Saying it would be "a perfect fit," the investment bank notes CP's holdings "end where KSU's begins." A merger "would transform CP from a Canadian and US Midwestern railroad into a truly North American carrier with the addition of a US North-South line running...into Mexico and port access in Vancouver, Montreal, the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico." Despite "limited track overlap," RBC says there's potential "meaningful" cost savings for a deal--and the timing could be right considering the 24% stock slump KSU has seen this year after a dour 4Q report. It's down slightly today while CP falls 0.8% like the broader market.
