Nice to see all the naysayers, stock is up

Yeah the yield is insanely good. Stock Analysts such as flippant Jim Cramer were pish poshing the 5% yield saying Gamestop not worth risk when yield is "only" 5%.

You simply can not find 5% or better dividend yield in the retail sector. Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, JCP, Macy's all either don't provide a dividend of any kind or have significantly lower yield.

The Yield + Gamestop's ability to churn out a ton of profit cash e ery quarter to protect the dividend is reason enough to be long the stock.

    AMZN & NFLX Got Downgraded!

NFLX problem is cord cutting as I just did. I dumped my DVD subscription since streaming is the only thing I have been doing lately. That and competition is catching up quickly.

I ha e never invested in AmaCON before. But, if AmaCON drops enough....perhaps.

Some people love paying MORE for their games

    by varchild2010 Feb 5, 2016 9:38 AM

I just did a Search on Craigslist. A grand total of ZERO copies of the game where I live. Nothing available.... Search results ZILCH.

But, hey!!! You don't hae to worry about fees so buying via Craigslist is so much FUN!!!

Especially when you can not even find a copy of what you want over and over again.

Right.... So.ehow its better to NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE GAME versus It's available at Gamestop and for less than shopping online at AmaCON.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • Final Fantasy Explorers used at Gamestop is $34.19.
    AmaCON is $35 + shipping.

Even with the Shipping Credit Fee, you are better off with Gamestop.

Craigslist is a crapshoot. There is no guarantee you will even find a copy near where you live. Thus, you have to factor in FUEL costs + Miles on your car. Hey, I drive a nice car that takes the Super Premium fuel...So, yes fuel costs have dropped, but if it is 1 extra gallon of fuel there plus 1 gallon more back to shop Craigslist, that currently approximately means an increase of $3.60 to the cost of the game.

So, AmaCON or Craigslist Crapshoot....Take your pick... You will consistently pay more for games not less.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

Cost of fuel far more to buy from CRAIGSLIST. So, don't make me laugh. You typically have to drive to whole 'nother city to get what you want......That's added fuel cost and miles on yoir vwhicle there and back to consider EVEN IF your phony claims that you can do better with Craigslist ALL of the time are true.

Can't even tell the quality of what you are getting. Even if there is a photo to look at, its never better than Gamestop.....And if you seek to buy used Consoles this way, you won't get any option to buy protection for the system as you get with Gamestop.

$3.99 is just enough not more than to ship a game.....Unless you still use the Pony Express?

Gamestop sells Fibal Fantasy Explorers used for $34.19. That is cheaper than your $35 quote.

The shipping fee credit business is irrelevant. You won't be charged Shipping by picking a game up at Gamestop, because there is no sitting around for a week or 2 waiting for your game to ship.

I was referring to the Sell value. Gamestop has far better deals on several games selling to them instead of AmaCON. Final Fantasy Explorers is 1 example.

You math fails to make sense. Shipping Credit Fees just go towards cost of shipping. You can not claim $28 as the price. It is $35 your original figure.

Even with shipping credits, you are still better off with Gamestop.

Amazon offers less for Trade-ins not more

I hear AMAZON is looking to put up hundreds of stores throughout shopping malls that sell Physical Books. I thought DIGITAL DOWNLOADING was supposed to destroy physical books? Now the makers of Kindle, the first digital download E-READER wants to sell physical books.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • arp590 made the bizzare claim Amazon offers 60% off original price in trade-ins. First of all, Amazon uses "UP TO" language that I don't understand. Up To????? You can't just quote me a price?

Second there are brand new video game titles where Amazon is offering much less than 60 % and with Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS) Gamestop is offering $22 while Amazon offers $20.48. Gamestop has the better deal.

I didn't see any refunding from Amazon for the cost to ship the video game to Amazon, or how long it typically takes to get your money.

Simply put, trading in games to Amazon is no guarantee you'll do better than Gamestop. It took q0 seconds to find 1 example and there are many examples.

And what the heck is "UP TO" Amazon????

Outright lie. Amazon doesn't give you 60% original value for your video games. Final Fantasy Explorers is 50%. That game released a little over a week ago.

A number of titles Gamestop Trade Values above 50 %. With Amazon, you have to pay for shipping costs to ship them the game. Not sure how long it takes to get your money. Is the 60 percent you claim with or without Prime? Its a big cost to pay for Prime.

What isn't clear to me is if you can use your Best Buy points to renew your Gamer's Club subscription. Right now, with my points, I never have to pay 1 single cent for my subscription... I just use my points.

  • varchild2010 varchild2010 Feb 2, 2016 6:31 PM Flag

Hey I do but a game now and then from Best Buy, if I beleive they have the best deal....But, more often Gamestop has the better deal for the types of games I shop for which often are obscure or just very old.

  • varchild2010 varchild2010 Feb 2, 2016 6:29 PM Flag

I do not get any impression that you could buy all your video games at Best Buy and do better versus Gamestop. Gamestop appears very competitive here on pricing.

Gamestop always evaluates pricing and doesn't just let their competition eat them alive. They make sure they are competitive.

As a diversified video game shopper, which means I look for New games as well as games several years old, I really do not see myself switching to Best Buy. I just picked up Kingdom Hearts games....years old games....I'd probably not be able to even buy these games at Best Buy...Gamestop selection is vast on preowned and Best Buy is still in its infancy.

And it appears even if I could find Kingdom Hearts (DS), at Best Buy.... I'd be paying more even with the Gamer's Club card.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • This probably not a super thorough analysis since I do not have a Best Buy Gamer's Club membership.

Here are the facts I do have to compare the two:

    1) Best Buy offers 20% off new games:
    - Issues A) You have to pay $30 for a 2 year subscription (Gamestop is $15 for 1 year with Game Informer Magazine Subscription).
    B) Best Buy sells NBA 2K 16 retail proce $60, or $48 after 20% discount applied.
Gamestop sells NBA 2K 16 for $40, no membership card required, due to ongoing Sale.

Given the Tax Refun Sales at Gamestop the following New Games are Cheaper to buy at Gamestop:

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (WII U)
The Crew Wild Run Edition (PS4)
    Rainbow Six: Siege (PS4)
    Fallout 4 (PS4)
Bloodborne with The Old Hunter expansion
    Fifa 16 Deluxe Edition

.....There are 196 pages so you get the idea...

Buying a game WITH the 20% discount at Best Buy and you may in fact be paying MORE L, not LESS.

    2) Best Buy offers $10 off pre-owned games.
Issues - Gamestop owns far far more Preowned games than Best Buy to choose from.
    - Gamestop's Powerup Rewards program gives you $5 off recent preowned titles, a whole lot more for older preowned titles.

Halo 4 at Gamestop is $4.49. Best Buy would be $4.99 after discount or 50 cents MORE expensive.

Gamestop beats Best Buy on older Preowned Titles even if only by a little.

    3) Reward Certificates: I have no idea how many points or how they are handled in Best Buy's Program. But, they promise no deals on obtaining these. You have to have the points.

Gamestop has currently 4 coupons you can redeem regardless of your points status. Buy 2 Get 1 Free Preowned video game, $20 off Preowned or refurbished XBOX ONE KINECT, $15 off Hyper X Cloud Headset, $10 extra trade credit on any PS4 Dualshock 4 Controller.

So, bottom line is that in some areas Best Buy is better, in some areas Gamestop is superior.

Not to mention, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower, and one.other Nintendo WII game all were exclusive games only purchaseable at Gamestop.

Preowned video game selection at Gamestop far exceeds the selection at Best Buy. So at Best Buy, you start with FULL PRICE and then take a discount.

I haven't had Best Buy membership in a few years, but there wasn't any kind of guaranteed 20% discount on new games....Nor was this in their Holiday sales ads. So, I have to see this to believe it.

It is hilarious. I once challenged someone to prove to me that you can save enough money buying anything, groceries not just video games for example, through Amazon Prime.... That person absolutely couldn't.

Amazon Prime.offering Irish Spring Soap at a more expensive price than CVS pharmacy....The list went on and on. Just because Amazon says you are getting something 10 or 20% less .....doean't mean the price you are paying is better than their competitors.

At the time I challenged someone to come up with just a break even amount... Amazon Prime was $80.....Such that you made good on your $80 fee, there was no way....The savings of any kind was so miniscule, you would have to make ridiculous bulk purchases monthly to just break even.....considering that I could point out Retail store prices every bit as competitive as Amazon and may cases superior.

Gamestop has Sale prices as well offering games $10 to $20 less than initial release price auch as with Fallout 4 recently. I am looking on my screen at AMAZON Pricing with Amazon Prime subscription and the game is $52, significantly more expensive than a recent sales Ad I received from Gamestop in the mail.

On top of the guaranteed money off games for being a Powerup Rewards member, you can exchange your points you accumulate for certificates for even more money off games. Highly doubt your mathematics skills factored any of this into your lopsided equation.
