downturn, the people with the money don't see it turning out well.
"Hundreds of WP partners"? I don't think so. There were only a few that WP distributed the shares to and I believe they were also board members of NUAN. I guess to reward them for towing the line for Ricci. Thievery all the way around.
Wow, it just occurred to me that if anyone or company intended to buy NUAN wouldn't this action by the Board signal that it better get moving before the 29th?
I don't think Janet is privy to what CI, Ricci and Cook are conversing. Just bad timing on her side... maybe had to pay for one of her kids college.
Great find. Looks like they purchased them more for their language translation capabilities:
"...has developed a number of cross-lingual communication tools, including Jibbigo, which it says is the world’s first speech-to-speech translator on a phone that runs online or offline."
Wonder who MT uses for speech reco, NUAN or their own, home grown app. if home grown, you've got to wonder how they can get around all the patents NUAN has. A real head scratcher.
At some point (god its taken forever) they need to make revenue, but what about the patents? Ricci's strategy, it seems to me, was to grab a lock on the patents, so as to prevent others from using voice as an input. When, or can he ever play that card?
Buying because it has great growth potential and, remember, it once went private at a premium price (Carlyle Group if I remember) and is an acquisition target.
I remember an interview I read with the head of the Italian Mafia years ago from his prison cell. The interviewer asked him if he had his life to live over again would he choose the same path. He said no, that he has learned that there are plenty of ways to steal lots of money legitimately. CEOs and their boards is one such avenue. Political office is another. Remember the insider trading scandal last year, when senators and congressmen were trading stocks on confidential information they learned in committee hearings? There was nothing illegal about it. I'm sure Ricci is not losing any sleep over his legalized theft.
he's saying who the hell knows what will happen. It's in the hands of the big boys and we're just in for the ride. "What a great Country".
Yeah, just read the report and what it essentially says is that voice commands should be left to core functions like turning on the windshield wipers or changing the temp on the climate control, and shouldn't be used for sending text messages or emails. People know that already... don't use your cellphone for social media while driving, but I'm afraid NUAN is going to take a hit anyway. What they also say is that using either a hands free or regular cell results in the same amount of distraction. They don't comment on whether it's safer to have one hand on the wheel or two. Car companies and NUAN are going to have to get the PR spinners out on this one.
swings from $19. As if he knows that the stock is going to change dramatically and wants to insure he's covered either way? Beyond my pay grade, as useless says. Maybe he just wants to put a strangle hold on NUAN? Maybe positioning himself to dictate which way his turns? I dunno know.
