To fight NestLabs-Google for market share, TKOI needs to quickly add "wearable technology" to its motion-sensing based thermostat system. Also, to install NestLabs thermostats to 100 rooms, material cost is about $20k to the hotel owners. cheaper to start, newer technology and low-to-none maintenance cost.
It comes down to this: who and how to control the in-room thermostat:
TKOI uses multiple motion sensors and NestLabs uses WiFi and Internet. In long term, the winner could be a hybrid version of the two (motion-sensing plus customer wearable device). Google buy TKOI would be a good move for all.
