    I am out of ttwo

I think NTDOY has enormous value. One day it will be unlocked. But there isn't pressure on management and they seem ok with sticking to their course, which includes making wonderful beloved games. I don't own it.

I am out of TTWO because at some point, anxiety will build about next year's lineup and revenue prospects, and I think there are severe macro economic issues that the world has to deal with, and thus the recent volatility was a dress rehearsal. So, with little upside and plenty of risk, I exited the stock.

I am not arguing that TTWO isn't in fact diversified; rather, that investors would perceive the situation anxiously. They upped guidance for the year mostly, it seems, on expectations of GTA next-gen performance. OK…what comes after that? Then there is share count and stock based comp; where is share count going?

I had a number of reasons. 1. I just think investors will start getting very anxious about future revenues in non-GTA years--because I'm nervous about it. 2. Last year, TTWO peaked on Aug 30 even though GTA showed epic results, reflecting future worries. 3. I saw the risk of a head & shoulders top going back to June. 4. Market has had a nice bounce.

It appears to me that we are making the lovely W pattern in the chart. The last 2 months of mid-term election year historically are the best period over the 4 yr Pres cycle for the stock market. I expect fund managers to be in major chase mode at that time. You could make a case that TTWO is forming a toppy head and shoulders, but is that really likely for one of the top 100 performers for a year? No, it isn't. Look for fund managers to start scrambling for winners.

how many spots in top 100 is GTA 5?

  • whasupwhasdown by whasupwhasdown Oct 22, 2014 12:35 AM Flag

R* has a lot of levers it can pull to squeeze up interest in GTA for ng, and it appears to me that they are locked & loaded: first person, heists, online play up to 30 players, new stuff to do and new killing tools, & a million gta bucks to spend. What am I leaving out? The damn game is going to look and play a lot better.

You know, players gonna up sooner or latter to nexgen and this is the best deal they gonna get for a long time. Did you see the PS4 box with GTA bundle? It looks awesome. Seriously, everybody's gonna wanna play this and play Online, its gonna be hard to be the only one of your friends not to have it.

For TTWO the margins should be eye-popping. Expect more detail about the GTA release not long after earnings on the 29th.

Finally, I think Zelnick et al are very aware of the 'what comes next' issue. While the stock might dip, I am betting right here and now that investors and gamers won't be let down excessively next year. Those who think the stock is doomed to fail post GTA will be in for a shock. I hope they go short.

I'd like to know what you guys like. I can tell you that I like general retailers like Kohls and Costco, I like Gamestop, I like TTWO obviously, BBRY, and KING interests me. I would prefer to have only companies that differentiate themselves in significant ways, like TTWO; I am not a commodities person.

Thank you very much for the insight. A recent WSJ article noted that the top games in mobile haven't seemed to change much, because the big companies dominate via marketing, just as in cereal it is hard to unseat Frosted Flakes. Right now, do I have it right that KING is selling at 1x sales ex cash? That's not bad. TTWO must be near that. So in the end it comes down to management: do we think the King team, after getting paid, is still motivated? I'm not sure. Maybe.
