Well, sorry to say it but it would appear you have been correct all along. I've lost some money in this and have only myself to blame for not researching thoroughly first. It's not the end of the world but I hope someone pays dearly for it. Karma!
I'm from NZ but live in the US. I go "home" regularly and in fact just got back on Sunday....still feeling the effects. NZ has many beautiful places. The Marlborough Sounds would be an awesome place to live as would be the Bay of Islands the Coromandel Penninsula, and Queenstown. There are many others too. Although you cannot beat the raw beauty of Fiordland I doubt you'd want to live there....it's rugged, raw and very very wet with Milford Sound having one of the heaviest annual rainfalls in the world.
I think you are referring to Fiordland? It is actually in the South West of the South Island. Then again, perhaps you are referring to the Marlborough Sounds which are at the top or North of the South Island.
