    Nucor DRI operations

Why doesn't Nucor realize that they can buy DRI directly from CLF and save money on holding cost.?

  • An interesting article in 6/1/15 Barron's on "Nucor Steeled for gains of 25% or more" . They are going to be using more and more DRI along with Scrap metal for Steel manufacturing as adding DRI to Scap metal produces more bendable and higher quality steel.
They are buying IO from Vale and convert it into DRI at their Trinidad Plan since 2006.. They have another DRI plant in Louisiana which had equipment failure problems late last yea rbut went back online at the end of Q-1 ,15. This is where CLF should make a push for their DRI instead NUE bringing IO from Vale all the way to USA. This a great opportunity for LG to work with NUE and Convert their Pellets into DRI pellets at much much lower cost. GO LG !!

    Nucor and DRI Pellets....

Working with NUE and pushing CLF's US IO pellets for converting into DRI pellets which contains 97% Fe is a great opportunity for LG. to expand US IO Operations. Debt will take care of itself with higher revenue and much higher profit margins. WS needs to realize that CLF is in an expansion mode for the price to go up.

surf.. NUcor must have to use a lot more energy to convert Low Fe content Vale IO to DRI pellets which is 97% FE. in their Trinidad plant. They must be using Vale's IO in their new LA plant too. The article didn't specify that. My point is that CLF's 66%-67% Fe pellets will require much less cost and less energy to make DRI pellets and LG. should work with NUE on this as a high priority. Barrons' says that NUCOR's profits and margins are headed much higher in 2015 as they keep cutting cost and working hard to get Washington to protect the Industry from dumping steel.

The article is more about NUE and what they are doing to cut cost and improve quality of steel by making it superior with new technology of adding DRI pellets to Scrap metal in the manufacturing of steel. Steel prices have gone up a little to $455 a ton and Nucor's cost is coming down to $250 a ton from $400.

What I am saying is LG needs to establish(and mend) relations with NUE which Carraba destroyed(in his pursuit to sell more to China by ignoring Nucor business). It doesn't matter how much of their DRI business CLF can get but it can be start of more business with NUE in the future as CLF needs to expand its US IO where the most of the profit is for Cliffs.

  • The new MNGT is now in place for some 10 months and stock has kept going down from $16 in August 2014 to $5 now.. a loss of nearly 70% in spite of LG producing profits for the last 2 QTRs. In the name of getting the right price, he missed a boat of selling non-core assets. He needed to sell these assets as soon as he took control but its all now water over the damn and Shorts are still in a big control and whip this stock around to their liking and the MNGT is Mute and non-vocal. We need to act in terms of Weeks and Months and NOT Years for a turnaround as Investors' patience is dropping fast. I still think CLF will eventually come out on Top as they expand their US IO business , sell Coal mines and BL/Wabush Complex and reduce huge debt. They should also TRIM their IR Dept. as they never respond to investors and this may help cut cost a bit more.

bart.. regardless how CLF can ship IO pellets by rail or ship, to Nucor's LA and other plants, their cost iwould assume to be lower than to bring the low quality IO all the way from Brazil and use more energy to convert into the DRI pellets. NUCOR got P**sed off when Carraba was CEO who didn't care about NUE's business and was more interested in selling all that bloody BL and Wabush mines IO to China. It will take some time for LG to mend the fences and build a realtionship with Nucor. I think it will be a cost advantage to Nucor to go with CLF that with Vale
    .

we have to wait now some 7 weeks for Q-2 earnings out.... till then the stock will be whiplashed around by Shorts. When LG comes out with goo0 earnings report ,he needs to go to MEDIA
immediately and sing song about how he is turning around CLF and reducing debt. He failed to capitalize on this twice when Q-4 and Q-1 earnings came out.

nad...I am holding onto my large number of shares and playing with 1000 shares and Put and Call Options.. I know the stock will come back.. Thats not the problem but the frustration is that CLF is Not providing any news or info like Tesla , Csco, GM and other CEO get in front of Media and describe and defend their going forward strategy .

Why is this stock dropping daily since its great earnings report, and Insiders are selling big. LOCO is down some 27% plus since the Earnings( E and sales were great) come out in last 2 weeks from $29 to under $21. Anyone has any info that can justify such a big drop while markets and CMG are going up. How low it may go?

That is an insane speculation..surf. No CEO likes to see its stock down so low deliberately. If he has good news spell it out.

ca ..CLF is the biggest Io company in USA and supplies a commodity to a key Steel industry. TSLA is a very small auto company and still always in the spotlight because its CEO Munk choses to do so. LG can do the same especially when he beats the earnings est. by a landslide and NOTHING happens . CLF needs Visibllity BADLY and CEO/CFO can provide it or Shorts keep continue to damaging its price. and High debt dont help either.

these MNGT people are being paid huge by shareholders and you defending them? what would you like to see ...stock going down to $3. They had now plenty of time. and they DO have some means to stop Shorts like buybacks but LG wont do it.. Is he is waiting for something????????

imagine..I agree totally . Its LG's ball and run with it. IO prices are spiking up, he has $200 mil for buyback at this low low price and expedite the sale of coal mines and further cut all costs even more .Also make a huge cut in IR dept. and bring all this out to the MEDIA to bury the Shorts.

This is a dead company burried under debt and Shorts know it and play to their advantage . LG needs to come out swinging at this low low price and Buyback some 20 mil to 30 mil shares, expedite the sale of 2 Coal mines (Take $50mil or $100 mil less if he must) Cut debt and CapEx and SG&A expenses, expand US IO business , Go make deals for DRI pellets . Talk is cheap... . .time to act is Now is MUST. SH are very frustrated. waiting waiting and more waiting.

I think he is OK. He needs to capitalize on his good successes by being more vocal to MEDIA. He needs to share with Stock Holders whats the status of the sale of coal mines , BL/Wabush mines sale and debt reduction process and expanding US IO business and let the world know about all this.
