Can't see them ceasing operations when some experts feel they could be sitting on a gold mine of palladium.

Du Toit said before they sink more capital into expansion they want to drill off the Offset to get the big picture of its geology and size.
LDI’s mine life is five to six years based on current reserves, but du Toit said they’re comfortable with their reserves in the indicated and inferred categories going laterally as well as deeper.

“We have been actively seeking debt and equity investment opportunities in the mining sector and North American Palladium’s LDI mine met our criteria,” said Peter Gordon, Managing Partner of Brookfield Asset Management. “This advanced stage development project has high quality reserves, attractive mining attributes, proven mill operations and "significant exploration potential.”

“Believe it or not, there are only two mines on the planet that yield palladium first and foremost—it’s a by-product everywhere else. And one of those mines belongs to North American Palladium Ltd. (PAL). The Lac des Iles (LDI) site in Ontario, Canada, is a geological treasure trove.

Until the complete exploration of all property is done it's a waiting game. Believe the old management team was the real problem with PAL. Been a holder of PAL for awhile and will stay until the end. Will not make the same mistake as I did with CCK some years back.

As stated by the CEO................Du Toit said before they sink more capital into expansion they want to drill off the Offset to get the big picture of its geology and size. There are also some operational bugs to work out with the new shaft. “It’s common knowledge that capital is tight for 2014,” said du Toit. “We want to make sure that we unlock the advantages of the shaft properly, which get us onto an even keel for 2014 in the Offset Zone and we’ll tackle phase two with the right information and the right plan.”
Du Toit said all indications point to better material deeper down, at least for the next five years.
The company also wants to generate some revenue before it plunges deeper. Last summer, NAP closed a (US) $130-million term loan with Brookfield Capital Partners to complete the first phase of the mine expansion.
“We want to make sure we can service the loan and create (for ourselves) some breathing room. We really want to focus on really growing the volumes now that the shaft is in commissioning.”
LDI’s mine life is five to six years based on current reserves, but du Toit said they’re comfortable with their reserves in the indicated and inferred categories going laterally as well as deeper.
Du Toit said there’s considerable untapped potential on their 21,000-hectare property and he expects exploration activity at depth and on some outlying zones to continue for many years.
“We know there’s something there and once we get deeper into the Offset Zone we’ll probably intercept some of the adjoining orebodies, and then we’ll be able to form a better picture.”

Staying long believe the route the company is now taking good for shareholders in the long run.

Last one....Underground mining via ramp access of the Roby zone began in 2006 at a significantly lower rate, leaving the mill underutilized. The mine and mill were placed on care-and-maintenance in late 2008 in the wake of the global financial crisis.
The period of care-and-maintenance allowed NAP to concentrate its efforts on exploration at its Lac des Iles property. The Offset zone, discovered in 2001, was delineated and enlarged, for example. Then three new zones (Cowboy, Outlaw, and Sheriff) were discovered in close proximity to the Offset zone. With these exploration successes, the potential for expansion became a "reality".

A reality the new ceo had seen before taking the job.

One more......Accordingly, as an established PGM producer with a clearly defined strategy for growth, NAP is well positioned to convert exploration success into production and cash flow on an accelerated timeline.

I will take my chances with PAL.

The same COO who put the problems of PAL on the old management team. PAL not going anywhere and BAM knows it to. BAM sitting on a gold mine or should I say palladium mine.

“We have been actively seeking debt and equity investment opportunities in the mining sector and North American Palladium’s LDI mine met our criteria,” said Peter Gordon, Managing Partner of Brookfield Asset Management. “This advanced stage development project has high quality reserves, attractive mining attributes, proven mill operations and significant exploration potential.”

BTW...going belly up I believe not in the cards for PAL..

North American Palladium Ltd (USA) (NYSEMKT:PAL) climbed higher after a Seeking Alpha blog post suggested investors that “Q4 will either be the first profitable quarter for PAL in a long time; or it will come very close to being profitable. The combination of cyclical and secular growth in the palladium market should be very positive for PAL.”
According to the article, “PAL stated in its Q3 2014 earnings report, “a major recent agreement at very attractive rates was agreed to in the third quarter with Caterpillar Finance.” This sounded like at least some purchases would be made soon without PAL having to go to find extra monies from anywhere but Caterpillar Finance. This is one more encouraging sign that PAL has finally turned the corner.”

Herb Daniher, spokesperson for the Steelworkers Union representing about 300 employees at the site, says the underground shaft brings stability for workers.
“So certainly, they have enough defined resources to go until 2019, but … there's potential here to continue to operate this, if all the stars align for an extended period, well beyond that,” Daniher said.

The leadership of nearby Gull Bay First Nation has said there is potential from the mine for jobs and business opportunities for the community.
