  • “We remain committed to Asterias and to building shareholder value with its industry leading technologies and with prudent financial management,” said Michael D. West, Asterias’ new Chief Executive Officer. “We also welcome our new shareholders who will receive Asterias Series A common stock when Geron Corporation completes its distribution of those shares to its stockholders. Asterias’ management is continuing to evaluate the opportunities for Asterias’ stem cell assets in order to select the best paths for the advancement of its key product programs, including paths that can be followed with Asterias’ current financial assets and those that would be open to us if Asterias were to obtain the funding it is seeking in the form of research grants, cooperative development arrangements, and new equity capital,” Dr. West concluded.

I would expect Emisphere management has a sales estimate. It is just that, an estimate or a best guess based on their studies, extensive research (I hope) and industry experience. The CEO stated in the CC they are working on production readiness issues such as consistencies with product manufacturing, quality control.. at this stage of a product launch you have your manufacturing site(s) tooled for a specific estimated quantity with a growth plan in production mapped out if needed. I would guess the estimate must be in the 30M range in revenue per year ramping up to 50M or more. Mr. Rubino mentioned new product ideas and the possibility of an acquisition of a smaller carrier company. Exploring new product ideas is the right approach but they need a partner.

I guess Novo GLP-1 is the key longer term objective for holding this investment.

  • written in the recent Needham Healthcare Conference powerpoint a couple of times

if the hold is released or partially released and Asterias shares distributed; then partnership or buyout news is possible

GILD or INCY ? else Geron is on it's own and upside is greater/so is risk going forward

Overall, I agree with your thoughts on this topic. Most shareholders, including MHR, probably do not want a dilutive secondary. Why does the company wait until it's almost out of funds to try work a last minute deal ? This way of doing business does not provide you with a reasonable negotiating position to work out a good deal. Well, I think I know the answer..

Anyway, Mr. Rubino gives me the impression he cares about the shareholders and knows the business. We'll see. Funding from a partner like Novo or NVS is probably the best option to attain financing.

    MHR owns 63.7%

maybe the company is taken private; buyout remaining shareholders at a reasonable price ?

this ownership percentage puts a cap on share price
