It is really much worse than many. I could have bought GG in 2007 around 30. Now it is 19ish. 35% loss. I bought U.S. gold in 2007. My $6k investment is now $598. Then add in the Mineral Andres buyout. Those shareholders have suffered almost the same fate of a -80% loss. I think an -89% loss in equity is a epic failure.
AZO has also been a a big expansion mode. They opened up 37 more stores in the U.S. They now have 5042 U.S. stores. To give you an idea how many stores this is ......Walmart has around 5100 stores. Right now there are 2 O'Reily's, 2 Advanced Auto parts, and 1 AutoZone within 20 minutes of my house. Just like in mid-2000s when there were 5 office stores within 20 minutes of my house (Office Depot, Office Max, Staples).
Do I really need 5 autoparts stores in such a close proximity? Time will tell.
